I was just thinking that a blue Georgia surrounded by red North Carolina and Florida would look really weird on a map.  I guess the same is true for blue Illinois when the Midwest votes Republican, though, so we'll get used to it.

What's going on in Alaska and North Carolina?  I'd like to get the calls done that I actually feel good about before one of the others get called and it's officially over.
AP said they won't call NC before more of the provisional and mail votes are counted. Alaska is bizarre, I think people just forgot it's there

Alaska is almost certainly Trump/Sullivan, but they won't start counting mail-in ballots until November 10 (idk why) so they can't technically call it because hypothetically Biden and Gross could get enough mail-in votes to win.

The Republicans aren't acting like they share Atlas doomers' confidence about Pennsylvania.

I was gonna say: the election isn't over yet.  The numbers alone may not look super duper for Trump, but it's perhaps telling that these voices are already screaming about how PA was "stolen".

At least wait until the noon vote-drop before spewing your nonsense, Newt*.

This is absolute dangerous non-sense.  They are counting votes.  Why don't Republicans want votes to be counted?

Because if all the votes are counted they will lose.

Sorry, what I meant was they're not acting like they share Atlas doomers' confidence about Pennsylvania for Trump. They're only screaming about states where they're behind being "stolen".

There does seem to be a sense among the analysts and politicians that the writing is on the wall in PA. I get the sense that they realize it'll take a miracle for Trump to win with the outstanding ballots that are left, but stranger things have happened so everyone is still on edge.

Oh, I see why there was some panic. Apparently people thought there were over 700,000 votes left in PA when its actually only 488,000 votes.

GA even after the results today are going to be a nightmare for a while.  They still have provisionals all over the state, military ballots, along with cured ballots which haven't been counted yet.  So no one count chickens, Especially if Biden pulls into a lead.

That alone nets Biden 130-140k. Trump ain't winning Pennsylvania.

Word on the street (or Twitter) is that Trump's numbers aren't encouraging in Arizona and if future batches of votes are less favorable then it won't look good for him. But there is still a chance he eeks out a win if everything goes right for him.

(I'm gonna be annoying from now until the end of the election and ask people to source what they're hearing.  Nothing personal! And I'm not doubting you! It just helps to have some verification).

Who's saying this on Twitter, DC?

These 200000 are counted but not posted, right?

Guys, it doesn’t matter if there were 700k left to count or 488k (the correct number as of this morning).

The trajectory was always the same:

Biden was expected to end with +90k statewide in both cases, the difference is that 212k more votes have been counted in between but the 700k number left wasn’t updated on the DOS Dashboard ...

I'm thinking we get the call by the end of the day, whether it be through AZ+NV, PA, or (probably least likely but looking increasingly plausible) GA.

Yeah, can’t see how Trump holds on here. Philly alone will virtually wipe out his entire lead. And I think Bucks will push Biden over the edge if not in Philly.

So Dave Wasserman is saying he doesn’t believe there are only 120k uncounted ballots in Philadelphia. That would be a decrease in turnout there

Just out of curiosity:

Is there any sense of talks in United States about changing this outdated eclection system? To be honest it is extremely hard to find  valid reasons in todays world that one of the two candidates may lead by millions of votes but potentially losing the US election.

Or is this no discussion at all? What would be required to change this - 2/3 in Congress? (of course will never happen).

Welcome, friend!

So there has been discussion about change.  But one of the biggest roadblocks is a sense of "well this is the way things have always been" and "we shouldn't let the population centers decide the Presidency".

Increasingly I'm thinking this is a counted/reported issue, like in Georgia.

This has been being talked about all the time since 2016, and while you’d have to change the constitution to get rid of the electoral college, there is a way around it: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Popular_Vote_Interstate_Compact

Because Republicans prioritize power (and their ability to abuse it) over rule of law or democracy. Where have you been the last few decades?

Isn’t Philly a city that is shrinking in population ?

If the population of a city is shrinking (especially because of American citizens moving out), raw turnout could decrease, while other parts of the country see an increase.

Also, ballots are being received in PA today and tomorrow.

There could be slightly more than 120.000 left then.
