Morning, y'all!

Hope everybody has a lovely election day! Please make sure to go vote! I'm planning to do so in a couple of hours after the coffee has hit (no, the coffee hasn't hit yet, this is non-caffeinated PQG).

Did you decide who to vote for in the Senate race?

Yup! Or at least it's a strong lean at this point.

Lmao, how can you still be "leaning" on the actual ED? Undecided voters truly are something.

You're talking to a girl who melts down when her roommate asks if she wants chocolate or vanilla ice cream.

If I may ask, who are you leaning towards?

Holding that one close to my chest.

Back to the results thread: I'm going into mom mode and imploring folks to be kind to each other.  Tensions will run high, but there's no need to be nasty.  If your predictions were spot on, great.  If they were wrong, it's okay.

As I said in another thread: yes, these elections will have real-world consequences.  Yes, it's stressful.  But take at least a moment to appreciate that in a little under twelve hours, we're gonna have new numbers to play with and obsess over! It's election day in America -- we only get so many of those in our lifetimes!

Looking forward to the festivities tonight! Lezzgo!

Just voted! Turnout was light but steady, passed people on the way in and the way out.  By far the youngest person there.

Didn't have to wait in line.  For the fourth straight election cycle, I got a "that's a beautiful name" from the vote registration person Tongue

Was also pleased to see that this ballot wasn't the freaking SAT's like it was in 2020.

The will they or won’t they of 2022 has finally arrived.

Don’t tell me you undervoted Sen. Cheesy

Nope, every field was accounted for! As I said previously, I'm keeping my Senate choice close to the chest for now.  But seriously guys, stop focusing on my single Senate vote and let's get back to the election at large! Tongue

Apparently OSR thinks my prediction of a 53-45(+2I) Senate minimum is bullish! (Or is it bearish?)

Don't start.  I mean it.  You know who I'm talking to.

Sorry.  I know how worked up everybody gets over the "milk before cereal" vs. "milk after cereal" vs. "dry cereal" debate.

I'm excited to analyze the final results, regardless of the outcome. Predictions and campaign details don't resonate with me as much as looking at concrete data and maps.

While we obviously never ever take pleasure in illness, there are sometimes patients who walk into the hospital with conditions that are "you only read about it in textbooks" rare.  And it's always interesting about being able to see these afflictions in the wild.

In that same way, we will not be happy with every result tonight.  But I'd be willing to bet that as election junkies, a Democrat winning Oklahoma's governorship or a Republican taking over the governor's mansion in Oregon draws a similar level of intrigue.  Ditto for a D+15 district flipping to the GOP, even if just for two short years.  The surprises in store are what make our nerdy little obsession so much fun.

No one at my polling place when I went to vote around 10am this morning.

Not really surprising...our only election is an ultra-safe R House seat; I literally filled one bubble for a sacrificial lamb Dem.  At least my vote counts for the House NPV!

I voted Libertarian in my state's House race (no Democrat).

There tend to be a lot of local races around me with an unopposed Republican, so I usually write myself or family members in.

There isn't a write in vote option in South Dakota, unfortunately.

Do y'all ever actually do anything right out there? Tongue

First Nevada in-person voting turnout.
Yeah. This is over.

8:12 am! Who do you think is voting that early?

Probably senior citizens, the before-work crowd, and at least one coyote wearing a T-shirt that says "I lost big at The Venetian".

Isn't that literally the same guy who in 2017 did the whole "Good for Dems in the morning, very bad for Dems in the middle of the day, Good again for Dems in the evening!" thing?

Come to think of it, there was someone on Twitter (as in more than just some random Tweet... er) who kept saying " exit polls not looking good for Democrats" during the 2017 VA-GOV election.

This started at like 10 AM.  I'm wondering if this is the same guy.

Anecdotal turnout observations: it's a beautiful and amazingly warm (76F) day here in Forsyth County.  I was out with my wife for a while and happened to drive past three local precincts.  Two had half-full parking lots, while the other was nearly empty.  None had visible lines outside their buildings.  My kid in Athens also texted that he and his girlfriend voted this morning and there was no wait.

Aw, GeorgiaModerate Jr.!

But yeah, don't stress yourselves out (or celebrate) prematurely.  Anecdotal reports -- whether from Twitter randoms or established pros -- are just that.

HST, definitely seems like a mixed bag though today thus far!

What time do IN/KY results start to roll in? Not talking about polls closing, rather actual results. Probably best for my sanity to set an alarm for that time instead of trying to read the Twitter tea leaves.

Pretty much immediately if my memory serves me correctly.

In 2020 us was slow for 20 minutes, but there were a few rural counties that counted very fast and had almost everything in within 30 minutes, which was the early signs that Trump would hold up fine in rural areas. Larger counties took far longer and by the time those were done, we had a celaré picture of where things were headed.

And let's not forget about the "blue wave cancelled" scare after KY-06 was coming in and McGrath wasn't pulling the numbers she needed to.

Some actual results

Absolutely nobody voted for Bolduc. It means literally nothing, but I very immaturely find that hilarious.

Fun Fact: Don Bolduc and Ash Ketchum got the same number of votes from Dixville in 2022! Strange but true!

Some of the previous tweets from that account were talking about comparing turnout to the 2021 gubernatorial race, which seems weird to me.

Wouldn't we expect turnout to equal or surpass the gubernatorial election anyway?

But not Presidential Levels.
The General Guideline in all elections that I have witnessed is:
Unpopular Government + High Turnout = Change.

Ayy sixteen pages in and we have our first newbie Smiley

Some stuff should come out around 5 PM ET. There won't be any exits from specific races for a while though.

We do need exit polls to break up the monotony of Guam dooming and Clark County dooming, so that we can doom instead about contradictory statistics from the early exit polls, some of which will be carefully chosen by the media presenters to make it appear like Republican turnout is good, and others of which will be carefully chosen by the media presenters to make it appear like Democratic turnout is good.

Won’t be long until we get some meltdowns in here over useless exit polls that we tell ourselves every year we aren’t going to look at anymore!
Us on election night before polls close is normal people watching the super bowl if they somehow had a feed an hour early but it only had 10 pixels.
