Some have suggested that Murphy dropping out would kill Kim’s standing in his lawsuit, allowing The Line to survive in the immediate-term; can any of our legal folks explain if this is true?

There are legit args that were made by the county clerks in court that the judge is still considering right now about "laches" & whether or not Kim waiting for his first real non-speculative injury at the Passaic convention actually counterintuitively means that he already has no standing because he waited too long to file a challenge to the already-prescribed rules in the context of an election lawsuit, but in any event, the judge could still rule on the basis of the Line presenting a question that meets the "capable of repetition yet evading review" exception.

Andy Kim is an unsung hero for democracy, especially if by some odd chance this was all planned from the beginning (in which case, thank you Tammy Murphy).

This is one of the biggest political developments in recent New Jersey history. Especially if the line is done.

New Jersey is finally moving into modern, post-machine politics.

Also, just remembered that Kim has those 2 co-plaintiff House candidates who are still able to demonstrate the irreparable harm to them that's necessary for securing an emergency injunction from the judge, if they indeed have standing.

Well, the seat is now safer. The only obstacle to Kim would be if Menandez is totally exonorated, but even that likely won't do anything.

Looking forward to Senator Kim! Even if it did cost us what could have been an interesting primary. We'll get an interesting gubernatorial primary next year at least.

I have a bit of a hot-take though: Tammy Murphy dropping out now looks worse for her than if she were to stay in and risk losing to Kim. Her calling it quits demonstrates that she was always reliant on machine politics...which she was, but if she wants to run for some other office in the future, it makes perceptions of her even worse.

I understand your reasoning, but at this rate she was likely going to lose by a wide margin.

She was risking complete political humiliation, not just a loss.

It made sense for her to drop out now.

I guess her hope is that the line remains, or at least the people running the machines now and who may still have big political sway will back her for something in the future

Notable considering the Globe reported that he was made aware of the deal last night to call into the meeting with county chairs this morning:

So, she was unwilling to wage a negative campaign against a fellow Democrat and that's why she drops out.
Girl, you did nothing but attack and smear that fellow Democrat and everyone who supported him for the past couple of months or so. Don't piss down on our backs and then say it's raining.
