Continuity:

A guide to the Throne Room event: While we won’t have a POV on this from me (as I lost the one I had and I haven’t been able to write, I leave it open if someone wants a stab at it), it’s important for continuity to have a clear idea of the outcome here. Basically, the confrontation between Ned and Cersei ended up in a struggle, but with the Goldcloaks and Renly’s allies and knights fighting the Lannisters alongside Stark.

Ser Barristan Selmy sided with Ned, seeing him as the legal Lord Protector, as did Ser Mandon Moore, the last one because of Selmy and his respect for Lord Arryn. Ser Boros and Ser Meryn where slain by Ser Balon Swann and Ser Loras, while the Hound killed Hobber Redwyne, wounded Lord Royce and gave Renly a minor scar on his face.

As Cersei, her children and the remaining knights escaped the room and attempted to escape the Red Keep through the corridors their group separated after confronting more Goldcloaks. The Hound leaves with Joffrey as they’re separated from Cersei. Shortly afterwards Joffrey’s corpse is found on the courtyard, having been struck in the chest with a sword. Ser Arys, Tyrek and Lancel Lannister grab Tommen and manage to break the ambush, escaping the city with the Prince.

Cersei, still grieving over the body of her son, is captured along with Myrcella and Ser Preston Greenfield as the last one is forced to surrender due to being outmatched. The Hound is nowhere to be seen. The first meeting of the Small Council takes place shortly after this and as the news of Joffrey’s death spread, with Tommen missing, and Cersei and Myrcella locked in the Red Keep.

In General: The Viserys-Daenerys situation aside, the story goes the same up to the point Ned and Cersei have their Throne Room showdown, meaning we are in the middle of the Lannister-Tully war, before the Tullys are smashed in Riverrun and a few weeks before Robb raises the Stark banners. Some details might be altered in time as we follow book or show canon (the Sand Snakes, to give an example, could follow either canon depending on the Doran player and so on), but for the most part we should begin in a point clear to most people.

More importantly, remember the King's Landing events have happened in a matter of a few days, which means that while the news of King Robert and Prince Joffrey's death are a matter of public knowledge the circumstances aren't, and the stories NPC's hear may vary. Be mindful of that.

Late 298 AL: Turn One:

General View:

The year is close to an end, and the future of Westeros is a huge interrogation mark. Robert and Joffrey Baratheon are dead, and amidst a confused royal succession Ned Stark sits the Iron Throne as the Lord Protector. With the Lannisters and the Tullys battling across the Riverlands and many Houses and even claimants preparing to take sides and raise their banners, it seems war is inevitable. What is to happen with Westeros?

Player Crisis:

Ned Stark:
-Prestige: 7/10 (Respected, but the death of Joffrey raises questions on his honor)
-Gold: 400,000 GD.
-Legitimacy: 5/10 (Unchallenged as Warden of the North, questionable as Regent)

-Despite your best intentions you have seized control of the capital through questionable dealings, and even worse, through the unexpected death of Prince Joffrey. Yet the hardest task lies ahead as Westeros is drawn into war. Can you and your House survive unscathed?

-The matter of the succession is the key decision to make, as you appear to wield the most power as Lord Protector. Lord Stannis could be the legal heir, yet as Littlefinger and others point out he is not a man to inspire loyalty and may be in league with a foreign religion. Lord Renly is a choice popular amongst many lords, yet one far behind the line of succession. And yet, for the sake of peace you have already crossed many lines. What will you do?

-Sansa and Arya have been forced to prepare for a journey, even as Sansa blames you for the death of Joffrey and proves inconsolable. Will you send both girls away, or retain them at the capital?

-While Catelyn still in road towards the North Winterfell is ruled by Robb, and with most of your guards dead you’re barely protected in the capital by a couple dozen men. Will you ask for support from your homeland?

Renly Baratheon:
-Prestige: 5/10
-Gold: 600.000 GD (Low gold reserves)
-Legitimacy: 10/10 (As Lord of Storm’s End)

-Greetings, my Lord. Against a potential strike by Cersei you’ve managed to ally with Stark and Baelish to seize the capital, and you are now one of the most powerful men in the capital. Can you use this position to climb to further power?

-The matter of the succession is a crucial as ever. Somewhat in fortune for you Prince Joffrey has found death and Prince Tommen is on the hands of the Lannisters, giving you a shot at claiming the throne against a far less appealing claimant in Stannis. With Ser Loras and other friends of yours pressing you to make a move and spare the Realm a bloody reign, what will you do?

-Like Stark, you currently sit in the capital with a few dozen guards and some allied knights and lords, although Yohn Royce and others have left in disgust at Joffrey’s death. Will you take moves regarding your personal safety and call the Stormlords to your aid?

Tywin Lannister:
-Prestige: 9/10 (“Rains of Castamere” effect)
-Gold: 5.000.000 GD.
-Legitimacy: 10/10 (Unchallenged as Lord of the Westerlands)

-Lord Tywin, the situation appears to have reached a critical point. Your son-in-law and your grandson have both met their deaths in King’s Landing, and now Stark rules over the capital. Can you steer House Lannister to triumph despite being in such a tough situation?

-After a hard journey Ser Arys Oakheart, Lancel and Tyrek Lannister bring Prince Tommen into your camp. While traumatized, the boy is unharmed, and is seen by most as Robert’s son and possibly his rightful heir. Will you proclaim Tommen as King?

-Alongside the Tullys, you’re one of the few houses to have its armies prepared for battle, your army and that of Ser Jaime ready to press a further invasion of the Riverlands. The state of your armies may give you an advantage, so use them wisely.

-Rumor has it that your son Tyrion has escaped the Eyrie after winning a proxy trial by combat against Lysa Arryn’s champion, yet he is still to show up. Will you take moves regarding the fate of lord Tyrion?

Stannis Baratheon:
-Prestige: 6/10 (Respected General)
-Gold: 100.000 GD (Low gold reserves)
-Legitimacy: 7/10 (Unquestionable Lord of Dragonstone, questionable claimant)

-Greetings, my Lord. Months of preparations in Dragonstone prove useful as you manage to raise a small army in the island, which coupled with the royal fleet and the use of sellsails give you a noteworthy force. Yet ravens tell stories of the death of your brother and even, of Prince Joffrey.

-With Robert’s death being certain the time appears to have come to claim the throne that you consider to be yours. How will you proceed on this matter, and how will you use the knowledge you are sure to possess?

-Ongoing debates take place amongst your advisors, with Ser Davos Seaworth and Maester Cressen advising you to play the game of politics, while Lady Selyse and the Lady Melisandre try to encourage you to use the faith of the Lord of Light to your advantage. There is also the matter of your vassals, who haven’t been summoned to Dragonstone yet.

Player Crisis:

Balon Greyjoy:
-Prestige: 4/10
-Gold: 100.000 GD
-Legitimacy: 8/10

-What is dead may never die, my Lord. Under your instruction the Iron Fleet has slowly rebuilt itself, and the Iron Islands are soon to be ready for war. With the King dead Westeros will surely collapse in blood, opening up a chance for the Ironborn to take revenge for the failed rebellion ten years ago.

Will you finally claim the Salt Throne again, my Lord, and sail with the brave Ironborn to take what is yours?

Edmure Tully:
-Prestige: 6/10
-Gold: 400.000 GD
-Legitimacy: 10/10

-With your father currently ill and virtually unconscious, it falls onto you as Acting Lord of Riverrun to defend your homeland against the Lannisters. With the recent deaths at the capital complicating things even further, it will be a tough road ahead for the Tullys.

-A large part of the Riverlands is being set on fire by Lannister riders, and after losing some men to the raids you’ve finally managed to raise an army in Riverrun. How will you defend the region and your people against the Lannister threat?

-On your rearguard House Frey remains uncommitted to the current war, with Lord Frey not making a move from The Twins. What will you do regarding the Freys, and can you sway them into marching their troops to repel the Lannisters?

Petyr Baelish:
-Prestige: 2/10
-Gold: 500.000 GD (fortune amassed via the treasury)
-Legitimacy: Doesn’t Apply

-Your skill at intrigue proves decisive in King’s Landing, as you sway Stark and Baratheon to move and seize power. Can you climb the ladder now that there’s chaos on the horizon?

-Through your control of the treasury and influence over the Gold Cloaks you are now one of the most powerful men in the capital, and one that has played a key (yet unknown to the world) role in the removal of Joffrey. Will you seek a reward for your efforts? And more importantly, who will you support on the struggles to come?

Varys:
-Prestige: 1/10
-Gold: 100.000 GD (personal funds, can acquire more through Pentos)
-Legitimacy: Doesn’t Apply

-While unpopular as ever, your decision to remain neutral and even aid Stark at times has proven useful, as you’ve survived the latest power struggle without problems. Can you continue to play your role wisely?

-Littlefinger appears to have taken the advantage over you by apparently winning the favor of Lord Stark and Lord Renly, but you have a veritable arsenal of resources at your display. How will you seek to influence the further course of events?

