Mitt Romney has had some great polling news lately- he was tied with Barack Obama nationally in a Rasmussen survey on Monday and a Gallup poll last week showed him with an early lead for the 2012 GOP nomination.

Our last two national polls are starting to show a trend that wouldn't bode too well for his chances of surviving the Republican primary contest though: he lags the other hopefuls in his popularity among conservative party voters.

Our poll this month showed 81% of conservative Republicans with a favorable opinion of Sarah Palin with 73% having a positive one about Mike Huckabee and 72% doing the same for Newt Gingrich. But for Romney the figure is just 58%.

That fits the same general trend as our June survey. Then 83% viewed Palin favorably to 79% for Huckabee, 77% for Gingrich, and 69% for Romney.

It's just two polls and we'll have to follow the trend to see if it continues, but Romney is well behind his fellow contenders in popularity among conservative Republicans, and obviously those are the voters who dominate GOP primary electorates.

So, we have two parties tearing the sh**t out of each other. We could have four parties by 2012-

Democratic Party- Obama/Biden
Republican Party-  Romney/Collins
American Nationalist Party- Palin/Jindal
Chrisitian Democrat Party- Boren/Cooper

Democratic Party- Obama/Biden
Republican Party-  Romney/Collins
National Republican Party- Palin/Jindal
Southern Democratic Party- Boren/Cooper

Only three of those parties would last the election. Watch how Cooper and other southern democrats do without the black vote.

They have pro-life Hispanics and working class pro-life moderates... they can basically be the party for Pro-Life Democrats. Tongue as Romney could be the party of Pro-Choice Republicans. Abortion Abortion..........................................Abortion. Tongue

Well Romney is not really pro-choice anymore, and I doubt anyone who cares much about that issue either way would put much trust in him.

As for Pro-life hispanic and working class democrats, they also tend to be left-wing on economic issues, which is not where the whole blue dog caucus is. Furthermore, while in a PR system it might work, most of the conservative democrats are in the south where they need black votes.

Romney can be a conservative Republican in order to win the nomination, then, once he has the nomination, he can become a moderate, with conservative principles, in order to appeal to conservatives, moderates, and independents.

That's a nice acceptance of the primary reason why people hate Romney.

Yes indeed, these mansion sales could be just the beginning of Mitt Romney's latest political metamorphosis. By the time the election rolls around expect him to be working as a black community organizer on the south side of Chicago.

I disagree.  Romney is in it to win.  Everything he has ever done in life he has been in it to win.  One cannot win the Presidency with the conservative Republican vote alone.  A Republican must appeal to conservtives, moderates, and independents, in order to win the Presidency.  It's just smart politics.  After all is said and done, should Romney become the nominee, and I am not overly certain he will be nominee, but if he is, he will nail down the vast share of the conservative vote, so, to win, he will then have to go after moderates and independents.

The problem within the Republican Party is that the conservative element has too much clout in choosing the nominee.  They tend to want a down the line conservative, thereby eliminating any chance they have of winning the Presidency.  That's why the Republican party needs a candidate of Romney's credentials and caliber.

He's the only one who has a general appeal.

Besides, save the Sotomayor comment, he's been a very intelligent and rational person of late.

Did the poll ask people if they were "socially conservative", "fiscally conservative", both, or simply "conservative"?

Point taken. Still though, does anybody really care what social conservatives think nowdays?

Ehh....I would if they castrated themselves at their demonstrations...if someone cares that much about other people, maybe they should be taken seriously...but only then.

Well, not me.

But anyways...I guess I was half making a point, half asking a legitimate question.  I'm curious as to what language the poll used.  I went to the PPP site, but couldn't locate it.

Well yeah.......but I would still say "screw you" and enact my extreme socially far left agenda.
