Biden is doing an excellent job keeping everyone guessing.

Agreed, but I'd still be very surprised if it's not Kamala Harris.

Picking someone in this environment who attacked him on racial issues seems risky.

Daily Kos endorses Bass:

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2020/7/22/1962934/-Karen-Bass-for-VP

The argument really doesn't make sense. "Pick Bass because Trump doesn't know who she is!" Neither do most voters, so Biden would have to spend time introducing her, & because she's never faced a national campaign like Warren or Harris, we also don't know what's in her closet. We already found the Castro remark.

People are gonna be writing a lot of endorsement & prediction articles this next week, so it might be good to remember what Biden said earlier this month: "Those who don't know speak, those who know don't."

David Axelrod has also graced us with his (much more sane) take:

https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/22/opinions/joe-biden-vice-presidential-key-factor-axelrod/index.html

Quote
And given that he would be the oldest president ever to serve in the Oval Office, Biden may feel a special obligation to choose the woman he believes would make the best president and not just the best candidate this November.

In the next few weeks, Biden will be sitting down or zooming with a final list of contenders, whittled from a larger roster by intensive vetting and preliminary interviews by Biden's team. Those conversations will be more important than any political calculations.

It could lead to a candidate of color -- or not. It could yield a nominee who is relatively young, or one who is older. But it almost certainly will produce the candidate with whom, in his gut, Biden feels most comfortable and in whom he has confidence as a partner for the years, and not just months, to come.

He pretty much says it'll be a Senator (e.g., Warren, Harris, Duckworth) or at least somebody with national experience (Rice). He makes it pretty clear that Biden should judge moreso on experience to be President on Day 1 than on political pressures.

No Susan Rice is the only big mistake. Can't believe the hype she is getting lately.

I'm still waiting on why she would be a big mistake. I only hear, Benghazi! Like that's a real political issue and she wasn't Secretary of State when it happened.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/23/politics/biden-vp-kamala-harris/index.html

Top 5

1.) Kamala Harris
2.) Keisha Lance Bottoms
3.) Susan Rice
4.) Tammy Duckworth
5.) Elizabeth Warren

My pick has still been KLB this whole time for who I would choose, I'm surprised she's still high up there on this particular list.

If we are talking about Karen Bass then why not Terri Sewell or Gwen Moore? If you are gonna choose someone from the House (which I'm not a fan of at all) then mind as well broaden your options.

She was the one who went on tv and lied about it.

I feel like Terri Sewell should've been given a harder look. Does she have any real skeletons that would've disqualified her?

Where’s all this Karen Bass hate coming from? She’s more qualified than Demings and KLB, yet a lot of the posters pushing those 2 are tearing her down.

She's older than those two. In the end, age is a big negative to some people, especially if Biden is looking for a potential successor.

Karen Bass went on to say she wouldn't seek the Presidency if she became VP. You could have an open door in 2024 again, I think Biden is seriously considering two-terms if he feels up to it and wins two elections.

I'm not convinced Karen Bass is ready for prime time and be a potential successor. Kamala Harris is better across the board. I'd even prefer Liz Warren over Bass. However, if it isn't Kamala, I hope for Val Demings or Gretchen Whitmer.

I don’t mind her, but she’s definitely someone who wouldn’t excite a lot of people.

This is Cillizza, so I wouldn't put much stock in his rankings. The guy's analysis is laughable.

That's my concern with picking someone like Bass. After all the hype she might falter once the spotlight turns on her.

Terri Sewell is really dry and boring. During the impeachment trial, she asked some of the worst questions among the Democratic side. I'm sorry to say it but it's the truth.

Biden is considering Bass because he wants someone who won't overshadow him and not an obvious successor for 2024. Even if he doesn't make it until '24, Bass would more likely only be a caretaker Prez than run.
