So let me get this straight... You win with about 62% of the vote. You beat Afleitch. And now you're trying to start a constitutional convention.

Why does this sound familiar? Tongue

We can do it right this time. Tongue

We're hoping Mark Twain was right and that history rhymes, but doesn't repeat. Wink

The next ConCon will be designed much more narrowly. We aren't looking to overturn or solidify the current system, but rather, we are hoping to simply consolidate, improve and refresh.

The hope is that we do not need such a sprawling and disorganized convention wielding a sledgehammer, instead turning to a small group with a scalpel.

Party like its 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey all.

I want it stated that I just went back and bookmarked all our campaign promises and some of our smaller campaign brainstorming. I will do my damnedest to make sure we take action on everything we can once we take office. Tongue

Oh so you actually plan to follow through on your campaign promises? Where did you get a bold and innovative idea. Everyone knows politicians are supposed to lie to get elected then do nothing or the complete opposite of what they promised.

My biggest criticism of the current Administration, aside from general inactivity, is the fact that they failed to live up to their promises. I want to have a checklist by me to make sure we take action on everything we possibly can. A simple gesture, but an important one. Tongue

The bar is even higher in my eyes.

On another note, I will have another announcement of Cabinet picks tomorrow. 6 days until the official start of this administration!

This reminds me of a joke George W. Bush made on the campaign plane in 2000.

Cabinet Appointments: Fresh Faces

I would like to announce three more Cabinet appointments tonight.

I have chosen to appoint Winston Disraeli as Secretary of Internal Affairs, Benconstine as Secretary of External Affairs and Meeker as Secretary of Federal Elections. I do so because I know that each of these appointees will be active in their posts and bring a desire to oversee positive change under my administration.

I look forward to working with Winston to craft domestic policy and work with the Senate to address the issues that affect Atlasians most directly. Winston is a strong candidate for breathing new interest into policy discussions, in addition to his duties to implement and follow up on legislation passed by the Senate.

Benconstine will be committed to renewed Atlasian outreach and leadership on the world stage. He brings an intense interest in foreign policy and will help reinvigorate the office while building on the strong achievements of his predecessor.

Finally, Meeker will bring his intricate knowledge of election laws to help the most vital part of this game run smoothly, and he will play a major role in helping my administration consolidate and streamline those laws. His long experience in the game will be very important in the DoFA reform process.

Please feel free to ask questions or provide comments on these pending appointments. I do ask that questions directed to the nominees be saved until the confirmation hearings.

Winston? He lost a debate to ME of all people, and is  a flip floper Maoist totalitarian.

Benconstine's a War Hawk.

The decision to pick Winston for SoIA was an interesting one and one PS and I both agreed from the start on; Winston is an interesting personality who will breathe a different sort of life into the SoIA position which is desperately needed. He's Winston, afterall Tongue

So if anyone could make that position interesting and well known, it'd be him.

Ben is a fresh face who, believe it or not, was VERY passionate about wanting the position and actually knew his stuff. I'm sure he will be more moderate in an official capacity, but he deserves a chance to give the SoEA line some new blood.

I have confidence in all our picks.

I doubt there is much threat of Maoist policy being enacted given the composition of the upcoming Senate. A hawkish foreign policy may have more success, but I suspect that would ultimately be frustrated as well.

Benconstine was complaining about the current SoIA because he wanted Atlasia to waste it's limited foreign aid resources on funding the wealthy, warmongering state of 'Israel'.

That's an unacceptable position to hold, imo.

Ftr, my main aims as SoIA will be to encourage economic growth through implementation of democratic socialist policies. But I'll have to work with the Senate and Cabinet to see what happens with that Smiley

I'll settle for activity and purpose. Tongue

Anyway, I just wanted to thank all the other applicants for the positions. Kalwejt, Hash, and Xahar were all possible choices for SoEA. Hash was amazing and has done exemplary work, and this decision shouldn't be a reflection of our feelings on him at all.

Ben really wanted this position. He knows his stuff (he could cite figures from GM reports with ease) and he had a great passion for the position.

The truth of the matter is that these two choices were choices with game reform on the mind, with of course competence and a willingness to do the job. Ben is a fresh face, Winston is an interesting and active personality. We want to make the SoIA position worth a damn and bring new blood into the SoEA line. It shouldn't be taken as "Oh, Purple State supports communism" or "Oh, Marokai supports warmongering" because it's nothing like that. These are two fresh faces, two competent people, two very nice people, two active people, and two passionate people. It's nothing more or less than that, really.

Oh and Meeker's good too. Tongue

If they are so troubling, I'd like you to explain how I'm going to implement mass collectivisation of agriculture and the overthrow of capitalism. And how Ben is going to implement a hawkish foreign policy. We can't do anything without the consent of the rest of the government and the Senate. So we will have to take positions that we can all work together on - I don't see what the problem is.
