HTMLDon would have supported the crown as well. He has said that the government has the right to confiscate weapons in times of national emergency.

The traitors, of course, except they were no such thing - their reasons for declaring independence were documented and reasonable.

Well, the argument was 'no taxation without representation'. We have representation in regards to our current taxes. Also, other reasons were given.

This is a poorly phrased question. By "traitors" do you mean British loyalists or traitors to the Crown (i.e. Minutemen)? By "legitimate sovereign" do you mean George Washington or King George?

George Washington was never sovereign, though he could have been, but fortunately he rejected the notion of wearing a crown.

Most likely moderate Tory, from the fact that the patriot propaganda was manufactured in reams by rabble-rousing atheists always moaning about some lost "freedom."

I wasn't paying attention to the question (traitors = bad, legitimate = good), so I answered number 2 before I got it.  I would of course have supported the colonies, living in one myself.

This is a rather difficult question to answer as I do not know what I would have done if I were a resident of, say North Carolina, in 1776.  I, like most here, would like to think I would have been drawn to the Patriot's cause.

Some here need to keep in mind that I do not oppose being a traitor to another country, only to the United States of America.  If you want to be a traitor to the UK, that's your business and not mine.  It is the traitor CSA that was seeking alliances with the British Crown, not our sacred Union.

I'd be a traitor, though it's not especially high on the list of wars I'd have risked my life to win.

The US Government was trying to win the British to their side as well. And not only that but the US Govt purchased hundreds of thousands of small arms, artillery, etc from the British Govt.

You wouldn't have risked your life to fight the war that eventually granted us our independence? lol

I know, but I'm in favor of reconciliation.  Like in 1860, I might have voted CUP, even though I agreed with the Republicans more in theory.
