Winning these runoffs is really nice, but it still doesn't take away the fact that the 2020 election was still a disappointing event for down ballot Dems.

We failed to take the Senate [outright] even though we were favored, and we lost a ton of amazing people in the House.

Yeah the Republicans did quite a bit better than the polls and conventional wisdom suggested. Certainly better with many different groups of voters and across much of the country than I (and probably many of you) would've liked.

Imagine telling someone two years ago that Democrats would gain control of the Senate while suffering double-digit losses in the House and winning the presidential tipping point by less than 1 percent

Temporarily changing my avatar and screen name to commemorate Ossoff crossing 50.0% of the counted vote. I did actually live in Metro Atlanta for a year when I was very young, and can attest to a certain Asian presence in the northern suburbs back then.

It seems like the Asian and Hispanic vote in the runoffs shifted pretty strongly D compared to the general, so I do wonder if the meme that these two blocs were going to shift R was a tad premature. Dems definitely made a huge targeted outreach, including in-person contact, to these blocs from what I've read this time. Depending on Ossoff's final margin, this swing along with the black swing /turnout could have been decisive.

The last 2 weeks of freedom in America. Enjoy it while it lasts, folks.

How did this post from Jan. 6, 2016 get bumped here?

Ugh. So the new precedent for Republicans is just trying to overturn the results of democratic elections because they didn't get what they wanted.

Anyways, Ossoff's lead is nearly 10K statewide thanks to another dump from DeKalb.

I for one welcome the Cortez-Sanders mandatory soy consumption act, now that the Senate will be controlled by comrades Karlmarxa Harris and Cuck Schumer.

Perdue, expectedly, seems to have overperformed the most in the counties with the most white college grads (Oconee, Cobb, Hall). Loeffler overperformed the most in the far NW corner (Chatt media market/MTG land) and the extremely old school interior SE parts of the state around Waycross. Maybe 7-8 years back this is where the counties were that had still had segregated proms.

Not this again.

Obviously stupid/annoying/dangerous but this seems rather weak & I assume we're looking at Ossoff having a relatively healthy lead?

Ossoff lead now 0.22%, just under Biden's 0.24%. It's getting closer and closer to move out of recount territory.

Does Georgia law prohibit recounts outside of 0.5%? Or does it just require something like Wisconsin where you have to pay out of pocket?

How is Perdue going to sue?  The only two lawyers still willing to file these crappy lawsuits said not to vote for him to begin with.

The year is 3000. Jon Ossoff leads by 100M votes.

CNN/AP/NYT project this race as both too close and too early to call.

My prediction that both Dems would win the runoffs was predicated on Latino and Asian voters turning out for Ossoff and Warnock. It's too early to say how much impact "Other Race" voters actually had, but I think it's safe to say they didn't help Perdue and Loeffler.

So in the end of everything the black radical socialist anti-police anti-military anti-imperialist christian guy won with a better margin than the more moderate bland democrat guy? In Georgia?

Interesting. If it were the opposite people would be saying that it shows how going to the left is horrible in swing states. Yet the leftist guy had the better performance.

He ran against an appointed, corrupt, race-baiting, out of touch opponent. Ossoff ran against an Georgia-born elected Senator whose cousin is a former Governor and member of Trump's Cabinet.

Okay but Warnock was supposed to be very unelectable based on his progressive stances. He’s clearly more to the side of the Bernie group, having more of an anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist background aligned to the anti-racism (reminds me of what MLK preached). Yet that regular narrative that it should be bad for the party in a swing state failed in practice Smiley

Good that democrats regained the senate but I’m especially happier for Warnock, more than for Ossoff.

Outside of 0.5%, only election officials (i.e., Raffensperger) are allowed to authorize recounts. Perdue can ask him to do so, but it's entirely up to him whether or not to do so, as opposed to a recount request within 0.5%, which would be automatic upon request.

I actually wrote a piece on segregated proms in HS for our school paper (circa 2004). Nothing of the sort existed in Northwest GA in my lifetime (probably in large part because of a lack of black residents), but the SE interior definitely still had plenty of them throughout the early 2000s. Places like Toombs and Montgomery were infamous for them.

How did CNN lose? The state they're headquartered in elected their first black and Jewish senators tonight and it was a defeat for Trumpism.

can we all appreciate the stupidity of Kemp appointing Loeffler for just a second?

And worth remembering it was because he thought that A.) It would benefit him B.) It would boost turn-out among 'moderate' women in the burbs. Worked well.
