Is CHS a former Democrat or something?

Brandon Presely or Jim Hood need to get off their ass and run.

Actually she is. Like Parker Griffith and Artur Davis, she jumped ship in 2010 and joined the Republicans.

Former very conservative Democrat (in real, not present, sense of these words), of which there were considerble number in Mississippi even after 2007 elections. Now, all of them are either Republicans, or - retired (or - both). Those called "conservative Democrats" now (even in Mississippi) are more moderate...

According to article, McConnell wanted a woman picked in order to improve the party's brand. Same with Alabama as well.

As a member of the Democratic Party, Cindy Hyde-Smith was complicit in the selling and manufacturing of baby parts and in electing a terrorist anti-American bigot to the White House in 2008. She can’t Hyde from her record.

Pre 2010 Mississippi Democrat Party was mostly Dixiecrats and conservative Dems. Hyde-Smith will be fine in her election

Worse than Luther Strange considering AG was a pretty prominent position that most voters are familiar with while Commissioner of AG prob has to be one of the most low key row office in the state.

I'm sure that having a racist adulterer maul a promising Republican woman in the jungle primary will do wonders for the party's brand. Cheesy

She will be the 23rd woman and 6th female Republican in the U.S. Senate.

Anyone know what her general views are? What does she think about abortion, gay marriage, worker's rights, etc.?

I’d imagine she’s generally probably a typical Southern conservative on most issues.

Actually I have no problem with that, but they could do a lot better to improve their brand by picking more minorities.

LET’s GO CINDY.

Republicans will dramatically increase the number of GOP women in the Senate in 2018.

Absolutely. She was one of the most conservative Democrats in state legislature (and in Mississippi that meant a lot at that time), and then - "normal conservative Republican". So - pro-life, anti-gay marriage, pro-business and anti-labor.

She was put in at McConnell's insistence. Can we please dispell with this fiction that McConnell is some genius strategist and master of the Senate legislator?

I’m astonished at the fact that Bryant could’ve appointed Lynn Fitch if McConnell really wanted a woman that bad. At least Bryant didn’t appoint himself.

I was gonna say, Stacey Pickering has a penis (southern males with female names)  but you already edited it!

Lol! I had to catch myself at that point.

This is going as poorly as I could have expected with Gov Bryant at the helm.  I mean, I think CHS is a fine pick but I wouldn't have made it (especially if I knew the White House would be so openly antagonistic).

Looking at you, Brandon Presley...

A McDaniel/Espy runoff would be fun, especially if it ended-up deciding control of the chamber (which isn't all that unlikely, just assume that Dems defend all of their incumbents and pickup one of AZ/NV/TN/TX).

Full McDaniel statement on CHS appointment, btw

Also, Andy Taggart - who has been mentioned as an additional Republican who might consider getting into the race - embraces CHS on Twitter, but stops short of giving his endorsement.

Have we heard anything from Presley? He liked this tweet a week or two ago:

That wouldn't bar him to run for this special election.
