This is why experience with the national spotlight or even statewide stuff matters. Bass is publicly melting down right now and she's only been in the spotlight for, what, two weeks?

I happen to agree with Bass on a number of issues

But her past is checkered and she is NOT ready for this.

She needs to be out of consideration.

Instantly reminded of "I am not a witch," or "I am not a crook."
The right will latch onto this.

That was my point.  Saying "I am not _______," immediately leads people to believe you are whatever it is you said you aren't.

It just shows perfectly how shrewd it is that Warren manages to be economically one of the most progressive Senators and yet says "I'm a capitalist to my bones."

It's all about framing. Adopting a bold policy goes down easiest when put in terms that are traditional and align with centrist messaging.

I wasn’t aware Harris had any significant base of support among any demographic during her presidential run, judging by her poll numbers. News to me!
I suspect what you're not aware of could fill several libraries.

Yet there'll be no Kamala Harris Presidential Library to be filled. Sad
No Warren/Sanders either. Wink

Lets be honest, they're just mad that Kamala Harris is probably going to be the 47th president of the United States and Warren or Sanders never will.

With the amount of liquorlining there is in poor black communities this sentiment isn't surprising and there are a lot of people in South Los Angeles who probably feel the same way. That aside, I didn't believe that she was going to be the pick anyway.

I think people are delusional if they think its between Harris and Bass. Biden is clearly considering other options like Duckworth, Demings.

Don't know if this was already posted, but I'm not going back through the last 30 pages, so here's an interesting piece from WaPo yesterday - Biden's delay in choosing a running mate intensifies jockeying between potential picks:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/bidens-delay-in-choosing-a-vp-intensifies-jockeying-between-potential-picks/2020/08/02/6eea5068-d4d2-11ea-930e-d88518c57dcc_story.html

Quote
[...]

The increasing nastiness is fueled by a sense, even among Biden's closest advisers, that Biden is entering the final phase of the search without a clear favorite. Rather than a traditional "shortlist" of three candidates, people close to the process expect him to interview five or six finalists for the position.

[...]

"It bugs me that people want to pit these two Black women against the other," said Rep. James E. Clyburn (D-S.C.), a key Biden confidant, referring to the burgeoning Bass vs. Harris narrative. "Nobody is trying to pit Sen. Elizabeth Warren against [Michigan Gov. Gretchen] Whitmer. And both of their names are being mentioned every day as being in the search."

[...]

Clyburn also said he believes it would be a "plus" for Biden to select a Black woman, but added the former vice president does not like being told what to do - and he provided some hint that he can't endorse one of the candidates.

[...]

"Ultimatums are not good," Clyburn said. "I'm not going to tell the vice president what he must do." He warned that pushing Biden too hard can backfire. "Nobody wants to be forced," Clyburn said.

Others are taking a far different approach in the final days. The Rev. William Barber, a leader of the Poor People's Campaign, and roughly 50 other leading Black clergy members sent an open letter to Biden's campaign Friday "insisting" that he select a Black woman.

[...]

"If I had to bet my life on who would be the candidate, I'd still bet Harris," said Rendell, who is raising money for Biden and frequently talks to his top campaign officials. "She has the least negatives, she's the most polished. She's the person who can take on [Vice President] Pence in a campaign debate."

[...]

The interview process for these women has been unusually public. Nearly all of the women in contention have headlined a fundraiser with Biden and appeared during at least one virtual event with his wife, Jill - a strong signal that Biden will closely consult his wife as he makes his decision.

The exchanges give each potential vice president some time to develop a rapport with Biden. On Friday, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) headlined a grass-roots fundraiser for him and at one point Biden apologized for going on too long.

"No! Don’t be sorry," Warren said. "I love everything you had to say."

Not really any new information here, but found some of the insight interesting. And I think those last few paragraphs are the first time I've seen any article specifically point out that Biden/Warren fundraiser.

Crappy thread. It’s possible to respect both Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren. It is possible to believe both would be fine vice presidents. What even is all this?

Polling for VP is normally stupid, but this is the way to do it. Spoilers, nothing really changes, the VP pick won't make an immediate difference in margins. Also...you're still polling Abrams? Seriously?

Just listened to Pod Save America, where they addressed the Veepstakes for the first time in awhile. They've been eschewing it because, as they say, "they gave up the prediction game after 2016" (though they did previously have a great 3-parter on the logistics of the selection process) but they finally caved today.

The main issue they have is with all of the articles, particularly of late, where opposition research is being dropped from all sorts of people (most of whom are miles away from actually knowing anything about Biden's thoughts). They actually called out Ed Rendell in particular because they said he's been looking for a way to diss Democrats & increase his own media presence.

It made me realize that the sources in pretty much all of these articles are sketchy & all have major agendas, & that if there was a clear front-runner, then they would've already been announced. What seems to be made clear by all of the Veepstakes punditry & reporting is that none of us know who Biden's gonna pick & none of the reporting we're reading can be trusted to actually tell us what's going on because so few people really do (& those people aren't talking!).
