But it's 100% a democrat forum

As has been said before, I believe that the forum has a center-left predisposition. We do have a large number of libertarians and relatively few conservatives, which, in combination with virtually no communitarians and a multiplicity of liberals, results in a forum that is to the left of the American populace socially, and, overall, pretty even economically. This, I believe, is not representative of the American public at large, but instead is rather similar to the American public within the age group of ~14-25.

Check out this poll: https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=92966.0

Does anyone think a national poll would be majority positive?

Or just compare the % of atheists on the forum and in the general American population.

Because all atheists are left wing or all left wingers are atheist. Roll Eyes This stat has nothing to do with with the forum's ideological standpoint.

Very funny.
Last time I checked all (that I know of) of the Libertarians (as in yellow avatars) were atheists or agnostics and there were quite a few christian bleeding heart liberals.

Which is kind of how it works in real life. A majority of "liberals" are actually like the majority of "conservatives" when it comes to religious beliefs, it only seems like a lot of liberals are atheists because well.....there is a lot of them. However, I know of very few libertarians (personally) who are anything above agnostic.

We'll, we're certainly anti-populist. We're certainly small-l liberal, but that doesn't mean we're left-wing. Look at the ridiculous lack of support for affirmative action for example.

As was said before, we're (majority) young, educated white males. We basically believe we should be able to do whatever we want; its just that some of us think the same is true of everyone else as well, while some think that what they want should trump the interests of others.

I once ran a poll on this site circa 2005-2006 about a preference between a "socially liberal, economic conservative" and the inverse.

The hypothetical "social liberal, economic conservative" one by a 2 to 1 margin.

Of course - social conservatism, when moralistic is more offputting to most young people than someone who thinks money should be appropriated one way or the other.

Does it have a left (in American context) lean?  Yes.  Is it a strong lean?  No.  Is it "left" in any sort of international context?  No.  I'd imagine Sarkozy would beat Royal, Cameron would beat Brown, and Merkel would beat Muenterfering on this site.

Well, I am definitely left of the center of this forum on economic issues.  I'd say that most posters are either moderate or center left on economic issues, but that the high number of extreme conservatives on economic issues drags it to right of center.

On social issues, I think we're a good cross section of the 18-29 crowd, but left of America in general (though again, we're right on economics).

So overall, we're a slight libertarian-left leaning forum.

It is very right-leaning economically, obviously, though centrist socially.  It diverges from the general public mainly socially.  The most salient characteristic of posters here is that they live in a fantasy world.

No I meant they have no understanding of the actual functioning of the society in which they live.
