The electoral map if it was by donations. In general, the donations map has Biden doing better in the rust belt, and poorer in the sunbelt, which makes sense, since many of the voters they rely on in the sunbelt are poorer than their northern counterparts.
This map foreshadowed Biden's relative weakness in the Sunbelt and relative strength in the (white) Northeast. RIP Atlas's collective dreams of blue Iowa and blue Ohio.
Just like how Sanders' strength with Latino and (urban, working-class) Asian voters in the Dem primary foreshadowed Biden's weakness with those groups in the GE... Biden's "surprise" victory on Super Tuesday actually foreshadowed the Democrats' underperformance on November 3rd.
Imagine if this map foretells the county results.
I can’t wait for Biden to sweep upstate New York while Trump flips Clark, Bexar, and Miami-Dade! Biden will bring back the white working class while Trump breaks even with Hispanics! #Realignment2020
The map is probably a good estimate of the college-educated white vote in each county but overlooks some key demographics.
I remember the huge advantage in Biden donations in upstate New York and huge advantages in Trump donations in Las Vegas and Miami and wondering if anything would come of it. Turns out it was somewhat predictive of the trends in November.
