The KS GOP moderate branch needs to be cleansed with fire, and that's the end of it. Tim Huelskamp 2020.

Wow how dare a moderate state have a moderate ruling party!

Moderate? Kansas voted for Trump by 20 points.

A Kansas moderate is still a conservative in the national scale of things. They just live in a suburb and prefer not to have their schools funding gutted.

In a sense they are more conservative in the tradionalist sense (societal stability etc), then the "conservative" wing, which only cares about dismantling government and are thus more Randian and economically libertarian, than conservative.

That explains the disconnect between support for Trump and support for moderates locally.

So Kobach raised $242K, Marshall $376K, and Bollier over $2.2 million. Hard to say that Marshall would be a shoe-in with those #s.

Yes, the Kansas Moderates are much more Rod Dreher than Lincoln Chafee.  It's similar to the pre-1960's FDR-Truman + conservative downballot Dem voters.  Because Democrats have been so nonviable for anything other than governorship and an occasional CD for so long and the legislature has been GOP dominated almost continuously since the state was founded, all of the traditional partisan divisions play out as different coalitions within the GOP primary.  It's traditionally the only election that matters.   It's basically a mirror image of the Solid South, though without the explicit election rigging.

Republicans are shooting themselves in the foot praying for Pompeo or someone else to bail them out here and that is why a lot of money is waiting on the sidelines.

I will too, but they won't. Kobach will not win the primary.

The poor fundraising for both Kobach and Marshall is telling an interesting story here. Kobach is probably having trouble convincing donors he can win the general, and Marshall is probably having trouble convincing donors he can win the primary.

Bollier and Schumer need to get an outside group to go full Claire McCaskill on Marshall and Lindstrom

Democrats should make an effort to donate to Kobach.
I would donate to the f**ker just to help him win the GOP nomination.

That's quite a risk. Even though that would give Dems a small chance to win the senate seat, most liekly, another crazy guy will be elected to the senate.

Kobach is going to have the same voting record as any other “non-offensive” Republican Senator like David Perdue or Joni Ernst. There’s no real downside to him winning the primary.

No.

How about we do something else? How about we act like normal people and "cleanse" the GOP of lunatics like Kobach and Huelskamp instead?

I wouldn't waste your time arguing Sunrise, this guy said Kevin McCarthy should be primaried for insufficient conservatism. Squinting

How is Tim Huelskamp, who stood for his beliefs even to the point of electoral defeat, worse than party switching, float like a boat, Barbara Bollier?

Maybe, but the zealotry and the willingness to flat out lie in such an aggressive manner is what really puts him apart. Then give him a senate seat so he has a national platform to put out more disinformation about voting, and you have one of the most effective spokespersons for voting suppression.

As I've said before it would be a winnable race if he was the nominee but that is certainly playing with fire. Yes, he lost in a STATE level race two years ago, but it was only by five points in a D+9 year following an extremely unpopular republican governor.

Ted Cruz and Tom Cotton are more dangerous than generic R because of the extremes they’re willing to go to.

Kobach would vote the same but would he write the same bills and amendments which the rest of the caucus will rubber-stamp?

Cruz and Cotton aren’t too much more effective at getting anything vile done relative to the typical Republican, so I don’t see why “risking” having someone like Kobach in the Senate is such a big deal.

I’d much rather have a 40% shot at a Democratic Kansas Senator and a 60% shot at a Cruz clone than a 100% shot at another Cornyn clone. It’s not even a close call

Wow how dare a moderate state have a moderate ruling party!

Moderate? Kansas voted for Trump by 20 points.

Moderate very partisan states still vote for their pres nominees by huge margins. Utah voted for Trump bigly and it’s a very moderate state. The same can be said for Dem states like it too. Maryland is a moderate very blue state and Clinton won it by 27.

Conflating partisanship and moderation is not just incorrect, its an impendiment to understanding politics.

If they want Wagle and Lindstrom to withdraw in order to stop Kobach from being the nominee, then I think it's pretty clear that they favor Marshall. No need to try and deny it.
