Honestly, this happened in spite of Trump, not because of him, and we still have no way of knowing if Kim is playing us for fools or if he is seriously changing behavior yet.

I don't trust Kim either, but I feel that if Trump were to be given the prize, Kim would have to be given it as well. If that were not the case, it would not look even handed. It might in fact be a perfect excuse for Kim to undermine any deal that is signed...

Plenty of people regret the award decision on the forces favorable to Obama. Obama even considered not going to the ceremony in Oslo- I would imagine because even he felt it was all a phony win.

If he thought that, why did he accept it?  He could have (courteously) refused it on the basis that he hadn't yet earned it.

What did Trump do to bring this about?

The answer is either “nothing” or “acted so completely erratically he terrified both North and South Korea into closer relations.”

Neither merits any sort of recognition.

That being said, the Nobel Committee would never in a million years give it to someone as globally hated as Donald Trump, so this conversation is about as relevant as asking if I will get a Nobel prize. It’s going to Moon.