Khal Drogo:
-Prestige: 7/10
-Gold: 50.000 GD
-Legitimacy: Doesn’t Apply

-Disaster almost strikes after the departure of Viserys as an assassin sent by the one they call "the Usurper" is stopped at the last moment before poisoning the Khaleesi thanks to the bloodriders. Enraged, you boast in Vaes Dothrak that your son is to be the Stallion that rides the world, and pledge to conquer the chair his grandfather sat on. But can you delivero n your promise?

-The Khalassar is rested after celebrating in Vaes Dothrak and Daenerys is well enough to travel despite her pregnancy, but where shall the Khalassar go now? March to one of the Free Cities in search of ships in hostility? Raid for slavers to sell and trade for ships? Confront another of the Khalassars to enlarge your forces?

Player Crisis:

Viserys Targaryen:
-Prestige: 0/10 (“Beggar King”)
-Gold: 100 GD (+ 3 Dragon Eggs)
-Legitimacy: 3/10 (Legally he is Aerys’s heir, but not thought up as royal material)

-Greetings, Your Grace. After a tough journey Doreah and you have arrived in Qohor, finally reaching the safety of the Free Cities against the danger of the Dothraki hordes. Three possible destination await for you, all of them decisive in their own way. Are you to return to Pentos once again, to confront or ally with Magister Illyrio? Perhaps Volantis, in hope of nostalgia for the dragonlords to show you the road home? Or perhaps the Free City of Braavos, home to sellswords and banks that can  aid in your quest?

Daenerys may be lost to the horse lords, but with the demise of the Usurper the future appears bright for the first time, but can you seize the opportunity?

Olenna Redwyne:
-Prestige: 7/10 (Respected in the region as a formidable mind)
-Gold: 3.000.000 GD
-Legitimacy: 10/10 (Tyrell dominion over the Reach unchallenged)

-Greetings, my lady. Riders from King’s Landing bring over news of the events in the capital, with your own grandson playing a role right beside Lord Renly Baratheon.

-With the recent news it becomes evident the Reach will play a key role in the times to come. Your son Mace has taken a keen interest in Lord Renly thanks to Loras, but there are others who believe in the strength of other claimants as the Throne appears to be empty, and of course, that House Tyrell ought to play a role in the situation. Will you stay vigilant, take action and raise an army? And what will you do to keep Ser Loras and your family safe from any harm?

Doran Martell:
-Prestige: 7/10 (Widely respected)
-Gold: 800.000 GD
-Legitimacy: 10/10

-Prince Doran, good day. A raven from the capital brings momentous news. Not only is Robert Baratheon dead, but so is his heir. The times ahead may be some of the most decisive in recent memory.

-Prince Oberyn comes to you requesting that your begin raising the armies of Dorne to protect the Prince’s Pass and be prepared for any eventuality. Will you take moves regarding this?

-Princess Arianne appears to have taken odd companies by moving closer to the Sand Snakes, the Princess being reportedly very frustrated with your favoritism over Prince Quentyn and the lack of clarity on her role as heir and the marriage she awaits.

Walder Frey:
-Prestige: 4/10 (Disrespected)
-Gold: 200.000 GD
-Legitimacy: 10/10

-The ravens from Riverrun and King’s Landing are clear, my Lord. Not only is the war between the Tullys and the Lannisters growing worse, but the capital in chaos after the deaths of Robert and Joffrey Baratheon. Particularly due to the large amounts of family members in need of marriage, could this be an opportunity for House Frey?

-The Tullys appear had pressed to fight back against the Lannisters, a struggle in which the troops of House Frey could prove decisive. Will you aid your liege lord, or leave your troops at The Twins to keep your holdings safe?

-Thanks to your dominion over The Twins you control the road route towards the North, a key position should the Starks bring an army to the South or should the Southerners wish to march North. Use the advantages of The Twins wisely.

Late 298 AL: Aftermath:

The Young Stag takes over:

Seizing his opportunity in the wake of Prince Joffrey Baratheon's death, it was Lord Renly Baratheon who, with the aid of Lord Stark, Lord Baelish and Janos Slynt took control over King's Landing and despite some opposition won over the support of the Small Council in his bid to crown himself King. His acceptance of the Throne came with a declaration from Lord Stark denouncing Princes Joffrey, Tommen and Myrcella as the bastard scions of Ser Jaime Lannister, and claiming that late King Robert had appointed Renly as his heir.

The transfer of power and swift and yet violent. Ser Barristan Selmy proved unwilling to go along with Lord Renly seizing the crown and faced arrest by a City Watch patrol, slaughtering several guardsmen before disappearing into the crowds of the city. Grand Maester Pycelle, less lucky, was arrested by the Goldcloaks and thrown into the black cells, severely diminishing the Small Council as countless Lannister-aligned courtiers and administrative officers were arrested (such as Ser Aron Santagar) or thrown out of their positions. Now appointed King Renly called his banners and send countless ravens, appointing Ser Balon Swann and Ser Loras Tyrell and confirming Ser Mandon Moore to his Kingsguard, to be presided by Ser Loras as the new Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.

Having always been liked by the smallfolk many of the poorest citizens of King's Landing have embraced Renly and begun to whisper against Cersei and Lord Varys as the percieved murderers of late King Robert, but many of the merchants and higher citizens in the city remain either shocked or outright supportive of other claimants to the throne.

Kings and Lords Protectors arise:

Shortly on the heels of these events and faced with Renly's seizure of the crown (as rumours flew across the realm that he was unfit to rule and beholden to a foreign religion), Lord Stannis Baratheon wrote to the nobility of Westeros acknowledging the serious questions raised about the heritage of Tommen and Myrcella Baratheons, but denouncing Lord Stark and Lord Renly for their "dishonorable" actions. To the surprise of many, rather that openly declaring for the throne Lord Stannis merely claimed the title of Protector of the Realm, to the vague sympathy of many Lords.

But far from the only one, ravens flew from Casterly Rock and Pyke, further complicating the situation. Lord Tywin, clearly unwilling to bend to Stannis claims and Renly's coup had decided to crown Tommen Baratheon as King and as Robert's rightful son and heir, installing a court in Casterly Rock and seemingly becoming his Regent. And from Pyke, it was evident to many that House Greyjoy had not abandoned the ambitions it had been forced to seemingly yield after the Greyjoy Rebellion, for Balon Greyjoy was crowned in Pyke by the captains of the Iron Fleet as Balon IX of the independent Iron Islands for the second time.

War across the Riverlands:

As the power politics of King's Landing shifted so dramatically, the war across the Riverlands continued unabated between the Tullys and the Lannisters, with key consequences for both families. Not being able to tolerate the Lannister sack of the Riverlands, it was Lord Edmure who took the initiative first, taking his main army out of Riverrun and into a direct confrontation to the forces of Jaime Lannister.

Battle of the Golden Tooth: As Edmure marched to consolidate his forces Ser Jaime Lannister moved swiftly, attacking Lords Vance and Piper in the Golden Tooth. While both did their best to secure the retreat of their army in good condition the cavalry advantage of the Kingslayer made such a retreat impossible, and faced against the Lannister forces the Tully Army was crushed. Out of an initial force of 4,000 men not more than a thousand reached Edmure's vanguard, the injured (but alive) Lords Piper and Vance among them, the rest killed or scattered.

Battle of Wayfarer's Rest: Ser Jaime advancing further after his resounding victory at the Golden Tooth (despite heavy losses that amounted to well over 500 men), he met the army of Edmure Tully right outside the fortress of Wayfarer's Rest, in what amounted to a classic battle between both forces. The Tullys held their ground reasonably well and bloodied the first Lannister charges, until their right-flank (holding many stragglers from the Golden Tooth and peasants recruited on the march) began to collapse and opened an overture for the enemy cavalry. Ser Jaime himself led the charge that forced the collapse of the Tully army, Lord Edmure's retreating before it was too late to do so. As a result Wayfare's Rest has been surrounded and bypassed, leaving the Tullys scattered as Jaime faces an almost open road to Riverrun.

Tywin's Campaign: More cautious than Ser Jaime but also successful was Lord Tywin, who rapidly secured his supply train to the Westerlands and marched ahead, capturing High Heart and taking Lady Smallwood and her retinue prisoner before camping on the fortress, open routes to the West and towards Riverrun. More damaging was the deployment of over 4,000 men into strike units, who pillaged and burned all the way to the outskirts of Harrenhal and killed young Lord Lymond Goodbrook. One of such parties met the royal delegation of Lord Beric Dondarrion, crushing and killing most of the knights as Lord Beric seemingly disappeared.

The Lords take sides:

What followed in the next few days was incredibly relevant as ravens flew and the claimants asked for the support of the Lords of Westeros, a power play that could very well shape the conflict and decide its fate. The apparent winner of such struggle was clearly King Renly, as he received the open support of Ned Stark, Mace Tyrell and Edmure Tully, as well as most of the Stormlords. Such support, however, came with serious doubts amongst the vassals of his supporters concerning his seizure of the throne against the rights of Stannis and the role of Renly in the death of Prince Joffrey, coupled with the lack of evidence presented by Lord Stark concerning his claims.

