This is such a good ad from Heidi(what else is new). On the heels of the Kavanaugh announcement, this is gonna help her.

Also helps that this will likely be the only ad playing on TV, because Cramer is underfunded and the NRs left the race(I will never get over this decision, its soooo dumb).

Apparently they only withdrew their reservation in the western portion of their state, where Heidi was going to get crushed anyway.

It should not be ignored that if elected, Cramer will be a much more influential Senator than Heitkamp. He's made his mark in the House and his personal magnetism is far bigger than Hawley, or Morrissey, or Braun, or Rosendale, or McSally.

Oh, good grief.

Anyway, I think the first debate was supposed to be tonight but is being rescheduled because of the Kavanaugh craziness? Correct me if I'm wrong

CNN: Heitkamp is in Trouble

https://edition.cnn.com/2018/10/06/politics/poll-of-the-week-heidi-heitkamp-is-in-trouble/index.html

Conclusion: She is probably down high single to low double digits.

I think Heitkamp can still make it. A Kavanaugh confirmation will help her much more than a rejection would have. Republicans have less motivation to punish her now that he’ll make the court.

This race was Lean R before Kavanaugh's confirmation, it’ll most likely remain Lean R after Kavanaugh's confirmation.

Ad from Heitkamp explaining her Kavanaugh vote and mentioning that she voted for Gorsuch. It’s a good strategy and I think she should really stress that she would have voted for anyone BUT Kavanaugh.

Let's be honest: if she were down by a couple of points rather than double-digit she would have voted to confirm. This is more about securing a plum job after she leaves the senate

Or: she genuinely believed women had been assaulted

It's a combination of both. Heitkamp seems like she was sincerely disturbed by the allegations, but at the same time, her seat is in grave jeopardy. She knows that she will almost certainly lose at this point, so voting her conscience is an easier decision to make.

More likely: If she wants a top level lobbying position she needs to be welcome in the offices of her senate colleagues, Same reason why senator Hamlet(Flake) was always going to be a yes

this is extremely dumb IMO. I would try to avoid it as much as possible, and give the straight shooter answer when it comes up.

I think Heitkamp is fine, from a political strategy perspective, here. North Dakota is a market that appreciates people being honest in their explanations, and Heitkamp does come across as honest and expressing her feelings in her explanations. I think a lot of North Dakotans appreciate that even to the extent they disagree with her, and it's a positive contrast with someone like Cramer being relentlessly political about everything.

If the best news for Heitkamp is a "private poll" that some Msnbc hack claims to have seen than shows her down several points as an incumbent, then she really is screwed

Speaking for myself, I would be perfectly happy to have Twitter insiders lie to me for the next month that Heitkamp is tied in private polls so I can save up all my disappointment for Election Day.
