Cruz counters Beto's proposed 6 debates with 5. Which sounds great, except that they're all scheduled for Friday nights and the proposal is "all inclusive and final."

https://www.texastribune.org/2018/07/25/ted-cruz-proposes-five-debates-beto-orourke-texas/

I don't know. Most people are out on Friday nights and, unless they are political junkies, won't stay home to watch a senate debate.

Which is why Cruz is proposing it.

Why not one debate during a week-end and then the other 4 debates set during the week (from a Monday to a Thursday), for example? That way, people will surely be at home to watch debates.

The only reason why Cruz wants it to be on Friday is because he's afraid that people learn more about his record.

Cruz is afraid od O'Rourke gaining in name recognition. He didn't even want to debate him in the first place.

O'Rourke is running a great campaign against the slimy unlikable Cruz. It'll be interesting to see how this race turns out. If Cruz still wins by a decent margin, and especially if he does so at the same time as a big D wave, it shows TX is completely unwinnable for any Democrat for at least another decade or two.

When Beto said that his campaign was just about "human beings," I was instantly reminded of this: https://www.tedcruzforhumanpresident.com/

I was reminded of this: http://www.cc.com/video-clips/wq59nv/the-daily-show-with-jon-stewart-rnc-2012---the-road-to-jeb-bush-2016---mitt-romney--a-human-who-built-that

That doesn't make them irrelevant though. It just means that instead of being free publicity (which would probably be of net benefit to Beto) they're going to be soundbyte/gaffe/youtube magnets. Cruz probably thinks that benefits him (and it's certainly better on average for him than high viewership debates) but it's not a bad chance for Beto either.

I love Beto.
The only problem with digital ads is 99% of people on YouTube skip them after 5 seconds.

Cruz can't escape his single-digit leads for some reason.  Hell, I can't even remember the last time he was 50 or over!

Ted Cruz is a totally unstable individual. He is the single biggest liar I’ve ever come across, in politics or otherwise, and I have seen some of the best of them. His statements are totally untrue and completely outrageous. It is hard to believe a person who proclaims to be a Christian could be so dishonest and lie so much

RCP has already rated Texas as Lean R, so maybe in their case they could now rate it as toss-up.

I have a weird gut feeling that Cruz is going to lose. My head says no way but my gut says it could happen.

The seat is in play. But will enough dems vote to push O'Rourke to victory?

I...that....I cant...THATS SO MUCH $$$$!!!

Starting to think this seat is tilt R, the campaign hasnt heated up yet, and Cruz is already at a 5 point average. And it seems that Beto will have domination over the airwaves, which is crucial. Really, all I need to see is whether Beto improves when he actually spends his money.

People have been underestimating Beto this entire cycle. (Ex: Despite the tardiness of Cook and others, the race became Lean R at least a month ago. And Zaybay is quite right that it's moving swiftly towards a Tilt.) And they'll probably continue doing so through Election Day. Fine by me!

Just like we understimated Donald Trump during the 2016 election and never thought he could beat Hillary Clinton.

Well, yeah, obviously neither party has a monopoly on cockiness.