Indeed, Northern and Riverlords such as House Blackwood and House Mormont have followed their Lords into battle while still questioning Renly's rights to the throne (against staunch Renly supporters such as the Pipers and the Brackens), the Stormlander Houses of Dondarrion, Connington and Swann have refused to committ to any claimant, and more important, many of Mace Tyrell's vassals have remained neutral regarding the succession due to different reasons, including House Hightower, House Oakheart (with Ser Arys Oakheart fighting for Tommen), House Meadows and House Redwyne (As Ser Hobber Redwyne was killed in the throne room struggle that cemented Renly's rule).

By contrast, Tywin Lannister has only secured the Westerlands for Tommen's rule, even if a degree of support for the young boy lays dormant in parts of the Crownlands and the Stormlands. Stannis Baratheon was hardly more successful, with only the vassals of Dragonstone and Houses Massey and Florent recognizing his Lord Protectorship and his now former vassal Monford Velaryon of Driftmark declaring for Renly. Most notorious is the cautious neutrality of several Lords, including Lady Lysa Arryn (who has refused to answer to ravens to the Eyrie) and Prince Doran Martell (who nonetheless has secured a key marriage match with Stannis Baratheon).

The area most divided by far has been the Crownlands, as while Houses Hayford, Stokeworth, Chelsted and Wendwater (and many other minor ones) have sword oaths to Renly major Houses like the Stauntons, Rosbys, Rykkers, Buckwells and the Lordlings of Crackclaw Point have refused to back a claimant so far. Having been cheered and acclaimed as King by his vassals, The Iron Islands stands firmly on the camp of Balon Greyjoy.

The arrest of Eddard Stark:

Renly's rule was furthered supported by the signing of a public agreement with House Tyrell of Highgarden, giving the Tyrells unprecedented power in return for their allegiance (a move that has angered some Renly supporters and annoyed a significant degree of Stormlander lords and knights). Indeed, soon Mace Tyrell and a large part of his family entered the capitol under the escort of 80 knights and guards, with Lord Mace, Lord Willas and now Lord Commander Loras taking over key positions in the Small Council as several key Stormlander knights and lords entered the city as well to support their King.

Having ended his term as the Hand of the King (serving Robert Baratheon for a few months and Renly Baratheon for a few weeks), Lord Stark called his banners and despite the serious misgivings of his vassals saw his son Robb led a large host towards the Neck. Seemingly to take a more firm control over military operations Lord Stark attempted to leave the capitol along with his household and his daughters Sansa and Arya. It was not to be, for Commander Janos Slynt (claiming to act under a higher authority) ordered Lord Stark to be detained for his safety.

With the refusal of Lord Stark to accept a fight broke out in the gates of the capitol as the Stark household attempted to escape, the City Watch killing over most of Stark's guards and taking the former Hand as a prisoner in the Red Keep. The situation took a worse turn as Sansa and Arya Stark were lost in the melee, and disappeared from the sight of the guards. Despite a desperate search from Commander Slynt, both girls remain missing as the news of Lord Stark's rest spread across the realm.

Renly, Stannis and Tommen Baratheon struggle to seize the Iron Throne as Balon Greyjoy declares independence. Supported by a large coalition that includes Houses Tyrell, Tully and Stark King Renly's rule nonetheless is far from the secure, and recently put into further question by the sudden and violent arrest of Ned Stark after his unexplained decision to leave King's Landing. In the east, Khal Drogo and Viserys Targaryen bolster their forces. How will the year end?

Player Crisis:

Ned Stark:
-Prestige: 5/10
-Gold: 380,000 GD.
-Legitimacy: 10/10 (Unchallenged as Warden of the North)

-Your Household in King's Landing is dead or captured, Arya and Sansa are missing, and now you lay a prisoner in your own quartiers in the Red Keep. How will you save yourself from this unexpected situation?

-Robb marches towards the South in haste, but your vassals remain confused over the situation and your support for Renly, with the end result that recruitment has been sloppy and the Lords constantly challenge and dispute Robb the leadership of the army. And yet, Robb's skill has seen the small Northern Army close to the Neck. What should he do?

-Catelyn arrives in White Harbor after a disappointing trip to the Eyrie and guarded by the Blackfish, and realizes just how out of control the situation is becoming. What should Catelyn do?

Renly Baratheon:
-Prestige: 6/10
-Gold: 550.000 GD (Low gold reserves)
-Crown Debt: 6.000.000 GD (3m to House Lannister, 2m to the Iron Bank, 0.5m to the Faith, 0.5m to House Tyrell)
-Legitimacy: 4/10 (As King)

-You have managed to crown yourself, and now you sit the Iron Throne. But be careful, your Grace, the struggle is far from over.

-Forces under Lord Estermont reach the Kingswood and are soon to reach the capitol. And yet, many Stormlords are questioning the arrest of Ned Stark and the excessive power handed over to the Tyrells. Will you try to calm their concerns?

-Ser Barristan Selmy has run away and killed several guards, which creates a problem in the horizon. Ser Mandon Moore, however, has sworn his loyalty, same as the Crownlander lords who today arrive to swear their oaths. Grand Maester Pycelle and Ser Aron Santagar are now in chains alongside Ser Preston Greenfield, what is to be done about them?

-You are now promised to Margaery Tyrell, a marriage that promises to unite a large part of the South alongside Houses Tyrell and Baratheon. With Margaery arriving into the city with her father, will you hold the wedding right away or postpone the marriage until it becomes safer?

Tywin Lannister:
-Prestige: 9/10
-Gold: 5.950.000 GD.
-Legitimacy: 10/10 (Unchallenged as Lord of the Westerlands)

-Lord Tywin, your forces reach their first decisive victories in the Riverlands, making up for a chance to strike at Riverrun. While Renly currently holds the most allies, can you turn the tide of the upcoming war?

-One of your ranging parties managed to find Lord Tyrion and his personal guard of sellswords and Vale tribesmen. He is now in route to Casterly Rock.

-Your emissary to the Iron Bank is recieved courteously, but the Bank's Directors are unsure of committing to the cause of Tommen against such odds. They imply support could come at some later point, assuming the cause you defend has grown to include more allies and supporters.

-Many of your allies are thrown out of office and arrested, including Grand Maester Pycelle. What will you do to save Cersei and Myrcella as their remain Renly's prisoners?

-Most assume you are now Regent to Tommen, although you do not take an official title. Will you be assembling a Small Council for Tommen, as many of your vassals ask you to?

Stannis Baratheon:
-Prestige: 6/10 (Respected General)
-Gold: 100.000 GD (Low gold reserves)
-Legitimacy: 7/10 (Unquestionable Lord of Dragonstone, questionable claimant)

-Most of your vassals have decided to answer your call, including House Massey of the Crownlands alongside Houses Bar Emmon, Sunglass and Celtigar, with only Lord Velaryon and Driftmark going for Renly. Your forces are ready and better trained now, is this the time to strike?

-Shireen has been betrothed to Prince Trystane Martell, which is taken as an encouraging sign by your supporters. Will you be taking steps to send the Princess outside of Dragonstone, or should she remain here?

-Maester Cressen and Ser Davos press on to you the need to seek further allies, with Cressen insisting that many Lords in the Vale could still rise for your and Ser Davos offering to tour the Stormlands and the Crowlands to enlist more Lords. End of 298 AL: Aftermath (I)Sad

The Reign of Renly Baratheon:

In control of King's Landing, Renly Baratheon's Reign continues massing allies and troops as he holds the strongest position on the board, one used to his advantage.

Against all expectations, Renly decided against a large-scale wedding, a decision that while harmful to his prestige is compensated by increasing volumes of food entering the city courtesy of House Tyrell, preventing famine for the time being. Sweeping changes continue to take place in the administration of the city, and among the many positions distributed, Lord Selwyn Tarth has become Master of Ships, Lord Eldon Estermont a Military Advisor, Ronnet Connington the King's Justice, Monford Velaryon the Commander of the City Port and a War Council has been formed under the close guidance and advice of Lords Tarth, Caron, Staedmon, Buckler and Ser Loras Tyrell. More decisively, Lord Baelish has received the shocking reward of Casterly Rock should Lord Tywin be defeated, a move that has galvanized the Westerlands against Renly and angered many in the capital who see Baelish as undeserving of such a grand title.

While the smallfolk remain reasonably supportive of Renly and his new Queen Margaery the relationship with the merchants and the guilds continues to go through a negative road in terms of negotiations. Furthermore, the peace has been disturbed not only by the recent attacks on the Goldcloaks by the pro-Stannis Antler Men faction, but by the extensive search by the City Watch for Arya and Sansa Stark, stirring up tensions as a mysterious knight known as “The Stranger’s Knight” has fought and killed many of Janos Slynt’s men to the increasing support of people living in Flea Bottom. Tensions with the Goldcloaks have increased as well as rumours spread through the capital that Janos Slynt and even Lord Stark may have had a hand in King’s Robert demise, fuelling uncertainty as to what exactly happened with Robert and Joffrey Baratheon.

