HOT TAKE UPCOMING:

The looters aren't wrong because they engage in looting/violence but because it serves no purpose/harms your own cause.

Looting isn't in any way moral or defendable. Not sure why you're defending it.

It can be of course, in this situation as it serves no purpose so it isn’t moral or defendable

The footage of that Target being ransacked is going to be the subject of countless of dogwhistle-filled ads by far-right candidates for the next few years. All because people couldn't wait to see the inevitable filing of murder charges.

At the same time, can you really blame them? Not only do you have the cases of Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and the attempted lynching of Christian Cooper, but the area was also home to Philando Castile. We had a police brutality incident where a man effectively got away with murder three years ago because he shot someone for doing what every gun owner should have done.

As far as I'm concerned, Castile is only dead because the pig that pulled him over thought that black people didn't have Second Amendment rights.

And still there are people who seriously think it's a good idea to have cops confiscating people's guns because "safety"...

It’s insane, it’s like liberals don’t want the poor/working class black or white to be armed and want them to be subservient to the police

Two things:

Firstly, how does a bunch of nasty little yobs running riot and smashing up their city advance the cause of equal treatment for black people?

Secondly, any quote that’s been cropped out of context, embossed on a black background and situated next to a solemn looking photo has probably been used and abused to the point at which it’s not worth reading anyway.

1. Never said it does- the riots are counter-productive and stupid. Focusing on the riots as anything but the legitimate vent of frustrations of police brutality is ignoring the problem and obfuscating on the issue of police brutality.

But you just they are counter productive and stupid......

yes? the riots are bad because they are counter-productive and stupid not because they’re riots in it of themselves

Atlanta is the capital of Black Capitalism, of course, it was going have a lot of people upset. It was also going to have a lot of people try to take advantage of the situation as well.

Is it? Why is Atlanta rather than DC or NYC?

You know a part of this is a fault of democrats themselves not attacking police unions and reforming police at a state/local level which is possible, especially in fycking Minneapolis.

I’m seeing Center-leftists in aus talking about the problems with less cost policing and police brutality in Australia for the first time. It hasn’t reached the moderate-sphere here though while George Floyd and the police brutality in the us has

So do I have this right, he's being charged with 2nd degree murder in addition to 3rd degree murder? I've read some articles that say the charge has been "upgraded" and others that say he's being charged with both. I didn't think you could charge someone with two different degrees of murder for the same killing, but Minnesota's murder laws appear to be somewhat funky.

If it's only 2nd degree murder, oh god.
