If Pressley doesn't run, I think Espy would be solid against McDaniel, he's giving me Doug Jones vibes.

Espy had very unpleasant scandals in the past. He wasn't indicted, but - still. And he is Black. I can't imagine Black person winning statewide election in Mississippi now, given present level of voter's polarization by race.

And Ralph Northam didn't win, Ed Gillespie lost. And tomorrow it won't be Conor Lamb who would have wom but Rick Saccone who would have lost.

If Conor lamb wins, it will be a result of him more than Saccone. Jones obviously won’t purely because or Moore. Northam was always going to win so it’s not shocking.

I think that Tate Reeves or Haley Barbour would be the best candidates to keep this senate seat for the GOP in 2018.

You're delusional if you don't believe Roy Moore was the reason that seat was lost. It was 100% him. Literally ANY other Republican would have won easily.

It's not hard to imagine Strange pissing the Moore cultists off so much that a lot of them stay home.

I wouldn't say 100% since the national environment definitely played a role as well.  Afterall, Alabama did elect Jeff Sessions in the past.

Well, corrupt Luther Strange probably would have lost as well, and let’s not forget that Trump’s approval rating among the voters who turned out in the December election was pretty terrible.

But yeah, Moore and Strange were by far the worst Republican candidates.
Strange would have won against Jones.

Maybe, maybe not. We’ll never find out. All I’m saying is that Luther Strange makes Roy Blunt look good by comparison. Just because Moore turned out to be terrible doesn’t mean Strange was a strong candidate (he wasn’t).

I think Mo Brooks would have won by 5-7 or something like that.

Jones was actually doing almost as well in polling vs Luther Strange. Also, why would there be such a small swing from 2016, when there's been a pretty massive special election swing since Trump is president? There obviously would be a big swung like we've seen in basically every election since 2016. You do realize dems are obviously favored to win the house, right? Polls don't mean anything - actual election results do (and they've been fantastic for dems across the board).

Luther Strange was seen as corrupt and unresponsive to Alabama's needs. Jones vs Strange would have been around +8 Strange.

If we’re ignoring polling, other special election results/swings and Strange’s weaknesses as a candidate, then sure.

Amazing how inelastic DeSoto is.

Anyways, both Presley and Hood performed very well in Northeastern Mississippi which is a very rural region. Tishomingo, for example, voted 86-12 Trump. In 2000 the same county only voted 59-39 Bush and the swing & trend towards Republicans accelerated since. Those are some really impressive results and shows that (the right) Democrats can be competitive in a state that is very polarized in multiple ways.

Those were junk Fox News polls and one hypothetical 3-way race with both Strange and Moore.

Saw a Wicker ad a few minutes ago. It was anti-McDaniel and claimed that McDaniel said that Trump was not a "conservative" and called Trump's supporters "delusional" and "disturbing."