Further offers of patronage and appeals to the neutral Lords have flown from King's Landing with good results. Even as many Houses in the Crownlands refuse to commit until the conflict appears clearer, Lord Rosby was glad to accept an offer of becoming Lord Treasurer (and for all effects Master of Coin) and bring Rosby into Renly's side. More successful were appeals on the Stormlands, as Houses Connington and Swann bend the knee with the Dondarrions willing to do so should Lord Beric reappear. Despite Lady Arya and Lady Sansa not been found it appears King Renly struck a surprising reconciliation with Lord Stark, the King throwing a feast to the Stormlords to clear the matter (with success) and Lord Stark continuing to defend Renly on his proclamations as he rode towards the Riverlands to take command on the war against the Lannisters.

In the meantime, massive efforts have been deployed to fortify the capital in case of a siege, King’s Landing now guarded by the Stormlords and in the future for Lord Tarly, currently on the march from the Reach.

Alliances for the Lord Protector:

Not having left his island-fortress of Dragonstone over the past few months amidst great speculation, Lord Protector Stannis Baratheon continues to take steps to have his Regency recognized by the realm and add allies to his cause. A delegation from his unlikely new allies in Dorne arrived via sea bringing Prince Oberyn Martell, Prince Trystane Martell, and three of the bastard daughters of Oberyn: Nymeria, Obara and Tyrene Sand, known to many as the “Sand Snakes”. Shortly afterwards an incredibly lavish wedding was held on the island amidst the Dornishmen and the Lords of the Narrow Sea, uniting Trystane Martell and Shireen Baratheon in marriage and proving an interesting contrast to the lacklustre event held by Renly on the capital.

Envoys from the Lord Protector have been sent into the Stormlands and the Vale with mixed results. In the Stormlands opinion consolidates in support of Renly, although Ser Davos Seaworth was able to persuade House Wylde to declare for Lord Stannis. It was on the Vale were Ser Justin Massey found more success, with many relevant vassals of the Arryn such as Lord Yohn Royce stating that the Vale of Arryn should consider supporting Lord Stannis. These Lords have decided not to make a formal declaration, but it believed Lady Lysa Arryn is being heavily pressured by her vassals for the Vale to enter the war.

War across the Riverlands:

Already heavily damaged by the past victories of the Lannisters as the Riverlands are ruthlessly sacked, the situation took an incredibly dramatic turn against Houses Stark and Tully, placing Lord Tywin Lannister at an incredibly advantageous situation to crush his foes in the area against expectations of a long war in the region.

Siege of Riverrun: Faced against the possibility of fighting two Lannister armies and being outnumbered Lord Edmure ordered a retreat towards Seagard, a move which while angering some of the Rivelords currently seeing their lands burn saved his army and bolstered his forces with significant reinforcements from the area, stragglers and House Mallister. Alas, it fell onto Jaime Lannister to launch an offensive in the area and defeat a large part of the remnants of the Riverrun garrison by drawing them out, laying siege to the elderly Lord Tully, Ser Desmond Grell and a few hundred men in the castle.

Harrenhal falls, Lord Stark is captured: Lord Tywin took the initiative as well, his armies plundering all the way across the lands of Vances and Brackens before striking at Harrenhal and crushing the forces of Lady Whent. In full possession of the impressive fortress, Lord Tywin’s riders have taken control of much of the Eastern Riverlands, capturing countless castles and laying siege to others as resisting forces and ambushed and killed. But in a stroke of luck for Lord Tywin only attributable to the Gods themselves, Lord Eddard Stark decided to ride with his small entourage to Fairmarket rather than take the long and safer route to The Twins, putting him right ahead of the Lannister vanguard of Ser Damon Marbrand. To the surprised look of the Lannister War Council in Harrenhal, Lord Stark was presented before them by Ser Damon as their key prisioner.

Ironborn Campaign: To make matters worse for the Riverlands, it was then than the self-proclaimed King Balon Greyjoy ordered his force to strike, a large part of the Ironborn fleet and no less than 10,000 of its raiders and warriors sailed under the able command of Victarion Greyjoy. The force from the Iron Islands crushed the coastal defences of House Mallister across the Cape of Eagles, capturing the entire region and stopping short of marching on Seagard as plunder and salt wives find their way into the coffers of Pyke.

End of 298 AL: Aftermath (II)Sad

The Red Wedding:

Amidst this complicated situation, Lord Robb Stark and the army of the North had finally reached The Twins, needing to cross the bridge in order to rapidly relieve Edmure Tully and the Riverlords against the Lannisters. Lord Walder Frey entered negotiations with Robb and then with Lord Eddard Stark himself, who believing that Lord Frey needed to be appeased in order to secure his loyalty to the Tullys offered Robb’s hand in marriage for one of the Frey girls. Lord Walder seized the opportunity to secure the betrothal of his young daughter Arwyn Frey to Robb Stark, and under the insistence of Lord Stark that the wedding be held right away both were married at The Twins under a large-scale celebration.

However, the entire wedding was an elaborate ruse on behalf of Lord Frey, who gave the command for the Freys inside the castle to ambush and capture Robb Stark and his lords. A large-scale battle broke out across The Twins as the ambush was successful, capturing Robb Stark and key allies and bannermen like Eddard and Torrhen Karstark, Theon Greyjoy, Helman Tallhart, Hallis Mollen, Lord Galbart Glover, Lord Medger Cerwyn and Lord Hallis Hornwood. Killed in the melee were Rickard Karstark, Maege Mormont, Greatjon Umber, Robin Flint, Donnel Locke, Owen Norrey and Robb Stark’s direwolf Grey Wind. Grey Wind, however was released long enough to kill several Frey soldiers and allow a group of Stark bannermen to escape after failing to retrieve Robb Stark, with Dacey Mormont, Harrion Karstark, Daryn Hornwood and Smalljon Umber crossing the river and reaching the Stark camps.

It was here than the Frey levies under Black Walder Frey launched an assault on the Stark forces under the leadership of Roose Bolton and Robett Glover, who had been warned too late. A fight broke out across the night as the camp was set on fire, scattering the Stark armies as Glover and Bolton took the remaining forces and staged a daring and successful retreat to the Neck. In the coming days of the utterly shocking and brutal action ravens flooded the North, warning the Northern houses to stay away to spare the lives of their captured nobles, and across the Riverlands, stating that Lord Frey was to be in control of the region now, a move denounced bitterly by the entire group of Riverlords outside of House Vypren, who declared for the Freys in a desperate attempt to prevent the sacking of their lands.

The Pretenders converge in Volantis:

Having seemingly secured his legacy with the birth of Rhaego Targaryen, his son, Khal Drogo has moved his khalassar across the Dothraki Sea in search of the route to enter Westeros, destroying smaller khalassars and khals as his forces extend to possibly 50,000 riders, one of the largest Dothraki armies ever seen. Eyeing Volantis as a potentially useful place, Khal Drogo sent a unit of riders to proclaim the birth of Rhaego and try to win the Volantene Triachs to his cause, with the end result of the Volantenes sending a harsh reply to Drogo which was answered by the Dothraki unit with the pillage and burning of several villages on the frontiers of Volantis-held territory. In response, the Triarchs have begun buying sellsword companies to defend the city should Khal Drogo march straight at them. It’s in this context that the forces of Viserys Targaryen – much stronger on magic after a travel through the dark Demon Road – approach the city via the coastal roads, on which could be a fateful meeting.

A New Grand Maester:

On account of Grand Maester Pycelle currently languishing on a cell in the Red Keep the Citadel began preparations for the election of a new Grand Maester, beginning the first ballots with Archmaester Gormon Tyrell as the clear favorite. However, the attempt by House Tyrell to pressure and influence the Citadel into choosing Gormon drew resentment by the Maesters, many of them concerned about adding another member of House Tyrell into the Small Council given their current influence. In the end, a consensus candidate rose in the final ballots and reached and outright majority. As a result, Grand Maester Erreck now marches for King’s Landing to seat on the Small Council, with a formal request for Pycelle’s release.

The Pretenders in the East:

Drogo, Khal of the Drogo Khalassar (Dkrol)

General View:

A red comet shows up across Westeros and Essos, bringing doubts and omens.

Renly Baratheon consolidates his alliance with the Tyrells as Stannis Baratheon and Tywin Lannister seek new allies. Houses Stark and Tully continue to suffer blow after blow as they bear the worse part of the war, Lord Stark captured by the Lannisters and Robb Stark and many of the Northern Lords now the hostages of Walder Frey. With the Greyjoy Fleet on the move and the Lords of the Vale facing doubts, the war grows more complicated. And in the East, Viserys and Drogo converge on Volantis in what might be a fateful meeting. How will the next year play out?

