Quite a few mayors of smaller towns/suburbs being acclaimed, like Trent in Westmount.

My mayor and councillor won unopposed, so I don't have to vote. Democracy doesn't require much work on my part...

In not political facts, if I go five generation before me (around 1800) I have a common ancestor with Mélanie Joly. And reading about her lately, her father was in charge of the finance committee of the federal Liberal party Quebec wing (in the period covered by Gomery).

They've been counting advance votes for 2 hours in Montreal, so we may get some quick results when polls close in a couple of minutes.

Is Coderre trying to blackmail the Hasidic community or Is he just selling his list of candidates? It's a pretty brash way to campaign, it feels too "your with us or your against us and we won't forget"

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/denis-coderre-video-sparks-criticism-1.2324970

Oh; only one municipal list/party has a full slate, Project Montreal has 102 candidates, the next closest is Equipe Coderre (basically Union) at 99, Coalition Mtl (basically Vision) 96... then Joly with 55. So I think any of the first three could theoretically win a majority, realistically no.

Piper Huggins, former PM councillor in Jeanne-Mance in Plateau is now running under Coalition banner, Must have had a major falling out, was an NDP candidate in 2000 and 2004 Federals

Seems like Coderre was trying to convince the Hassidic not to vote for Pollak ?

She is running in Claude-Ryan district in Outremont for a borough council seat. Another thing on my watch list to add.

An article says Huggins left after PM refuse to go along with a resolution to protect a garden, she says was victim of bullying. The party says they had chosen another person to run instead of her. The other candidate seems to be someone who works for the party in Plateau. She is running for Coalition in Jeanne Mance but for city council instead of borough council so she faces Alex Norris of PM.

Lots of people complain of PM borough mayor so maybe he is not very safe.

Labeaume projected the winner in Quebec, so far Montreal results are close to the polls.

Apparently Bergeron is behind by 15% in his own Ville-Marie seat. Teddy says the council results so far are 33 EDC, 8 VM, 9 CM, 5 other.

He is running against a CM incumbent.

Why didn't he run in his home district?

Most likely he wanted to help his party gain a seat, or just wanted to not seat and retire if he doesn't win the mayorship.

Makes sense if you think about it. Very crowded field, splitting the anti-Coderre vote.

Meanwhile in Gatineau, Action Gatineau is leading if 5 of 18 seats. Not bad. Aylmer hasn't even reported yet, and it's the District I'm most interested in.

Probably winning three seats for Démocratie Québec in Quebec city is a win (there were two councillors not for Labeaume before) and there are less districts now.

In Gatineau mayor Bureau's strategy of avoiding media might not have be too good it seems.

I'm trying to find something interesting so looking at Saint-Jean, in early results, Fecteau (they guy who decided to organized aid operation to flood victims) is leading followed by Bachand (ex MP) and Legrand (VP executive committee).

Gatineau's mayor race is surprising. I thought Bureau was a good mayor, but apparently he is hated. Not disappointed that he is losing to the left wing candidate though. It will be difficult for Pedneaud-Jobin if he wins, as his party only leads in 4 of 18 seats.

ECM now down to 35 seats leading, Coderre at only 35% now. Either way I'd expect Coderre to have a working or de jure council majority.

So maybe it's a vote more for him than the party (or the mayor was too invisible during the campaign). Liberals will pull their hair since he is a péquiste apparently.
