In other news, one Sen. Bob Corker shared with reporters his thoughts on bringing in hired counsel to do the Senators job of questioning Ford:

"Somebody will do something that you guys will run 24/7 and inadvertently somebody will do something that’s insensitive," he told reporters. "I would not be wanting to ask questions about something like this. I’m glad they're going to get outside counsel."

A painfully explicit admission that there's simply no way Republican senators can be safely relied on to question a woman claiming sexual assault that won't seem utterly alien and bizarre to vast swaths of women. Or most voters under 35 for that matter.

I'm glad the GOP is using outside counsel. The idea of trusting people like Ted Cruz and Mike Crapo to question Ford fairly is beyond silly. They represent their states political views well - but unfortunately that means they are ideologically incapable of questioning Ford fairly.

But isn't that the point?!?

Don't hide behind hired counsel's skirt.

In this specific case, they desperately need the assistance. It's basically the same as accommodating someone with a disability. It would be unfair to both Ford and the Senator to force them to have a direct interview, so you bring in a neutral third party.

Oh dear, it seems Kavanaugh's prep sessions are not going very well:

Let us not forget Kavanaugh was a top lieutenant of Special Investigator Ken Starr, haranguing then-President Bill Clinton's sexual affairs.  But now he's all huffy that HIS personal life is getting examined.  Karma's a bitch, eh, Brett?

Is today the day Avenatti was supposed to make a press conference with another of Kavanaugh's alleged victims before he disappeared from twitter altogether?

This is credulous to the point of delusion. There's no reason to imagine Mitchell is in any way neutral. More, there's no reason to imagine this is being done for any reason but to deny Democrats footage of Republicans belittling a victim of sexual assault.

I'll note one more point on the whole "What if this happened under President Hillary Clinton?" question. The #metoo movement began with Trump in the White House, so there probably wouldn't be this level of activism if Hillary Clinton were President (among other things, a focus on sexual harassment doesn't exactly help her politically.)

The Hannibal Buress skit that got the ball rolling happened in 2014.

This article discusses the theory that the incident with Fors happened, but Kavanaugh was so drunk that he legitimately doesn't remember. Seems way more plausible than the other "nobody's lying" theory:

Despite some senators expressing interest in hearing her, Deborah Ramirez says she will not testify in front of the committee, period. She also says she will not take questions from press and tells them to call her Lawyer instead: https://townhall.com/tipsheet/bethbaumann/2018/09/25/breaking-deborah-ramirez-refuses-to-testify-heres-her-response-to-the-senate-judiciary-committee-n2522555

Why is this trash from townhall still posted here?

Does this mean that the Kavanaugh nomination is now officially a disaster?

Has anyone looked at the calendars from the summer of '82 that Kav's attorney submitted to the Senate committee this morning as "supporting evidence" that he was not there?

(Obviously this is a ridiculous way to prove not going to a party... esp since you plan out your day... put game days, out of town days, school meetings etc. ... you don't tend to record get-togethers and "lets go to whoever's house to drink tonight" type parties which tend to be decided just before they happen")

I noticed he saw both Grease 2 and Poltergeist in the theaters.

Genius defense. Certainly, OJ is innocent as he did not write "muder Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman" on the day he was set-up

Maybe the man who assaulted Dr. Ford wasn't Kavanaugh at all, but a mysterious douchebag stranger in sunglasses and a leather jacket.
