There are certain things though that anyone who posts on a forum like Atlas should be smart enough to not buy into and deserve ridicule if brought up for how much they degrade the quality of analysis here. Such as claiming that Western Pennsylvania is full of "Reagan Democrats" or the poll re-weighting garbage we saw last year.

What's being discussed above does not necessarily fall into that category of course.

He has the right to not offer contraceptives in the insurance plans his company offers its employees.  I think threatening to close down the stores is going way too far, but the government has no right to fight him over his religious belief.  Any other employer could probably choose not to offer contraceptives for non-religious reasons and the government would have no problem with it.  Seems like the government is trying to outlaw any kind of religious expression in the public arena.

Bush was a genius on foreign policy and a mastermind on taxes. Any dumb ass from the street could've been stuffed into a suit to give Obama's speeches as long as they have a good voice. President Bush is a very admirable man who would do whatever he thought was best for our nation regardless of what Democrats said.

Eh, that's technically true and not exactly absurd, ignorant or bad. The CIA didn't really have any direct involvement in the coup aside from perhaps learning about it beforehand and not bothering to do anything about it. Plenty of anti-Allende propaganda and campaigns before the election and the coup yeah, but not much with the actual coup, which would've happened with or without CIA approval. It certainly wasn't like Iran or Guatemala. Of course the US's friendly policy toward the Pinochet regime afterwards is most certainly something that no excuses can be made for.

one of my theories is that the dems will turn more into the Al Sharpton party which will cause a lot of white liberal defections to the GOP. So the dems then become a patronage-ridden race hustling party while the republicans become the white liberal party. You already see this type of stuff happening in New York to some extent.

Not the point. New video games only cost about $60. That's barely over a dollar a day between now and its release. I make well over $60 even before bonuses and overtime and after taxes per day. A video game (as opposed to a console) should not have all your money going to it.

He does nothing but give false hope to those going through problems. His trick is an old technique called cold reading. His audience is wired before he goes on stage and there are people in the audience with scripted questions. Not only does he lie and give them false hope but at the same time he is slowing down the progress of mankind. Sooner or later someone is bound to relate to his extremely vague claims. But, Scott, there is a neopagan, pantheist variant of liberal Christianity, and it's a real problem in several of the mainline churches.

I'm not familiar with any liberal churches that could be considered neopagan or pantheistic (are you sure you don't mean panenetheistic?).  And even assuming those churches do exist, I had interpreted Cathcon's post as a label on all liberal mainline churches, which I would obviously resent.

He's probably referring to John Spong and a couple other theologians along the same vein, not any particular church. Although there are a couple syncretistic sects that combined Christian theology with a sort of pantheism, but I've never heard of them being considered mainline.

As usual, you miss the point. If it was discovered that debit card transactions didn't affect one's account balance (i.e. weren't recorded by your bank) due to an electronic glitch, do you really believe for a second that the reaction to get free stuff while the opportunity presented itself would be any different at all? Or only "moochers" with food stamp cards act this way?

Of course. Most common men are honorable folk. There seems to be much less honor among moochers and thieves.
