I’d rather see a public survey than these Twitter rumors

Speaking for myself, I would be perfectly happy to have Twitter insiders lie to me for the next month that Heitkamp is tied in private polls so I can save up all my disappointment for Election Day.

Same lol

Also, it's not as if saying Heitkamp having a strong lead in the cities is a stretch, either. The Eastern cities are stretchy and sympathetic to Democrats, and Heitkamp did very well there in 2012. A quarter of the population lives in Fargo's county alone, and it doesn't take much to imagine her having a strong lead there and in Grand Forks (and Wahpeton and possibly Jamestown). However, it's the fast-growing rural West (and, to a lesser extent, the Central portion of the state) she needs to worry about. I'm hoping she can increase her numbers in the Central area, especially Bismarck-Mandan and Minot, over how she performed there in 2012. Places in the West like Williston, Dickinson, and Watford City are pretty much already lost to her, though.

If the best news for Heitkamp is a "private poll" that some Msnbc hack claims to have seen than shows her down several points as an incumbent, then she really is screwed

Heitkamp apparently will be on 60 minutes explaining her vote.

I saw that 60 Minutes report just a few hours ago. She did come off as sincere, and flat out admitted that it would have been wiser for her to have voted for Kavanaugh than against him. In other words, she voted her conscience. Susan Collins was also interviewed by the program, and she seems to have adopted the same line that Manchin and the other Republican Senators have used: that Ford is a victim of sexual assault, but that she is mistaken in regards to the identity of her attacker (that is, Kavanaugh). I don't know how she, or the others can say that with a straight face, given that Ford has been adamant about her attacker's identity.

The fact that she voted for Gorsuch makes it easier for her to "justify" this vote.

She can honestly say, "I will vote for any qualified nominee, regardless of ideology, but disturbing questions about personal character are disqualifying."

Or, maybe more significantly, how she can know for sure that Ford is mistaken. The whole point is that there is doubt, and doubt should have resulted in someone else being nominated (and presumably confirmed). Oh well. I think coming across as genuine is better for Heitkamp than voting for Kavanaugh would have been.

Unfortunately for Heitkamp, she lives in a state where most voters are going to side with C(R)amer on this one.

This will not make a difference. At this point, I think that Heitkamp is done for.

Heitkamp is not favored, but with a month left I don't think it's fair to say she is totally done for. I mean, you have to remember Donnelly also made the decision to vote against Kavanaugh.

Heitkamp made a decision and is sticking with it. It would be really bad if she voted against Kavanaugh and then proceeded to tell everyone that rape is not actually that bad.

How many Akin moments have we claimed Cramer has had so far?

I know, it was sarcasm. Heitkamp could still win (and counting her out is foolish, especially if you believe 2018 will be a massive D wave), but if she does it won’t be because of his views on #metoo. Cramer has made comments far worse than that and a majority of ND voters probably sides with him on this issue.

Surprise surprise, partisan SCOTUS gonna partisan.

Pack the court, create new states. Perhaps in North Dakota, each Reservation can secede and form its own state in a few years, and then Heitkamp can carpetbag there to get elected.

Well, at least this particular SC decision didn't involve the new justice, and wasn't entirely split on partisan lines...

Additionally, reports indicate that Heitkamp was already struggling with Native American voters due to her inaction on the Dakota Access Pipeline issue.

At this point, I'm still waiting for additional polling later this month/early next month, but I would be pleasantly surprised if such polls indicate Heitkamp closing the gap...

That seems dumb on North Dakota republicans part. Wouldnt the oil workers that have flooded the state also have an issue with this?

We dont actually know how the voting went apparently. Only that RBG wrote the dissent and Kagan joined in.

Apparently the result only needed to be 4-4 to send the case back down to the lower court.
