TBH I think Sanders underperformed, but that's only because I was expecting him to literally (figuratively) kill everyone else on stage and rise to >80% in the polls by the end of the week.

O'Malley. Atlas is dead wrong...

It usually is about these things. Appealing to political nerds is very different from appealing to the primary electorate.

Your problem there is that O'Malley appeals exclusively to political nerds.

Yeah, I don't actually agree with VPH about O'Malley, but I agree with the general point that Atlas is usually wrong about these things.

Sanders hands down.  Hillary did a decent job to be sure, and probably scared Biden away from running, but not enough to really cover her bases (hooray we kicked out Gaddafi...but I'm gonna glaze over the whole ensuing chaos thing...) or more importantly, THE base.

The three long-shots all had their moments, but nothing noteworthy enough to make them non-long shots

O'Malley. Atlas is dead wrong...

For what it's worth, everyone in my Facebook feed who was following the debate was mocking O'Malley. My Dad, who is a carpenter from Iowa and is very much a "normal" Democratic voter, thought that O'Malley sounded less than sincere. This is not intended to be conclusive evidence or whatever but O'Malley clearly didn't win.

He oozes "pandering hack".

The raw charisma of Lincoln Chafee has swept the Atlantic. Even now late at night, I cannot slumber, images of the dynamo Lincoln Chafee the Granite Man from Rhode Island overwhelming my quaint British mind. Not as a joke zero percent figure, but as a statesman who rose metric kilometres above his opponents. God bless Lincoln Chafee, and I do believe that is an appropriate name, given his presidential namesake. My friends, we have truly seen a political rebirthing. Of the Democratic Party, of the granite man and of America herself.

Once, the Republicans were the Party of Lincoln, but tonight I think we can truly say that in the 21st century the Democrats are the new Party of Lincoln.

Both parties should stop saying " Party of Lincoln" . The Modern Liberal and Conservative was born in 1896. I think the Republicans are the party of William McKinley and the Democrats are the party of Woodrow Wilson

My take.

1. Clinton - Did what she needed to do and should stop bleeding in the polls.
2. Sanders - Wasn't bad, but wasn't great either.
3. O'Mailey - Did better than everyone thought he would. Probably gets a small bump.
4. Webb - He's out of place.
5. Chaffee - "It was my first day!"

I think both Clinton and Sanders had their moments, but if Hillary stops dropping that's probably enough for it to be considered a win for her.

Didn't see it yet, but I'm reading the morning news right now.

Austrian media say Hillary Clinton won.

Yet the focus groups all say Sanders won:

Might be one of those situations where the elites and actual people are in two very different places.

If you criticize her for that, what exactly is your signature referencing?

Oh no, sanders will definitely lose the lucrative Austrian delegates in the convention now. Sad

Houston! ....We have a problem,  I mean you Democrats....Hillary won, but not because she won...she was handled with kid gloves and I not kidding! ...I mean if she's not able or allowed to handle the hard questions,  because the DNC deems it so and her opponents were "instructed" not to get too rough....or else! ...I doubt Debbie Wasserman-Schultz has done Hillary any favors or her edicts are gonna have the same affect or impact on Hillary's opponent in the general election...the likely response is "eat me" or "talk to the hand" or the extended middle finger. Suppose Wasserman-Schultz will throw a hissy and threaten to hold her breath. Chafee has nothing to lose nor have the other candidates and the threats issued by the DNC will have zero effect. Hillary "winning" against a weak opposition is truly glaring and especially pathetic.  Chafee I can see will create the most problems for Hillary. Shame!😊😀

I don't remember any elite saying that Bush won the Republican debates.

In the context of the debate, no. I was referring to how the Party elite and the Party voters are split on who they support (Bush has elite backing, whereas many voters support Trump, Clinton has elite backing whereas many voters support Sanders). Not a perfect comparison, but very similar.
