Late in the game but I voted for Jorgensen. Can’t wait until we have a Republican candidate I feel good about supporting again.

Don't worry, the Republican Party will be back to nominating a warmongerer who doesn't much care about people dying from lack of healthcare before you know it. He won't tweet too much so you'll all love him.

Being condescending like that is totally going to make me switch to red avatar and start voting for your preferred candidate.

Haha. Very funny.

If Republicans didn't budge an inch after Donald Trump's actions over the last four years, capped off by deliberately setting in motion the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans, they were never going to vote for anyone without an (R) after their name.

If there's one thing this election has made crystal clear: trying to appeal to Republicans is futile. Reason, decency, self-interest, the future, none of it matters a bit.

From the perspective of a supporter of Trump, the past 24 hours could not have been more horrifying.

Most of them were expecting a quick victory, allowing them to get ample and sound sleep. Many of them did.

Then they woke to the news that Wisconsin flipped due to black people in Milwaukee voting fraud, and then the news that 1.5 million almost entirely Democratic mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania seemingly came from thin air. Then came the flip in Michigan, caused by black people in Detroit more fraud. News from Georgia and Arizona depressed their spirits further.

If Biden won a 413 landslide on election night, it would have been the equivalent of a shot to the head. But this drawn-out turn of events was death by a thousand cuts. It was definitely much worse than how Democrats felt in 2016.

Are you sure they even know he's losing? Given their propensity for misinformation, I figure they think he won and it's over — maybe even off celebrating somewhere

Nope. Go to Twitter. Don himself has been circulating rumours of votes being made up overnight, and vowing to defend himself. In Detroit, they were gathered outside the convention center chanting "stop the count". In Phoenix, they're chanting "count the votes".

Chanting two totally different things makes no sense? WTF.

It makes perfect sense once you internalize the reality that Republicans are all wanna-be jackbooted authoritarian thugs (or the beneficiaries of such a regime) and that they regard laws as tools for use against their opponents.

I'm curious. Do Republicans think that she's demonstrating that her religion is a complete sham, or is she committing a federal felony?

She sounds like frickin Foghorn Leghorn.

I think you mean, she sounds like the (fictional) Senator Claghorn, of whom Foghorn Leghorn is a pastiche. (If there's any place for such trivia as this, Atlas is surely it!)

Idiocracy just wasn't a good movie. The premise had potential but it wasn't very well executed.

It was a whole lot better than the 4-year reality TV show they ran with that guy from The Apprentice. I think actually let him make decisions and issue orders was going way to far. But thankfully he mostly just watched TV and argued with people on the internet.

This is absolute dangerous non-sense.  They are counting votes.  Why don't Republicans want votes to be counted?

Because Republicans prioritize power (and their ability to abuse it) over rule of law or democracy. Where have you been the last few decades?

I know it's an old theme at this point, but the fact remains that directly attacking the election process he has sworn his Oath of Office to upload is, in and of itself, an impeachable act.

At long last, Trump's real nemesis is revealed:

(I suppose it makes sense. The orange skin really should have been a big hint that he's been a muppet the whole time)

In principle, I have no problem with that. Someone should keep an eye on the Trump observers though.

Poll Watchers are usually in their own area off to the side. They won't be able to just walk around and mess stuff up.

My concern is that they'll either:

-lie, and claim to have witnessed "massive evidence of fraud" for Trump propaganda purposes

-try to steal, destroy, or otherwise spoil a significant chunk of ballots "oops, can't be counted now, too bad"

...no sh**t, he'd have won 400+ EVs without mail in ballots

Trump campaign has some real Scooby-Doo villain energy going.

The irony is that he would have had it all if he'd just stayed as the host of the Apprentice. He screwed himself by running for president.

He really didn't. Being a Reality TV star was a decent living, but it wasn't enough to get him out of his deep debt hole. Running for President was a way to find new suckers (and boy did he ever), and to try to fend off his creditors (and once he got elected, do favors for his owners, too).

Anyway, I don't think it's too much to ask house Democrats to blacklist the words "socialism", "defund", and "abolish." It isn't helping anyone.

I think you're right. Dems can advocate exactly what they have been without feeding the GOP's propaganda machine. And when the GOP pulls out their snarl words, the Democratic reply can be, "Republicans just hate anything that helps regular Americans instead of their wealthy donors."

Scott, take it from an old card player: no matter how long you stare at a deuce, it ain't gonna turn into an ace.

I don't like Ivanka but it's clear that she the least crazy person in the immediate Trump family. She's the only one out of her dad and brothers that has not tweeted about phantom "voter fraud".

For some reason, I actually think that, out of all his kids, she would have the best chance in 2024.

I'm skeptical. I think America's bone-deep sexism, particularly among Republican voters, would doom her chances.

If it’s not about being gay or something else Trump has on him, how do you explain how Lindsey Graham went from this...

...To being the only major Republican who has implicitly endorsed an illegal coup among state legislators to elect Trump against the will of the people.

What the f—k happened???

I've always just presumed Lindsey is closeted, and Trump (or more likely, his Russian friends) have some mortally embarrassing material pertaining to that, and Trump uses it to yank Lindsey around the same way Putin yanks Trump's leash.

Fox and AP going rogue in AZ is the only reason no one has called NV yet.

That shouldn't stop another network from calling it.

I suspect the knowledge that Donnie Dumb**** is going to lose it when the election gets called against him has the networks making sure all the pieces really are in place for him to formally lose before they call it. I.e given the circumstances, they're being responsible journalists; they're not going to call it for Biden until it's mathematically impossible for Trump to win (without extraordinary judicial intervention).

I sincerely hope there is enough sensible people surrounding the utter stupidity of Donald Trump to make things as smooth and peaceful of a transition as possible.

Victory speech?

Yes and No, I expect.

He'll say he's starting the starting the transition so they can "hit the ground running", and that they're acting on the apparent win. At the same time, they're going to "abide by the legal process" and "make sure every vote counts". He will also throw a little shade at  Trump's desperate lawsuits, and a lot of shade at Trump's attacks on our elections.

Trump has told people he has no plans to concede even if his path to victory is blocked

Quote
Even as vote totals now show him trailing former Vice President Joe Biden in key battlegrounds, Trump has not prepared a concession speech and in conversations with allies in recent days has said he has no intention of conceding the election, people familiar with the matter said.

So far he has been bolstered in his stance by those closest to him, including his senior advisers and his adult sons, who have mounted an aggressive effort in the courts to challenge the results and have pressured other Republicans into defending him.

Top aides, including his chief of staff Mark Meadows, have not attempted to come to terms with the President about the reality of what is happening. Instead, they have fed his baseless claim that the election is being stolen from underneath him. That has led to some annoyance among staff, who believe Meadows is feeding the President's baseless claim that the election is illegitimate.

Hey, gonna be that guy, just got back here after many hours, can someone give me a basic gestalt on what I've missed? Where does everything stand right now? This thread is my primary source of info and I love you all Purple heart

Biden's very narrowly ahead in  AZ, NV, PA and GA, and is the presumptive President-elect, but counting won't be truly finished for days. It's close enough major networks aren't publicly calling the election yet. Donnie Dumb**** is getting increasingly unhinged, and his campaign is tossing out election-related lawsuits. Most Republicans politicians are on the record as opposing his more outrageous statements. Biden is looking more Presidential by the hour.
