Obama was even surprised that he received it.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-34277960

Plenty of people regret the award decision on the forces favorable to Obama. Obama even considered not going to the ceremony in Oslo- I would imagine because even he felt it was all a phony win.

If he thought that, why did he accept it?  He could have (courteously) refused it on the basis that he hadn't yet earned it.

That kind of honesty would actually have earned him political benefits.

I guess you only have one chance to get something like a Nobel... it's hard to turn something like that down. They also figured that it would probably bring good publicity regardless, maybe a net benefit towards the Democrats. Ultimately, it was probably was a net negative politically, though.

No, it should go to the South Korea leader, not the United States leader.

Pretty much this. Under normal circumstances I'd also give it to Kim Jong Un since it takes 2 to sign a peace deal but well, not really, he was who started the warmongering.

This, and Obama didn't really deserve it either.

The odds of winning the lottery or being struck by lightning twice in the same day are better than those of Trump EVER winning the Nobel Peace Prize, no matter how much he may deserve it.  Keep in mind, they awarded it to Obama during his first year in office, without him doing much of anything to promote peace in the first place.  Ditto for Al Gore, who won it over Irena Sendler (who doubtlessly deserved it more) for simply producing a politically charged documentary on climate change they liked.  Trump is even more hated in Europe than Gore and Obama were loved, and it's doubtful that the president even had much to do with what's going on in the Koreas right now.

I suspect that this had more to do with the Olympics being in Korea than anything else, especially sunce the two Koreas competed on a single team.  That was one of the reasons that de Cubertin established the modern Olympics in the first place: he desired for them to be a means of promoting peace and international cooperation.