Player Crisis:

Catelyn Tully:
-Prestige: 4/10
-Gold: 340,000 GD.
-Legitimacy: 5/10 (Questionable Lady Regent, angry bannermen)

-As you arrive in Winterfell with Ser Rodrik and the Blackfish ravens arrive from the Riverlands bringing news of the fate of Robb and Ned. House Stark still holds the larger part of its military power intact despite the Red Wedding, but your family has suffered blow after blow. Can you save House Stark?

-The imprisonment of Ned and the disappearance of Arya and Sansa have damaged the prestige of House Stark as many of its vassal Lords denounce Renly Baratheon as a tyrant, particularly the new lords of Houses Mormont and Umber. And yet, there is confusion as to what exactly should House Stark do next.

-Roose Bolton and Robett Glover have saved more than half of the Northern Army in Moat Cailin, and they expect many wounded and stragglers to join soon. Further forces have been gathered in Winterfell, and Houses like the Manderlys hold their full strength intact. How will you deploy the military might of the North?

-The horror of the Red Wedding spreads through the North and turns into sheer hate against the Freys, many Northerners prepared to burn The Twins to the ground after the treason of the Freys. And yet, they hold your son and several key Northern Lords and heirs. How will you deal with the Freys?

Renly Baratheon:
-Prestige: 6/10
-Gold: 510.000 GD
-Crown Debt: 6.000.000 GD (3m to House Lannister, 2m to the Iron Bank, 0.5m to the Faith, 0.5m to House Tyrell) (Lannister debt forgiven by House Baelish, maintained by the Lannisters)
-Legitimacy: 5/10

-You've managed to lower the nearby tension of Stark's arrest and brought most of the Stormlords firmly into your side, but Stannis and Tywin prove to be persistent foes. Can you secure your reign to last?

-The City Watch of King's Landing proves troublesome these days as tension rise. Furthermore, the actions of the Antler Men and The Stranger's Knight prove focal points of resistance even as most of the city appears to stand with you.

-Constant pleas of help arrive from the Riverlands, currently ruthlessly occupied by the Lannister armies. Will you be taking moves to aid the Riverlords despite the proximity of Stannis in Dragonstone?

-Rumours continue to spread concerning the matter of the royal succession, particularly as different parts of the smallfolk blame Slynt, Varys or even Stark of Robert's death, and many Lords doubt the Hound's role in Joffrey death and the reasons behind Stannis elimination of the line of succession. Can you reassure the realm of the motives of your rule?

Tywin Lannister:
-Prestige: 10/10
-Gold: 6.020.000 GD.
-Legitimacy: 10/10

-Congratulations, Lord Tywin. From a troubled position after Joffrey's death and Cersei's arrest, you have almost crushed the Riverlords and captured Eddard Stark. Can you continue to defy the odds?

-With Eddard Stark now a prisoner in the cells of Harrenhal you finally have a truly kep hostage to trade, which might prove useful in ending the war with the Starks or at least bringing Cersei and Myrcella back to Casterly Rock. What will you do with Lord Stark?

-TYrion has settled in Casterly Rock and begun taking care of matters, assembling a larger court for Tommen and preparing for the creation of a Small Council. Who will you appoint to serve Tommen's rule?

-Your armies now hold most of the Riverlands and are close to capturing Riverrun and closing the Kingsroad, although the Starks and Tullys still hold onto large armies of their own and Renly's armies grow large in King's Landing. How will you handle the upcoming campaign?

Stannis Baratheon:
-Prestige: 7/10
-Gold: -60.000 GD
-Legitimacy: 7/10

-Shireen has been wed, although for obvious reasons the marriage isn't to be consummated until a few years in the future. On the other hand, such a lavish wedding has exhausted the coffers of House Baratheon and left you in debt, some arguing you could ask for a dowry from the Martells to cover the debts. Can you find new sources of gold?

-House Wylde in the Stormlands declares for you, although most of the Stormlords stay behind Renly. Some Lords of the Vale have proved more receptive, although the lack of victories and movement makes potential allies doubtful of whether your bid for power can succeed at all. What will you do?

-Conflict rises in Dragonstone as Lady Selyse, Lady Melisandre and their followers burn religious images, which causes tension with key bannermen like the pious Lord Sunglass. The conflict threatens to cause division inside the forces on the island, how will you react?

Player Crisis:

Balon Greyjoy:
-Prestige: 5/10
-Gold: 150.000 GD
-Legitimacy: 9/10

-More than 50,000 GD are sacked from the Cape of Eagles, and more could come later as Victarion Greyjoy has crushed the enemy forces in the area. On the other hand, Victarion is now too close to the Tully armies and to the forces at The Twins. Will you prosecute the campaign in the Riverlands despite being at a disadvatange in land terms?

-Theon was injured in the Red Wedding, but he is one of those who survived and was taken hostage. Will you try to save him from House Frey?

Edmure Tully:
-Prestige: 3/10
-Gold: 340.000 GD
-Legitimacy: 8/10

-Against the desire of your bannermen to fight, you've managed to save your army and march North despite Lord Tywin sacking most of the Riverlands. But now, hostile forces remain south under Tywin and the Kingslayer, to the north with the Freys, and to the west under the Greyjoys. It will take true skill as a Lord to survive this situation.

-The Red Wedding and the rising of the Freys is rejected across the Riverlands, although at least one Houses has decided to back them in the hope of a swift end to the war. How will you cement your rule despite the negative odds on the war?

-Your Lords remain desperate over the need for reinforcements, some sending raven after raven to the capital asking for help, some asking you to find new allies. Some even suggest offering yourself in marriage, all for the sake of an army to defeat the Lannisters.

Petyr Baelish:
-Prestige: 5/10 (appointed Warden of the West)
-Gold: 430.000 GD
-Legitimacy: 0/10 (not acknowledged by a single Westerlands Lord)

-Your ship lands in the Baelish Keep with ease, and your escort believes they can reach the Eyrie in a few days. Will you finally make the move and reach Lady Lysa?

-You have been appointed Warden and Lord of Casterly Rock, but the move has angered those feeling themselves more worthy of the title, the vassals of the Westerlands, and even many on the Vale. Can you find a way to make your titles more effective?

Varys:
-Prestige: 1/10
-Gold: 70.000 GD
-Legitimacy: Doesn’t Apply

-As rumours spread of many culprits you've spared for the time being of further hate from the smallfolk, although under a Small Council of Stormlords and Tyrells the situation is one that moves rapidly. Can you secure favor and survival in such trying times?

Khal Drogo:
-Prestige: 7/10
-Gold: 130.000 GD
-Legitimacy: Doesn’t Apply

-With your son and heir born and the Khalassar reaching upwards of 50,000 men you reach the border with Volantis, which has soundly rejected your advances. Will you press ahead towards Volantis and Viserys, and seek revenge?

-Tyrosh is willing to provide you with a fleet by handing over 100,000 slaves, of which you have over 40,000 from Sarnor walking besides the Khalassar.

Player Crisis:

Viserys Targaryen:
-Prestige: 0/10
-Gold: 50,000 GD (+ 2 Dragon Eggs)
-Legitimacy: 3/10

-Thanks to Tantalus and Illyrgue and the dark magic of the Demon Road your skills in dark and fire magic increase, although they remain that of an apprentice. You and your Unsullied army approach the road to Volantis fast, and it is said the Dothraki might be marching on the city soon. What will you do?

Olenna Redwyne:
-Prestige: 8/10
-Gold: 2.890.000 GD
-Legitimacy: 10/10

-Greetings, my lady.

-House Tyrell rises fast despite your moves at the Citadel backfiring, with your family conquering the Handship, the royal consort, the Kingsguard, and several positions. While some believe House Tyrell keeps too much for itself, the prestige of your House is as high as it as been for the past couple of decades.

-The purge of the Lannister supporters in King's Landing has left many of the lower officers empty, even as the high officers are replaced with Stormlanders. Will you seek to expand your influence across the administration and guilds of King's Landing?

Doran Martell:
-Prestige: 7/10
-Gold: 780.000 GD
-Legitimacy: 10/10

-Prince Doran, good day.

-Your family arrangements have proved most successful, bringing some much needed peace into the Martell household.

-Oberyn trains daily in Dragonstone, his forces having reached a clear superior level.

-Your envoys have reached the Free Cities in search of the information you seek, and they believe at this stage that answers can be found on the Free City of Lys.

Walder Frey:
-Prestige: 2/10
-Gold: 100.000 GD
-Legitimacy: 8/10

-The Red Wedding proves a success as the Starks retreat and you hold most valuable hostages in Robb Stark, Theon Greyjoy and others. How will you handle the leverage that they bring?

-While you have attempted to spread your power, most Houses of Westeros have reacted in a horrified way to your breaking of guest rights, causing a steep drop of prestige for House Frey as it is now percieved as untrustworthy. House Vypren declares for you to see if the killing and burning will stop, but can you build a lasting ground for power and influence?

