I wonder if some Dems were waiting for his press conference yesterday to see how they were going to respond.

Very proud of Booker for that statement. I had seen a couple of tweets speculating that he was afraid of the repercussions of calling for Menendez's resignation, but it appears that the tide has turned in a big way.

Dear lord, I know I don’t pray much, but PLEASE, PLEASE let this be the spark that ignites the fire that is Bob Menendez resigning

Have a flood of Democratic Senators now, at 9.

No calls from Durbin or Schummer as of yet.

If Menendez did step down, who would Murphy appoint?

Plot twist: he gives Jon Corzine his seat back!

He is term limited, I wonder if he would go for the self appoint.

I honestly don't really see a problem with Gottheimer donating money to Menendez Jr? His son, while unsurprisingly defending his dad, doesn't seem to have any issues of his own and doesn't seem to be involved in any of his dads situation.

He almost certainly knew that his father was engaging in bribery. If your father was getting $200k a year on the side I think it would be apparent.

Not that Menendez Jr is responsible and his father taking bribes is normal to him, but he's not totally divorced from the situation.

Sure, but people knew Menendez was shifty already and Menendez Jr. got voted in overwhelmingly last year despite his familial ties.

Senator Bennet is #11, Klobuchar is #12, Mark Kelly #13,

IDK how Menendez survives this, you're going to have the entire caucus soon and probably Schumer then.

Easy: he just rides out his term doing nothing, stripped of committee assignments, etc. I don't think it's a particularly appealing proposition if you care about a) your reputation or b) your work, but it's clear Menendez doesn't.

More accurate to say that Menendez Jr. got voted in overwhelmingly because of his familial ties. In urban machines constituent services are often excellent and voters can benefit from the institution. For all his corruption, the Menendez name is worth a lot in Hudson County and Rob Jr. benefitted.

Since Menendez is NJ’s first Latino Senator, I’d imagine there’s gonna be a lot of pressure on Murphy to appoint a Latino to his seat.

That door closed over the weekend, when the leader gave his base marching orders. The GOP just wants him to remain the 2024 nominee, so they can win a shock flip.

This article really doesn't track given that most of the NJ Dems have asked him to resign, and now most Senate Dems are doing it as well.

Man, Republicans will take absolutely any opportunity to defend corruption--even when it's a slam dunk opportunity to sh*t on Democrats.
