The Hatch amendment said
"A right to abortion is not secured by this Constitution. The Congress and the several States shall have the concurrent power to restrict and prohibit abortions: Provided, That a law of a State which is more restrictive than a law of Congress shall govern."

Why tf have I never heard about this before?

Sure, it was 1982, but it's not like Hillary or Warren where they had no power when they held different views. As the TOP DEMOCRAT on Judiciary, Biden was pushing to overturn Roe.

Past votes are going to be an issue in this primary and it's perfectly fair to evaluate what a candidate did previously. Biden shouldn't be exempt from criticism especially when it comes to things like this.

Ginsberg has been dead for at least 6 months. What's to stop the media and the deep state from lying? If Trump points it out they will just gaslight him and call him a "conspiracy theorist".
This is a joke, right?

Funny how the bad guys always have to resort to conspiracy theories. It's almost as if to make people think the other side's antics are as bad as yours, you need to invent something crazy.

If Biden having experience is one of the key arguments made for supporting him, we have every right to criticize his past actions, to show that the quality of experience matters.

This is the only remotely good reason to hold this vote against Biden, although I personally think a lot of the time "experience" is a specious and usually nebulous rationale for supporting a candidate.

As someone whose views on abortion have changed a couple dozen times in the last 4 or 5 years, I’m not a big fan of holding this against him.

Agreed. People who believe Biden would not appoint pro-choice judges or revoke the Global Gag Rule are kidding themselves.

Former House leader Dick Gephardt and former Senate leader Harry Reid were also pro-life earlier in their congressional careers. A lot of Democratic leaders used to be against abortion but they changed for purely political reasons. It does reflect very poorly on their character I agree, but I don't think you have to worry about any of them reverting to their old positions.

Joe Biden is a catholic Dem; not sure why this comes as a major shock. I'm no fan of Biden due to his positions on healthcare, unions, trade, and wall street regulation but this isn't disqualifying and on another note, gives me a sad reminder that abortion is such a partisan issue.

That's really the dumbest internet right-wing hoax I've seen in a long time.

^^^TBH, I think Amtrak Joe might be the most effective crusader against climate change because he might actually combat America's car addiction, which is honestly more systematic and harder to overcome than switching from coal to wind.

Biden's past votes seem to make me support him to a greater degree with each passing day. I can't wait for Biden to win the Presidency.

But voters (who don't pay attention to politics all the time) love this type of talk.

The only "epiphany" Republicans will have if Trump loses is that they virulently hate whichever Democrat (including Biden, Bullock, Delaney, etc.) wins as much as Obama/Clinton/Pelosi/AOC/etc. Maybe Biden is playing 12.5D chess and just saying these things to win the primary/election, but I have my doubts.

I'm accepting Biden potentially being the nominee, but he really needs to be realistic about what the Republican Party has become. If he doesn't, his four years will consist of him being able to accomplish nothing but maybe just undoing some of Trump's executive orders. It's still preferable to having Trump as President, but it wouldn't bode well for the Democratic Party's future under his leadership.

If he helps Democrats take back the Senate though, he won't have to worry one way or the other about having to reach out too often to Republicans. It would most likely be a narrow majority, of course, but it's still a far more favorable situation. That's something else he should be focused on. It's as important as winning the Presidency.
