We all knew that nominating Sandford was a horrible mistake for the Republicans, but could we have predicted that it would be this horrible?

No one knew that there'd be multiple Akin moments either, much less the original one.

Is he embracing this story or backing the hell away because he's too close?

If he does embrace it it is going to be one hell of a show. I do doubt he will though.

According to you, if Colbert Busch wins, will she join the blue dog coalition?

I guess she didn't want Bostic to win either, considering she chose to wait until after Sanford won the primary to reveal this?

Losing to a Democrat is much more of a blow than losing to another Republican. Sanford has never lost an election as it stands, so I'm sure Jenny wanted it to be as humiliating as possible.

In the made-for-TV movie based on this whole bizarre story, this is the part where we cut to Jenny Sanford smiling slyly to herself, putting on a pair of sunglasses, and speeding off into the distance in a convertible.

Jeez... how did Sanford win the primary in the first place? Were his Republican opponents child molestors or something?

Sure looks like ECB will have that seat for 18 months, and then Pubs can get a sane candidate.

There were a ton of candidates splitting the sane vote, leaving Sanford and Bostic to win.  Bostic is a hyper-socon in a district that doesn't have a lot of socons, but he was the only major socon running.  If this had been an upstate district, Bostic probably would have beat Sanford in the runoff, but he might not have made the runoff since more hyper-socons would have entered.

Yeah, Colbert-Busch most likely won't win reelection.  I wonder what she'll do afterwards, there aren't many significant Democratic politicians in SC, so winning this seat might make her the biggest Democratic name in the state.

Yeah, if only Republicans had some kind of indication that Sanford was likely to make incredibly flawed decisions regarding his personal life that would negatively impact his political career. Too bad no such incident existed prior to the primary.

If ECB does win the seat, hopefully in '14 she'll run on a sort of "Give me a full term to represent you" appeal.

I blame this, to an extent, on the infusion of the Evangelical/born-again ethos into Republican politics. Unconditional forgiveness and grace gets bastardized into carte blanche to do whatever you want and then shed some crocodile tears, claim you're a "sinner" but that the Lord has redeemed you and wait for the folks back home to say, "Well bless his heart, I'm sure things will be different now." And they never are.

In South Carolina? Where is a sane Republican going to come from?

Pubs can get a successful insane candidate, though.
