Unsurprisingly, the 538 PA average looks considerably different and has Fetterman +6.0.

Fetterman people apparently mad on twitter that NBC News is playing up his incoherent issues so close to the election. It matters. Look how long Mark Kirk was out and then ineffective until his eventual defeat in Illinois.

Mark Kirk outran the top of the ticket by 2% despite making a blatantly racist statement at a debate.

On top of that, Mark Kirk's stroke was pretty clearly very different from Fetterman's; in Kirk's case, the stroke was sadly pretty bad for his actual mental faculties, whereas Fetterman's stroke seems to have basically given him hearing difficulties which he can overcome handily with closed captioning or whatever. I legitimately can't tell if people actually don't see the distinction here or are just being hackish.

Whenever this type of question is asked, it's a pretty good bet that they (for any "they") are being hackish.

Mod request: The discussion of Fetterman's stroke recovery has morphed into one about whether certain disabilities are disqualifying for public office.  While this is interesting in its own right, it's off-topic for this thread.  Please start a separate thread if you wish to continue the general discussion of that topic.

No, it’s not off-topic whatsoever.

If you want to talk about Fetterman's stroke recovery in this thread, that's fine.  If you want to discuss the general topic of disabilities in public office, that should be a separate thread.

Lost in all of the kerfuffle here: there hasn't been a poll released yet that was conducted this month. Seems like everyone is taking increasingly haphazard shots in the dark.

Yeah, it's very odd. You'll have like 2 weeks of solid PA polls every day and then a massive drought.

Probably means there are some in the field right now.  We just went through a similar drought in Georgia, then there were a bunch released within a day of each other.

While watching Jeopardy! last night, I saw seven campaign ads in a row, including four PA-SEN ads that alternated Oz-Fetterman-Oz-Fetterman.  Had all the hits: "Fetterman is a far-left liberal", "Oz is a quack", "Fetterman racially profiles black people", "Oz tortures puppies".

The other three were, respectively, a Chrissy Houlahan ad, an Andy Kim ad, and a Josh Shapiro ad.

I DVR Jeopardy, so even if I'm ready to watch it at the broadcast time, I wait about 10 minutes and then start the playback so I can fast-forward through all the commercials. Smiley

I think the mainstream media still has a lot of respect for Oz as one of their own, plus Fetterman doesn't fit in with the intolerable Democrats that they like, so I'm not surprised they're going all in against him.

Plus Fetterman, for lack of a better word, is a weirdo. The whole hoodie-lives in his mom's basement-thing just gives off vibes that tell me the white male vote will go heavily against him.
Both of the candidates strike a lot of people as weirdos.

Fetterman is a more likable weirdo, though.

I certainly wish I shared wbrocks's optimism here. Would make it a hell of a lot easier on my blood pressure.
See that’s why you should join the doomer side. We have cookies and depression.

I don't think the cookies make up for the feeling of impending doom, although they probably help. Wink

Easy to say Lamb would beat Oz when he hasn't faced negative press since the primary.

There's also probably a feedback loop involved here.  These Fetterman voters are likely feeling nervous because the race has gotten closer, so they may be more inclined to think Lamb would have done better.  If the race hadn't gotten closer, they probably wouldn't feel that way.

Independent write-in candidate.  Every little bit helps, I guess.

Moderator Note: I've just gotten to the forum and found a ton of reported messages in this thread.  I've let most of them stand, but knock off the ableist comments or there will be more infractions.  Specifically, calling someone brain-dead is over the line.

Well that didn't make my choice any easier like I hoped it would...

Are you being anti stuttering as well? You should know better

I think you're starting to see bias where none exists.  She's been quite clear all along that she's undecided in this race.

I did not read this entire thread.

I am not particularly ideological or even partisan. But as someone with an extremely mild speech impediment am I just supposed to sit back and take abuse from Republicans over it ?

I sympathize with your speech impediment; one of my family members also has a mild one.  But in this particular case, PQG said absolutely *nothing* about Fetterman's speech, merely that she was still undecided after watching the debate.  It is a very big stretch to impute that to an anti-stuttering bias.  This is why I said you are seeing bias when none exists.  Don't assume it's the only motivation for someone who doesn't like Fetterman in general or his debate performance in particular.

Voters are allowed to judge on anything they want.

And we're allowed to call them <deleted by mod> for making certain judgements.

Not if you do it with explicit profanity in a public thread.

A-h*les is considered 'explicit profanity' on Atlas? What is this, Sesame Street?

Of course.  This forum is brought to you by the letters D and R and the number 538.

Moderator note: I've cleaned up the thread.  If you notice a post of yours missing, it wasn't necessarily something you did but that it was part of a problematic conversation.

Dude can you cool it on posting so many things from literal Democratic operatives? He’s the communications director of the DSCC, his job is to create Democratic biased content.

The forum at least has a pretense of objectivity. It struggles with that already, it doesn’t need to become VoteDem.

His posts are increasingly becoming white noise to me. As I said the other day, Fetterman could be comatose and in a hospital bed, hooked to life support, and Democrats - such as many on this forum - would crawl on their hands and knees over broken glass to vote for him.

Obviously Democrats would, this seat decides control of the Senate and we don't want Mitch McConnell to be Majority Leader again.

That makes Democrats no better than Republicans here. Just as Republicans are fully behind Herschel Walker, even in the aftermath of his scandals, so are Democrats fully behind John Fetterman, even with his health struggles. All that matters is power for both political parties.

Do you really not see a qualitative difference between Fetterman and Walker?  Fetterman has a health issue that is certainly concering but is hopefully improving.  In other respects he's a decent person and an experienced public servant.  Walker is a serial liar and domestic abuser with zero government experience who clearly lacks the capability to be a Senator.

And before you ask: no, I wouldn't vote for Walker if he was the Democratic nominee.

I really miss the Virginia Governor thread. it was so peaceful and quiet compared to this.

Everyone was civil. And Non Swing Voter was so nice.

The NSV exile bet is up soon so he may slink back.

He gets credit for actually following through with it instead of welching, which is what usually happens on such bets.