-Your agents in Essos have successfully hired the Long Lances of Gylo Rhegan and the Company of the Crescent Moon of Cao Mai, and they are on their way to The Twins.

Early 299 AL: Aftermath (I)Sad

The Death of Renly Baratheon:

Hoping to consolidate further support and cement his position against his brother Stannis King Renly threw himself to substantial activity, reinforcing the defenses of Driftmark and preparing an expedition against House Massey while stripping said house of all its titles, all a reward to now Lord Janos Slynt. This was complemented with the popular move of taking the City Watch away from Slynt's hands, placing them in the command of Ser Donnel Swann as the City Watch attempted to end the strife caused by the Antler Men and particularly by the Stranger's Knight. Complimented with a continuous stream of songs being spread towards lords and smallfolk pertaining Stannis's religious tendencies the capital appeared more at ease in the outside, although a storm was about to explode.

It was one fateful night that Ser Guyard Morrigen and Brienne of Tarth found King Renly near a balcony, having been stabbed to death with a sword., putting an end to a reign of a mere five months. The news led to confusion as the Small Council would not agree on a course to follow, a matter made worse by the rising of the Antler Men in several areas of the capital, demanding for Lord Stannis to be recognized as the Lord Protector (with the conspicuous absence of the Stranger’s Knight, disappeared without a trace a few days ago). The pressure mounting on the Stormlords and with Willas Tyrell and Selwyn Tarth absent, Lord Estermont and Ser Donnel chose to declare the city for Stannis Baratheon, closing the gates to the approaching host of Randyll Tarly and placing Queen Margaery, Lord Mace and Ser Loras Tyrell under protective custody in the Red Keep (not prisoners, but confined to a wing in the fortress).

While some Renly supporters such as Brienne of Tarth have denounced this move and either disappeared or left the capitol, the Stormlords have been quick to change sides as Lord Stannis is now by rights the Lord of Storm's End, the only exceptions being the headless House Dondarrion, House Selmy, and more importantly House Penrose, with Cortnay Penrose holding Storm's End and a sizable host currently uncommitted.

Ceasefire in Highgarden:

With the Lannisters and the Starks at each others throats as the Riverlands burned, the conflict appeared to have reached a potential opportunity for peace, as the capture of Lord Eddard Stark gave the Lannisters a negotiation edge. In the end, it was the unexpected appearance of House Tyrell as a "peacemaker" that dramatically changed events, as Highgarden was offered as a place to negotiate a ceasefire to end the bloody conflict. Negotiating, promising and even arranging marriages Houses Stark, Lannister and Tully were eventually persuaded of the merits of a ceasefire, suspending hostilities on a temporary basis as messengers are sent to Highgarden with the Tyrells as their host.

Alas, such info can seldom remain in private, and as the knowledge of the truce spreads many houses have expressed their opposition to the negotiations. Less pronounced in the Westerlands as the area has not suffered from war itself, many Riverlords are disaffected with Lord Edmure to consider making peace with the Lannisters after what they've done to the Riverlands (particularly the Blackwoods and the Houses more to the South). The sentiment is worse in the North, as Mormonts, Umbers and other major Houses denounce the Lannisters as the masterminds of the Red Wedding, and see Lady Stark as having little authority to command them to stand down after losing so many of their family members.

War across the Riverlands:

With the Lannisters triumphant in the region and negotiations underway between the different armies on behalf of House Tyrell, the initiative went to the offensives against House Frey and the ongoing assault of the Ironborn in the Cape of Eagles:

Siege of The Twins: With Edmure Tully leaving Lord Blackwood to attend to the siege as he travels for Highgarden, the combined forces of Houses Tully and Stark marched on The Twins on both directions, crushing a few hundred men sent by Walder Frey to rally nearby towns and repulsing an expedition towards the Kingsroad by Black Walder Frey. Showing no mercy and taking no prisioners, Tytos Blackwood and Robett Glover have placed both Tully and Stark armies on both sides of The Twins, and demanded Lord Frey's surrender.

Ironborn Campaign: As even more men and ships are raised from the Iron Islands, the next step in the Ironborn invasion of the Riverlands was cemented by the continued offensive of Victarion Greyjoy, who after the Tully army marched on The Twins took the initiative once again by marching on Seagard, defeating Lord Mallister and forcing him to enclose himself in the fortress, now under siege by the Greyjoys as the port is blocked and further plunder finds its way into Pyke.

Early 299 AL: Aftermath (II)Sad

Marriages, Warnings and Alliances:

New alliances are born as the crisis of the Realm becomes more and more relevant and hard to solve, and new marriage matches are created. A sign of this was the arrival of Shireen Baratheon, the Sand Snakes and Trystane and Oberyn Martell back into Sunspear for the eventful marriage of Arianne Martell and Willas Tyrell, a shocking announcement which, while welcome by conciliatory figures like Lord Willas and Prince Oberyn has brought criticism both in the Reach and Dorne by several of its leading bannermen and even family members. Delayed by the winds and the increasing difficulty of travel Lord Willas has just arrived into Sunpear, learning the news of Renly's death and his family's custody as Princess Arianne remain ambivalent about the marriage, pressured by anti-Tyrell forces to refuse the match.

An equally relevant wedding took place in the Vale of Arryn, as Lord Petyr Baelish arrived into the Eyrie to court and successfully gain the hand of Lady Lysa Arryn. Having known each other since they were young the Vale Lords were astounded to see Lady Lysa yielding to Lord Baelish almost immediately, insisting on a private wedding that had made of Lord Baelish the "Lord Regent consort" of sorts in the Vale. While this move has doubtlessly annoyed many in the proud Andal nobility in the Vale and Lord Baelish has seemingly lost his royal backing in Renly, his prestige grows and he stands a serious chance of dramatically influencing the Vale's politics through Lady Lysa.

Similarly, it seems the ongoing conflict is causing more and more responses in Essos itself, as the Iron Bank of Braavos issued a letter to the Lords of Westeros expressing its concern with the "erasing" of the Lannister debt to the Crown by House Baelish. While uninterested with said debt itself, the Iron Bank warns that not repaying the Crown's debt to the Bank will result in grave results.

The Battles of Volantis:

As Khal Drogo's host marched on the territories under Volantene control Viserys Targaryen managed an audience with the Volantene Triarchs, pledging his Unsullied to the defense of the city alongside quite a few promises for Volantis in exchange for support, a proposal which the ruling Triarchs chose to accept. Welcomed by the High Priest Benerro into the Temple of the Lord of Light of Volantis Viserys stood in the city as Red Fist and his Unsullied regiment marched with the Volantene levies and a few sellsword companies to the defense of Volantis, preparing a mysterious ceremony with dramatic consecuences for the future.

In the meantime, Khal Drogo's careful planning led to the Dothraki hordes pulling off almost flawless attacks and sackings in the colonies of Volon Therys and Valysar, taking thousands upon thousands of slaves to be marched into Tyrosh. The horded followed soon afterwards, burning and sacking large extensions of land and weakening the outer territories of Volantis as the forces of Khal Drogo and the Volantenes marched to battle each other. Dividing more than 48,000 riders into separate companies to sack the outskirts of the city in different companies the 35,000 strong army of Volantis under Tarquin Maegyr (brother to the Triarch) faced several battles under the sun, crushing some of the smaller Dothraki units thanks to the help of the Unsullied yet finding it hard to react fast enough to the speed of the horselords, even with the aid of sellsword companies. The situation was made worse when Tarquin Maegyr's personal guard was outflanked by Drogo himself, who killed the Triach's brother in single combat and took his head.

The battle itself was decided when over 9,000 Dothraki riders attempted to rush towards the main gates to enter the city itself, being met by the Unsullied unit of Red Fist. Eight charges they launched, and eight charges the Unsullied resisted, even as many were cut down and their ranks grew smaller. It took a counterattack by young scions of the Old Blood and a few regiments by the Tiger cloaks to force the Dothraki to retreat, ending their chance at entering the city. Faced with mounting casualties and the size of the walls, Khal Drogo retreated during the cover of the night, dozens of thousands of slaves being forced to march with his horde. Volantis was saved and thousands of Dothraki riders were dead, but at the price of the Triarch's brother, most of the Volantene host and the sack of its colonies in the Rhoyne.

Return of the Dragons:

As the battle took place Viserys Targaryen was determined to put to good use his newfound knowledge of blood magic and fire magic, even as his powers were barely awakened at the time. Holding a ceremony resembling that of the fated Tragedy of Summerhall he offered the blood mage Tantalus and Doreah as sacrifices under the sight of the Red Comet, placing his dragon eggs and the sacrifices under a bright flame which almost engulfed Viserys. To the widespread shock of the Red Priest Illyrgue and even High Priest Benerro a miracle took place at the Temple, for once the flames went by and amidst the smoke and ashes two dragons were born. As Benerro and Illyrgue knelt, it was the first time dragons were born to a Targaryen prince in over a 150 years.

