What Menendez needs to do is just retire at this point. He's going to put this seat at risk, even in a presidential year.

Menendez told the New Jersey Globe last September that he planned to seek re-election to a fourth full term in 2024.
Quote
“As he continues to help other Democrats in New Jersey and nationally, the senator has also begun to focus on his own re-election campaign,” said Michael Soliman, Menendez’s top political advisor.  “He has always been a strong fundraiser.”

Ugh. It's time for a new (non corrupt) generation of NJ Dems to take over at this point. Sherrill and Kim both have strong statewide potential.

Very expected, and I wish Menendez would not run in 2024 to make room for her.

True, I think Sherrill would be a better fit for Governor and maybe Kim for senate.

Dems need to go ahead and remove him from the party line on the ballot if he won't resign himself.

LMAO it is so Joever for Menendez now. Hopefully no other Dem jumps in to make this a clowncar and lets Kim take it seriously so he can beat Menendez, which is the very likely scenario here.

I also never bought Sherrill for senate either, she's seem to been gunning for Gov.

Disappointing to see people like Durbin and Gregory Meeks of NY dance around it and not explicity call for resignation.

Democrats cannot hold the moral high ground with Trump if they let something like this go. Of course, Trump's is way more serious than Menendez, but the point stands. And with Menendez it's even more egregious because he was corrupt back in 2018 too.

Sherrod Brown has now called for Menendez's resignation too.

No, which is disappointing.

This would be extremely stupid and tone deaf. If you want Menendez gone, you need to only have *one* opponent for him. Increasing the field will just make it more likely that he gets away with like 30% of the vote.

I honestly don't really see a problem with Gottheimer donating money to Menendez Jr? His son, while unsurprisingly defending his dad, doesn't seem to have any issues of his own and doesn't seem to be involved in any of his dads situation.

I wonder if some Dems were waiting for his press conference yesterday to see how they were going to respond.

If Menendez did step down, who would Murphy appoint?

He almost certainly knew that his father was engaging in bribery. If your father was getting $200k a year on the side I think it would be apparent.

Not that Menendez Jr is responsible and his father taking bribes is normal to him, but he's not totally divorced from the situation.

Sure, but people knew Menendez was shifty already and Menendez Jr. got voted in overwhelmingly last year despite his familial ties.

Senator Bennet is #11, Klobuchar is #12, Mark Kelly #13,

IDK how Menendez survives this, you're going to have the entire caucus soon and probably Schumer then.

This article really doesn't track given that most of the NJ Dems have asked him to resign, and now most Senate Dems are doing it as well.

I mean it's been no secret that Sherrill was going to run for GOV in 2025.

I like Pallone, but there cannot be any vote splintering in this primary if Menendez is to be ousted.

Exactly. If menendez ends up resigning, then sure, go at it. But getting in against Kim while Menendez is still there is just unnecessary.

If Menendez doesn't intend to resign today in his speech to Dems, then I'm just gonna need Schumer to finally come out and call for it. Enough of this charade.
