Shouldn't Bloomberg be listed as "dead", considering he accepts and releases no donor #s ?

There's a very small chance that he can get the required number of "donors" from merchandise sales.

That's a very big "if" ...

Plus, his campaign has not released any such "donor" number so far.

Yeah I mean it's not likely to happen, but I'm saving "dead" for people with absolutely no chance whatsoever.

The DNC won't say if they'll push out the polling deadline in the event that this month's debate is itself delayed due to the impeachment trial:

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/01/07/democrats-debate-iowa-094981

Quote
"If a conflict with an impeachment trial is unavoidable, the DNC will evaluate its options and work with all the candidates to accommodate them,” Hinojosa said in a statement. The DNC declined to comment when asked if the qualification deadline would be pushed back if the debate was postponed due to the trial.

The DNC confirms that they will delay next week's debate if it conflicts with the impeachment trial:

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/01/07/dnc-debate-rescheduled-impeachment-trial-095624

Quote
The chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Tom Perez, said on Tuesday that the party organization would reschedule next week’s presidential primary debate in Iowa if the televised event conflicts with President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial in the Senate.

“Democrats and our senators can walk and chew gum,” Perez told MSNBC. “Obviously, if there’s a trial on the 14th, then we’ll move the debate. If there’s not, then we’re going to have the debate. At the moment, all systems are go, and so we’re going to move forward.”

Still unclear if they would also push back the qualification deadline.

In other news, CNN has announced the moderators for the debate:

https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/08/politics/cnn-debate-moderators-iowa/index.html

Quote
The seventh Democratic presidential debate will be moderated by CNN's Wolf Blitzer and Abby Phillip as well as The Des Moines Register's Brianne Pfannenstiel next week, the network announced on Wednesday.

Blitzer anchors "The Situation Room" on CNN. Phillip is a political correspondent for the network. Pfannenstiel is chief political correspondent for the Register.

CNN, in partnership with The Des Moines Register, will air the debate live on January 14 at 9 p.m. ET from the campus of Drake University in Iowa. The debate will be the final face-to-face meeting between the candidates before the nation begins heading to the polls, beginning with the Iowa caucuses in early February.

Pfannenstiel is German and means „panhandle“.

But not in the sense of a geographical area (Florida panhandle for example), but the handle of a pan to cook something.

Seems like Bloomberg is happy to avoid the debates, even while blaming Democratic rules for him missing out:

Quote
Bloomberg insisted he’d like to debate if the rules allowed. But the billionaire, a latecomer to the Democratic primary, reasoned it is inappropriate for someone of his wealth to ask supporters for cash...

...Bloomberg has always self-funded his campaigns for the same reasons he laid out Tuesday. In this case, the strategy comes with an additional benefit: inoculating him from televised attacks from opponents and risking a rhetorical misstep.

Yang and Steyer are going to need a miracle to qualify, I think.

Edit: I think we could still get a Qunipiac poll and Selzer by tomorrow. Also possibly a news poll like CNN or Fox. But usually there is some hint about a release and we haven't gotten anything indicating as such.

With the new Fox News polls of NV and SC, I believe Steyer now qualifies for the debate.

I can't believe it. I thought we had gotten rid of him for good.

What a joke.

I agree, and I think he's right strategically. Steyer has been a total non-entity in the debates and is probably hurt by going to them because he's just not very telegenic live. But clearly spending hundreds of millions on ads can buy you just as good and more controlled name recognition than debates do, explaining why Steyer is polling so well in SC and NV.

With the new Fox News polls of NV and SC, I believe Steyer now qualifies for the debate.

Wikipedia still says that Steyer only has 3/4 polls, because of duplicates.

Steyer already had a qualifying FOX poll out of Nevada, so this one gets dropped with the new NV poll from FOX.

Which means Steyer now has a SC Quinnipiac poll, a SC FOX poll and 2 NV FOX polls (of which the older was replaced by the new one).

But you need *either* 4 polls at 5% or 2 polls at 7%.  Steyer lacks the former but still qualifies based on the latter.

I totally forgot that you can qualify with two 7% polls in early states as well ...

I guess the January debate qualification period is now over, so the debate stage is set:

Biden, Sanders, Warren, Buttigieg, Klobuchar, and Steyer.

Technically, the debate can still be delayed by the impeachment trial (and unclear what happens to qualification in that circumstance), but it's looking increasingly unlikely that the trial would actually start as early as Tuesday.  Now the question is whether the Feb. 7th debate will be delayed because of the impeachment trial....

Debate will start at 9pm Eastern, and here's the podium order:

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/01/11/january-debate-candidates-097505

Quote
CNN and the Des Moines Register, the co-hosts of the Jan. 14 debate, announced a podium order based off the average of qualifying polls released in January. From left to right, as the audience will see the candidates: Steyer, Warren, Biden, Sanders, Buttigieg, Klobuchar.

They should just throw the doors open and invite everyone still running. We deserve one more big stage.

There are 12 candidates left. The ones making January, Yang, Bloomberg, Gabbard, Patrick, Bennet and Delaney.

Probably. He always seems to squeak his way into them. He also has enough money to self-fund, even after losing contests.