General View:

As the red comet spreads across the skies many see it as an omen of bloodshed, as plenty of blood is spilled.

Despite gathering a large array of allies and armies sworn to him Renly Baratheon is now dead, his allies in the capital hailing Stannis as their new liege. Tullys, Lannisters and Stark stop their fight as House Tyrell attempts to broker a truce, their rise to power suddenly stopped by the death of Renly and the situation of many family members in King's Landing. Lord Baelish continues his steady rise to power as the Ironborn prepare further campaigns.

In the East, Khal Drogo proves his might against the Volantenes as he prepares a deal with Tyrosh, and Viserys Targaryen realizes the legend by waking up the dragons from their sleep.

Player Crisis:

Catelyn Tully:
-Prestige: 2/10
-Gold: 320.000 GD.
-Legitimacy: 3/10 (Bannermen increasingly angry)

-The announcement of a potential truce with the Lannisters angers many in the North, and while the Northern Lords are glad to siege The Twins to avenge their families, many now question your position as Lady Regent and your intentions to peace. Can you keep your bannermen from becoming more and more displeased?

-A Great Council of sorts is to be held in Highgarden to secure a truce, and your brother Lord Edmure will go himself to represent House Tully. Who will you send to represent House Stark?

-Lord Manderly sends a missive to Winterfell along with one of his sons, asking permission to begin building a fleet for the North for the wars to come. Will you grant him permission?

Tywin Lannister:
-Prestige: 9/10
-Gold: 6.000.000 GD.
-Legitimacy: 9/10

-The negotiations are soon to take place in Highgarden, displeasing some vassals but reassuring others that the Westerlands will emerge strong. Who will go to negotiate a peace on behalf of your House?

-The death of Renly removes a powerful claimant and improves Tommen's position, even if the rumours about his heritage damage his prestige greatly. How will you seize the opportunity this presents?

-Tyrion has settled in Casterly Rock and begun taking care of matters, assembling a larger court for Tommen and preparing for the creation of a Small Council. Who will you appoint to serve Tommen's rule? (from past turn)

Stannis Baratheon:
-Prestige: 7/10
-Gold: 200.000 GD (some of Renly's fortune is inherited, the rest is in Storm's End)
-Legitimacy: 7/10
-Crown Debt: 6.000.000 GD (3m to House Lannister, 2m to the Iron Bank, 0.5m to the Faith, 0.5m to House Tyrell) (Lannister debt forgiven by House Baelish, maintained by the Lannisters)

-The unexpected death of Renly brings great fortune to you as the Stormlands pledge their loyalty and your uncle Lord Estermont holds King's Landing for you, your supporters asking you to enter the capital as soon as possible. Will you sail away for King's Landing?

-One of the biggest potential problems is the presence of several members of House Tyrell in King's Landing, now under custody as Randyll Tarly keeps watch outside the city. What will you do with the Tyrells?

-The troops that were to sail to Driftmark are prepared, as the Velaryons have become the only naval resistance left in Blackwater Bay.

-You've avoided a struggle between Lord Sunglass as those loyal to Lady Selyse, but the conflict is far from over. Songs spread through the land of your support for a foreign religion, harming your image not only in King's Landing, but before key Lords in areas like the Vale of Arryn.

Player Crisis:

Balon Greyjoy:
-Prestige: 5/10
-Gold: 180.000 GD (further plunder)
-Legitimacy: 9/10

-A letter and a box arrives into Pyke. The letter reads "I will not be ignored", and the box contains one of Theon's fingers. Asha (we'll go for Asha and not Yara) demands you act to save Theon, but what will you do?

-Victarion sieges Seagard, but the castle is built to last and it could be a prolonged siege, made further complicated by the presence of the Tully and Stark armies. How will you continue the campaign?

Edmure Tully:
-Prestige: 2/10
-Gold: 320.000 GD
-Legitimacy: 7/10

-To some the news of potential peace is a blessing, but to many of your bannermen the idea of signing peace with the Lannister after sacking the entire region is almost unthinkable. Thread carefully, Lord Tully.

-You now march towards Highgarden for the peace negotiations, where a marriage also awaits you. Can you broker a peace that can prove lasting?

-Lord Mallister is now besieged in Seagard, believing himself to be able to last anywhere from four to six months.

Petyr Baelish:
-Prestige: 6/10 (married to Lysa)
-Gold: 410.000 GD
-Legitimacy: 0/10

-Congratulations, Lord Baelish. Through your marriage to Lysa Arryn you now hold great sway in how the Vale is ruled, making you one of the most powerful lords in the realm. And yet, with Renly dead you lose a key ally. Can you continue to survive?

-A message arrives from Ser Justin Massey, one of Stannis's knights, warning Lysa that many Lords in the Vale wish for her to declare for Stannis. On the other hand, rumours of Lord Stannis's foreign religion have hurt his position significantly, and some believe even the Royces might be backing down from their initial sympathy. What will you do?

Varys:
-Prestige: 1/10
-Gold: 60.000 GD
-Legitimacy: Doesn’t Apply

-You've survived yet another change of players as Lord Estermont and the Stormlords leave you be. Many of your men are now also in high places, giving you extra efficiency in your complicated tasks. But with Lord Stannis possibly sailing into King's Landing, can you serve yet another ruler?

-Grand Maester Erreck arrived today to the capitol, a very skilled maester yet a man uninterested in politics. Will you try to make contact with him?

-Reports from the cells and rooms in the Red Keep state many who have been held prisioners are taking a turn for the worse, as Pycelle is reported to be on this deathbed, and Queen Cersei's mental health to be rapidly deteriorating. Will you take any moves regarding former foes and allies?

Khal Drogo:
-Prestige: 8/10
-Gold: 300.000 GD
-Legitimacy: Doesn’t Apply

-Pono and over 7,000 riders were left dead outside Volantis, but the battle is certain victory that raises your standing and cements the loyalty of the bloodriders. You now have well over the slaves asked by Tyrosh, whose greedy Archon Moreo Selheris agrees to additionally support Rhaego's cause with an army (alongside the promised fleet) in return for the Dothraki horde sacking Myr and capturing the Disputed Lands for Tyrosh.

Player Crisis:

Viserys Targaryen:
-Prestige: 2/10
-Gold: 50,000 GD
-Legitimacy: 3/10

-A miracle has been performed, and two dragons have been born from the ashes of Tantalus and Doreah. While they will take a while to grow into fearsome beasts, you're the first Targaryen to have dragons since the Dragonbane. How will you name them?

-While most of the Unsullied are dead Red Fist and his men have proven to be decisive in saving the city. The Triarchs are grateful and willing to provide you with a transport fleet when needed, and you've won the goodwill of Benerro and the Fire Priests by bringing dragons back to life. Indeed, already some sons of the Old Blood (and some courtesans) ask for a place in your court. What will you do in Volantis with this new prestige?

Olenna Redwyne:
-Prestige: 7/10
-Gold: 2.840.000 GD
-Legitimacy: 10/10

-Greetings, my lady.

-The death of Renly and the change of sides from the Stormlords leaves Margaery, Loras and Mace trapped in King's Landing, Lord Tarly standing outside the city but outnumbered by the Stormlords. How will you get your family back?

-Many of your more distrustful vassals have returned to the fold due to your promises, and although loyalty to Renly is void you now control units such as the Redwyne Fleet (only House Hightower and its vassals keeping all of their resources to them).

-Envoys arrive in Highgarden for the "Great Council", which may decide the fate of the Stark-Lannister war. What will you do to steer the negotiations to good end?

Doran Martell:
-Prestige: 6/10
-Gold: 670.000 GD
-Legitimacy: 10/10

-Prince Doran, good day.

-Lord Willas has just arrived to Sunspear as the wedding preparations are done. Alas, Arianne herself remains unsure on the match, and the Sand Snakes, Quentyn and several Dornish bannermen express their opposition to the match, questioning a close alliance with an historic rival and foe like the Tyrells of Highgarden. Will you force Arianne to go with the wedding?

-Your newfound ally Stannis Baratheon has apparently seized the capital, which opens up an interesting opportunity for influence expansion in King's Landing. Will you be seeking Dornishmen to be appointed to Lord Stannis's Small Council?

Walder Frey:
-Prestige: 1/10
-Gold: 80.000 GD
-Legitimacy: 8/10

-The entire realm appears to denounce you for the Red Wedding and the breaking of guest rights, and the Tully and Stark armies now have The Twins under siege. And yet, House Frey hasn't run out of tricks or forces, and you could resist a siege for years. Can you turn the tide?

-The Long Lances and the Company of the Crescent Moon are nearby the Riverlands now, expected to land very soon.

-Arwood Frey has reached his destination successfully, and is hard at work on his task.

