Crazy how if Trump won the popular vote, all of those CA electors would have had to vote Republican.

This gets to why I'm skeptical of the NPVIC: it's a prisoner's dilemma where certain states will inevitably face incentives to deviate from the pact for personal gain.

Also is crazy to think that if the National Vote Interstate Compact had been in law in Michigan and Pennsylvania, We would be going to the house more than likely

They would be Trump electors though. The Compact doesn't make electors automatically bound. It determines what slate of electors wins.

The compact doesn't go into effect in any state until enough states totaling over 270 have agreed to it.

I don't see why. It only takes effect when it's been passed with enough states to claim a majority of electoral votes outright.

I still wonder, in the alternate universe where Clinton wins at least MI/PA/WI, and thus the presidency, do we actually see a significant number of faithless electors on the Republican side?  If Trump had lost, I think a large number of party elites would have turned on him after the election, and we could have gotten a reasonably large number of faithless electors.  I speculated on this way back in March:

If Trump is the nominee and loses badly, I'm guessing the elite Republican consensus will be that the party has to disavow him quickly, and pretend his nomination never happened.  A bunch of faithless electors casting their vote for someone other than Trump would be a symbolic first step.

Six faithless electors so far. The first time we've got more than one since 1960, I believe (Kennedy won Alabama, but six of them voted Byrd. Mississippi was actually carried by an unpledged slot).

All the Byrd votes were from unpledged electors - AL wasn't WTA. Same reason 1860 had no faithless electors - NJ wasn't WTA.

Hm, didn't know that. Still it's funny since Kennedy won the state's PV with 56.39% (Dave doesn't list any unpledged voters in Alabama for 1960.)

Where they being allocated via CDs? For since when?

The actual candidates for elector were listed on the GE ballot instead of the candidates, and people could vote however they wanted. So a split delegation served in the EC.

OK, thanks.

Just think, if Bush had 2 faithless electors in 2000, or just one for Hayes, it would have gone to the House.

Trump is President, Hillary is defeated worse than before, and Ron Paul gets an electoral vote.

Beautiful!

Congress wouldn't count it though, since he's ineligible.

Trump could nominate him to the Supreme Court, however. There are absolutely no restrictions in terms of age, citizenry or otherwise as to who can be appointed to the Court.

So have we set an all-time record for faithless electors for president?  We've had many more faithless VP electors before, but for the presidential ballot, I think 7 faithless electors is an all-time record.

According to NYT, the most ever was in 1808 at 6 faithless votes, so this would be the record.
