The U.S. foreign policy continues to be completely untrustworthy. And it began way before the orange man.
Reagan hated the AMBT, but nonetheless stuck to it. Bush 43 pulled out of the AMBT.

The thing about the "NATO ally>communist insurgents" talking point is that, yes, the Kurds are pinkos or whatever to an extent that makes even me a little uncomfortable, but they're also 1. the closest thing to a democratic polity in the Middle East other than Israel and 2. the faction that fought and died to break the back of the territorial caliphate while Erdogan sat clucking his tongue and twiddling his thumbs until like the last year or two. Turkey, meanwhile, is an increasingly despotic country that should never have been allowed into NATO in the first place, and if NATO actually saw itself as the nucleus of a John McCain "concert of democracies" rather than a mere instrument of US hard power projection, it would give Erdogan a good thrashing and send him packing.

If the purpose of NATO is to check Soviet domination, then Turkey joining made sense.  The US has never really moved on from the alliances it formed in the Cold War.  Meanwhile the Turkey-Russia rivalry lives on, thus Russia signals they will try to support the Kurds if the US steps back.

There's nothing in it for America or Trump to save the Kurds. "Keeping your word" and "doing the right thing" aren't a part of Trump's political arithmetic.

And here I thought the purpose of the US military was to protect the US, not the Kurds.

And here I thought fighting ISIS helps to protect the US.

Our methods of fighting terrorists tend to create more.

This idiocy aill do so far more than isolationism.

Donald Trump Makes Up To $1 Million Per Year From Trump Towers Istanbul, Documents Reveal
Quote
In 2012, Donald Trump opened a twin tower structure in Turkey under the brand name Trump Towers Istanbul. The buildings were constructed and remain owned by a Turkish company, but Trump licensed his name to the project and continues to derive significant revenue from fees for the use if his name. In fact, according to Trump’s most recent financial disclosure filings, Trump earns somewhere between $100,001 and $1 million in licensing fees from Trump Towers Istanbul. The information was posted online by the watchdog group Citizens for Ethics and Responsibility in Washington (CREW) on the document archive site Box.

The financial disclosure forms for U.S. government officials, including Trump, require only that filers disclose a range of income earned from each source rather than specifying an exact figure.

As far back as 2017, as The Atlantic magazine reported, critics have said that Trump’s own financial interests in Turkey could influence his foreign policy positions to tip in Turkey’s favor. In fact, in 2017 when Erdogan muscled in a constitutional referendum that granted the country’s president — himself — nearly dictatorial powers, Trump called the Turkish leader “to congratulate him” on the referendum victory.

What Trump did today is despicable and I hope all true Republicans who live and breath Conservative Principles® in safe red states will get together and send a message to the Republican party (which we all know was a totally normal party until Trump came along) by voting third party or writing in the name of an equally corrupt Republican politician who isnt do brazen in public about it

No. 95+percent of republicans and conservatives will accept this, and ALL the many MANY such fu$!ups by Trump as either "Great news (but of course the liberal media...."), or alternatively see it as a completely acceptable price to pay to stop socialism and baby killing.

A series of tapes could come out tomorrow showing Trump with different non-white sex-trafficked women, all engaging with Trump sexually while wearing Hillary Clinton masks and while Trump calls them the worst and most hurtful racial slurs that exist.

When those tapes hits the air, you can comfortably bet your life's savings that 95%+ of Republicans will refuse to harshly criticize Trump "because abortion" and "because socialism".

This is ALWAYS the problem with 2 party systems.

Same way Bernie Democrats would vote/voted for Biden/Hilary, not because they like them, but because they dislike the other candidate more.

Not that I actually think they shouldn’t vote.

I know, but when you have 5 parties, for example (let's say 3 bigger and 2 smaller), you can actually choose who you agree with the most, not just the opposite of who you agree with the least like in the US.

I definitely think there is demand for a 3rd party if Democrats blow 2020 and don’t do much better in 2022. There seems to be a gap between the establishment left and those seeking a real alternative worth voting for.

Who that would be? Who knows. It could be a left-wing Bernieish party, a center-right Perot party or something like that.

Allies mean nothing to Trump unless he personally benefits from them, that can even be something as simple as flattering him in the most basic way possible. I'm guessing that in this instance Erdogan did that, offered dirt on a political opponent, or even just simply agreed to join the Legion of Doom that Trump is planning. Meanwhile, the Kurds fighting our enemies for us is not enough in comparison to all that.

Although Trump is probably leaving for personal and dictatorial benefit we have to leave at something. America is like a 5 year old kid asking for 5 more minutes with the Middle East.

Read his tweets again.

He never mentions the Kurds, or even Syria. The only group he namechecks is ISIS:
Quote
They must, with Europe and others, watch over the captured ISIS fighters and families.

He's probably warning Ergodan off messing with his Trump Towers Istanbul profits:

(Hey, does anyone remember that time when Republicans thought it was a massive scandal for the child of a high-ranking Executive Branch official to be in business in a foreign country their father was conducting diplomacy with?)

Just a reminder that every time Trump does something stupid, you can find an example of HRC proposing the exact opposite.