Early to Mid 299 AL: Aftermath (I)Sad

Great Council in Highgarden:

A key center of negotiations was Highgarden, as while Lord Stannis seized power Lady Olenna Tyrell held talks with Rodrik Forrester, Edmure Tully and Lannister representatives in a way to find peace in the Riverlands. Talks were extensive, and so was the intrigue as spies of countless houses hounded each other. Thought to be close to peace and with a proposal in hand, negotiations broke down after one House decided not to go through with the planned arrangement, storming out and signaling the failure of a Great Council that did little for Lady Olenna's prestige. But the most significant event was to take place the day in the coming days following the departure of the Lannister representatives, as Lady Olenna took ill, her conditioning growing so worse that in less than three days she expired. With Lord Mace and Lord Willas still away or in the road to Highgarden, the fate of House Tyrell appears to be uncertain.

Reign and Fall of the Lord Protector:

The death of Renly Baratheon and the seizing of the capital and the members of House Tyrell by the Stormlords opened up a decisive window for Lord Stannis, which he attempted to seize immediately. Sailing into King's Landing with the support of the Antler Men and his bannermen, yet reviled by the crowds and particularly by the smallfolk (as tales of Stannis's acceptance of a foreign reglion had gone without being countered). Despite the public distrust for his rule, Lord Stannis began on a strong note, restarting payments with the Iron Bank of Braavos, forbidding the burning of religious idols (which didn't stop the Lady Melisandre and Lady Selyse), sending key supporters like Lords Caron and Estermont on commands and negotiating truces and support from Houses Martell and Tyrell, cementing his assumed Lord Protectorship.

But sharp as the rise so was the fall. As malicious rumours linking the Tyrells to Renly's death spread across the smallfolk its release angered them, and Lord Stannis delivered a crushing blow to his vassals and allies when, true to his beliefs that had already entered in conflict during Robert's Rebellion, he proclaimed Viserys Targaryen the one true King, to the shock and anger of his council. His final success after this sudden turn of events was the announcement that House Velaryon was following him on supporting Viserys, ending the conflict in Driftmark, for then hell broke loose. Many of the remaining Stormlords in the capitol denounced Stannis as a traitor to the memory of Robert and Renly for following the son of the Mad King, and promptly abandoned the city.

Without his lords and armies to support him (as they were deserting or away), all that was left was the City Watch under its new (and corrupt) commander Allar Deem (replacing Ser Donnel at Stannis's command), and the tales spreading of Viserys's new acceptance of the foreign religion that Stannis was widely believed to hold (as well as Deem's own corruption) were enough. For the memory of Robert and Renly the smallfolk revolted in a full scale riot as the City Watch attempted to control the situation. And it was when the Lord Protector left the Red Keep to observe the situation that his escort was ambushed, Ser Guyard Morrigen slain as a tall figure dressed under the colors of The Stranger's Knight (thought missing or dead) cut through the ranks and slew the Lord Protector as well.

The Stormlords away from the capital, the city is now in chaos as the riots continue, the Small Council and the City Watch in disarray.

War across the Riverlands:

Peace negotiations having decidedly failed the armies of Houses Lannister, Stark, Tully, Frey and Greyjoy restarted a deadly dance of crows, leading to two key battles:

First Battle of the Twins: Having experienced a prelude to the battle as several Frey expeditions to the river were crushed by the besieging forces during the first few weeks, and against the threat of losing the hostages Lords Blackwood, Bolton and Robett Glover received orders to assault the castle, leading more than 24,000 men to storm The Twins on both ends. In response, Lord Walder Frey had Lord Galbart Glover executed in sight of the attackers, placing them at a frenzy. While having a reputation for being one of the toughest castles in Westeros most of the Frey garrison was recently recruited or inexperienced, fighting against huge odds with great enemy commanders and armies that were determined to crush the Freys for their betrayal.

It was at the morning that Dacey Mormont and the Smalljon reentered the Great Hall, killing Black Walder Frey and capturing Lord Walder himself, thus ending the battle. One by one every single male Frey was executed amidst the cheers of Northmen and Riverlords alike, with Walder Frey himself reserved for Lord Robb Stark, who decapitated him and placed his head at the top of the fortress. With the exception of the female Freys (such as Lady Arwyn Stark) and Arwood Frey, last of the male Freys (on the run in the Vale), House Frey was rendered almost extinct, avenging the Red Wedding.

The situation grew darker as the armies of Victarion Greyjoy arrived that night, taking positions near The Twins. Robb Stark and his Lords prepared for battle, although having learned of House Frey's collapse and being heavily outnumbered Prince Victarion withdrew covered by mist, leaving his place to another approaching army. The Stark-Tully army woke up to the arrival of Ser Jaime Lannister and Ser Gregor Clegane, one of the Lannister armies behind them.

Second Battle of the Twins: Choosing not to fight Jaime in the fortress itself to take advantage of numbers both armies met on the fields nearby The Twins, Ser Jaime hoping to overcome his lack of numbers with cavalry strikes against the tired Stark forces. To his merit, Ser Jaime and Ser Gregor cut deep into the Tully army and defended themselves well against the Stark army, dominating the early battle. It was a counterattack by Robb Stark, Theon Greyjoy and Robb's personal guard that turned the tide, killing Lord Gawen Westerling and repulsing Jaime's vanguard. Outnumbered and with the Starks having The Twins to retreat, Ser Jaime used the night to withdraw back to Oldstones and take defensive positions. Robb Stark was hailed by his men after the battle as The Young Wolf.

Early to Mid 299: Aftermath (II)Sad

Loyalty and Intrigue in Westeros:

The shockwaves of Stannis's proclamation and his posterior death expanded far beyond King's Landing, with serious consequences for the future. An attempt to send Queen Dowager Cersei and Princess Myrcella into Sunspear by the Lord Protector's orders was frustrated as a small group of officers in the corrupt City Watch helped to smuggle Princess Myrcella to bring her to the Deep Den and the safety of the Westerlands, Queen Cersei being sent as the sole captive towards Dorne. Lord Estermont captured Harrenhal on Stannis's orders, only to learn of his Targaryen loyalties and death in the coming days, leaving his Stormlander army holding the large fortress without a clear destiny.

Graver for Stannis's cause was the meeting of the forces of Bryce Caron, Donnel and Balon Swann and Cortnay Penrose, who after hearing of Stannis's actions also turned against him and reaffirmed their support for the Baratheon claim to the throne. As of the moment, there's talk in Storm's End of proclaimed Robert Baratheon's bastard Edric as King, or of supporting Tommen's claim. Lord Tywin cleverly exploited the anger of some regarding the Lord Protector's turn, bringing to his cause important Crownlander houses such as Rosby (Lord Rosby remaining in the capital), Chyttering and Stokeworth, and a few Stormlords, such as the Trants, Bucklers and Mertyns.

The Sack of Myr:

Having reached an agreement with the greedy Moreo Selheris, Archon of Tyrosh, the Khalassar of Khal Drogo continued to see young riders join his forces (as Drogo has reached almost legendary status for his challenge of Volantis), the Khal leading his main forces on a march to Myr as a smaller force raced across the Disputed Lands, crushing Lysene forces for the sake of Tyrosh. The Free City of Myr faced a critical situation as its recruitment of sellswords fell through (many companies being crushed in Volantis, several Myrmen stuck in Dragonstone and many intact sellswords sailing to Lys), allowing Drogo to crush the main Myr forces outside the City and breaching the gates. Reinforcements from the colonies pushed Drogo out and inflicted heavy casualties on his rear, but not before half the city burned as thousands of slaves found their way into Drogo's armies.

With further Lys reinforcements crushed under the Dothraki hordes Tyrosh has ruined Myr for the coming months and establish a strong presence in the Disputed Lands against Lys, cementing itself as a new power in Essos and one of the most powerful Free Cites as the sale of dozens of thousands of slaves from Khal Drogo gives them immense wealth. Delivering on his part of the deal as Khal Drogo and a few thousand riders enter Tyrosh, Archon Selheris gifted Drogo not only with a transport fleet, but one of the Tyroshi war fleets and a 15,000 strong expeditionary force under the gifted Admiral Racallio Sireis and veteran General Cime Remys.

A Dragon in Lys:

Despite the loss of one of his potentially key supporters in Westeros in Lord Protector Baratheon, Viserys Targaryen saw much progress on his cause to return to his native land. Naming his dragons Aeryxes and Rhaellar after his parents, Viserys was courted by the Old Blood and the followers of Benerro and the Lord of Light, the Targaryen Prince siding with the second group. While this has meant few scions of the Old Blood join his forces, many followers of the Lord of Light and even Red Priests and Tiger Cloaks enter his armies, as his new and mysterious sources of gold finally allow Viserys to buy sellsword companies. A fateful meeting took place as Dornish forces landed in the City after paying for transport, bringing Prince Oberyn Martell and his bastards Obara and Nymeria Sand. It was the first time the Targaryens and the Martells met since Robert's Rebellion.

With Volantis providing Viserys his reward of a transport fleet, the Prince sailed with the Dornishmen, his Volantene forces, the Unsullied survivors and the Company of the Rose, the Bright Banners and the prestigious Second Sons to land in Lys, where was received with courtesy by the Magisters.
