He's absolutely right on the former.

It’s astounding the difference in tone between national media stories written about Beto, and local coverage in the Iowa press. It’s giving me some distinct Obama circa-2007 vibes.

This is the only intelligent thing I’ve ever heard Beto say.

That makes 3 Democrats who have called out Netanyahu(the 3 being Beto, Sanders, and Buttigieg, BTW). Good for them.

Explain further for those of us not in Iowa  (which coverage is more positive, or what tone does local media strike, etc)?

Going to alienate the Jewish vote that way.

Pretty presumptuous of you to assume American Jews are gonna vote based on Netanyahu.

I've met more than my share of Liberal (Trump hating Jews) who also support Bibi. Not saying they'd vote Trump - because they won't - but they also might sit home if a candidate who has attacked Bibi and seems to be "anti-Israel" is the nominee.

Yeah and if he is supportive of Netanyahu or washy washy about him, he is going to alienate some part of the progressive base who cares a lot about foreign policy. Whatever position a candidate pick, he is going to alienate someone. So, they might as well say what they think is right.

If we're going to go off of people we've met. I live in Northern New Jersey. Most Jews, myself included, absolutely care about Israel, but that support doesn't necessarily translate to their leader. Most Jews I know don't particularly care for Netanyahu, of course most Jews (like in general) are Democrats. And the ones that do support Netanyahu are already Republicans. Really it's a litmus test that tells you more about one's American party than their support for Israel. So not too many Jews will even be blinking an eye at a Democratic candidate's criticism of Bibi.

Republican obsession with winning a plurality of Jewish votes is as embarrassing as the few Democrats obsessed with winning WV again.

Most Jews support Israel, not the racist demogogue currently serving as its Prime Minister.

I'd say they support the idea of Israel, but not what it's becoming.

I’m not in Iowa, I just check out local new sites and papers to see how they’re covering the campaigns. And they have nowhere near as negative coverage for O’Rourke as they’ve been running on cable news. From what I’ve seen, Buttigieg also didn’t get nearly as much buzz there as he’s been generating nationally either, but I think those will converge fairly soon to his benefit.

Again, it's really important for goyem to understand the distinction between Netanyahu and Israel, especially when trying to assess the issue's effect on Jewish-American voters.

I would have preferred Beto to say what he actually opposes (e.g. bulldozing Palestinian homes to make illegal settlements) in Israeli policy, rather than just call Netanyahu a racist, which is pretty meaningless.

I mean at least he's taking a stance at all. Speaking out in any way against Israel would've been political suicide a decade ago. I'm sure Beto isn't ignorant to the specific issues going on there, but calling Netanyahu out is a good start.

BRTD would be jealous, a teacher from my high school who is also involved in local government posted a picture on Facebook of Beto O'Rourke having breakfast with him.

Oh my gosh guys we mustn't lose the votes of literally 2% of the US population!

As a republican, Netanyahu is clearly a racist as are his policies but clearly he is our "one true ally" in the middle east and it is clearly forbidden to criticize him or his government. Even the left-wing media doesn't dare criticize him. Someone needs to speak up.
