I think if Biden is at the top and wants to be perceived as "moderate" he needs to double down on that and pick someone like Klobuchar or Duckworth. I think this would help push the suburbs into his direction even more and would minimize rural areas going further to the right.

I wonder how many progressives would vote for Biden only because of his VP. Surely this population can't be that large.

Too white.

He'd be better off with Kamala, or someone like Tammy Duckworth.

That's a ticket I would vote for twice.

She'd never get past the vetting process because of her ties to Assad.

I think she is gunning for it hard, as I explained in another post. The only question is if he would be willing to take her on. From his perspective...

Pros:

— Female
— Person of color
— Much younger
— Military experience
— Berniecrat credentials
— Respect across the political spectrum
— Solid political/public speaking/debating skills

Cons:

— Shady past on social issues, namely LGBT rights and abortion
— Very questionable foreign policy views, namely on Syria and Russia
— Praised by David Duke and Steve Bannon
— Hawaii Representative doesn’t really help in any battleground states
— Possible Hindu nationalist ties???

He could but it’s a bad idea. For someone who has a conservative past, choosing someone with a neofascist tendency isn’t a good idea.

Both of your buzzword labels are ridiculous. Biden has consistently been solidly at the liberal end of the spectrum throughout his career, even if that spectrum has shifted somewhat in recent years. And calling Gabbard “neofascist” is just outright ridiculous. Not sure whether it’s more or less ridiculous than Political Compass labeling her the most left-wing candidate in the race, but in any case I think that shows the horseshoe theory is alive and well.

Yes, but I don't think it's a good choice unless he really thinks all of her supporters will stay home and the others' supporters won't.

I can't wait for Mike Pence to raise these issues at the VP debate.

She’s literally half his age (she’ll be 39 on Inauguration Day, he’ll be 78).  There could be some jokes about that.

Why choose Gabbard when there are better choices, like Bill Kristol and Paul Wolfowitz.

She’s pretty clearly gunning for it, but I doubt he’d take someone with her baggage when there are safer options available. Though if he wins I could see her as Secretary of defence or DNI - or maybe the VA if Biden understandably wants to keep her away from foreign policy.

As attractive as Gabbard is, I wouldn't want to see that...

Serious answer: No. She is too polarizing and doesn't actually bring much to the ticket. Her surprising defensiveness of Biden could be used to his advantage regardless though. He could pose himself as being less hawkish than his reputation suggests since Gabbard came to his defense on his Iraq war vote.

If she keeps this up, she should get at least a cabinet department.  (Although you could have said the same thing about Chris Christie in 2016, so you never know)

Well, Biden is prone to poor decision making... so I guess anything is possible.

One of the best things he could do.

It would be a proper fig leaf from the DNC to Sanders voters for stealing the 2016 nomination.

I have very mixed feelings. My opinion Tulsi went up since the last debate and my opinion of Kamala went down. She certainly brings some assets such as ticket balance by age, race and gender. Overall, I doubt he chooses her for the second spot and bring her in an excellent position for 2024 or 2028. There might be too much differences on foreign policy. Joe Biden is an internationalist and traditionalist on foreign policy and defense, she's almost the opposite.

Out of all the presidential contenders, I would actually like a Biden/Buttigieg ticket. I really like to see a female running mate, but Mayor Pete impresses me that much that I think he would be a good vice president (also as training ground for the Oval Office).
