I see a lot of white swingy Texas in that crowd.

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/annehelenpetersen/beto-orourke-ted-cruz-texas-senate-midterms

He's running one hell of a campaign out there.  A strong showing this year could make him a future Democratic leader in Texas - the beginnings of a blue infrastructure with a good blue bench.

He has a great chance, and is building enthusiasm and infrastructure, which is needed in the state. I say Cruz has the advantage, but it seems to be shrinking each week.

I wish Democrats would stop being such wimps and just blast Trump calling Cruz Lyin' Ted on TV and Radio for the next 3 months nonstop.

I want this to happen so badly. I have a good feeling about it, but my brain tells me Cruz will probably win by 3-6 points in the end.

^^^^^This. If Beto does not win, which is probable, he will still have made it easier for future dems to win statewide as he is reaching out to every and any texas that's willing to listen to a democrat talk about liberal ideas

I wouldn't be surprised if Beto stole Ted Cruz's lunch money back in high school., So cool

If O'Rourke ends up doing very well this year I certainly hope he stays active in TX politics and runs for something else in the future. He'd actually have accomplished what countless overhyped TX Dems have failed at.

well, he would kinda have to, as a great result for Beto would be him beating Cruz.

Well, I mean moreso if he makes it a real race, not another routine double digit thumping.

I sincerely hope he can pull this out and take down Rafael. Beto deserves it for running a fine campaign alone. But I have a feeling it will be Missouri 2016 all over again with a heartbreaking 3-4 point loss against a Republican incumbent. Hope my feeling is wrong. The bad thing is if Beto loses, he has little perspective for higher office going forward. As I see it, Cornyn is more difficult to beat in 2020 and the Governor's chair won't be up until 2022, which is potentially a midterm under a Democratic president. What is left? Mayor of El Paso? Or cabinet job in a Democratic administration?

I've been saying this for months now: I think Beto will lose, but not by more than 5 points. It'll be much like Blunt vs. Kander 2016.

TX has no term limits. I doubt Abbott moves unless Cornyn retires and runs for Senate.

I could see him taking the Kander route and becoming a nationalized #resistance hero, which would hamper any future runs at statewide office.

I dont think Abbott is interested in DC politics. He could have been a presidential candidate but he doesnt want to so why would he chose the Senate?

He could have, but in 2016 he was only Governor for half a term, not a good look abandoning your state to run for President without much experience.

I think John Boehner was right to say that Ted Cruz is Lucifer in the flesh.

The best way would be if Cruz loses in 2018 and Trump in 2020. Then finally a Mainstream Republican like Baker, Hogan, Sununu can step in and run for POTUS AND start rebuilding the Republican Party.
