I think Rasmussens poll is a little high. Rubio should be in the mid twenties.

Crist asks Bill young to apply to be the next senator:

http://www.swingstateproject.com/diary/5443/flsen-fl10-crist-asks-young-to-apply-for-senate-appointment

Bill Young is hesitant to say yes, because he will be forced to retire after Crist wins his 2010 election.  I hope that, because of this, Crist will try to challenge Nelson in 2012.

He asked him to apply to be chosen. He didn't chose him, he's asking everyone who is a candidate to fill out an application.

Who did apply then?

For someone Young's age, resigning in 2010 will be no big deal, he was probably going to resign in 2010 anyway, as he wasn't raising any money for 2010 and has a solid Democratic challenger in Charlie Justice or whatever his name is

Isn't Bill Young like 500 years old? Why would he even run for a full term?

The only candidate being interviewed that really stands out is state rep Jennifer Carroll, for obvious reasons.

I don't think being dressed up as a lollipop qualifies you for the Senate.

And I don't think people who dress like this should be in congress...

Somehow I suspect the optics of Crist appointing a younger [than him] African-American female on the condition that she near-immediately resigns for an older white man will discourage Jennifer Carroll's selection.

It also sets up a politically dangerous special election in Young's congressional seat, which Obama won.

Although this is a "swing" district. On a local level it is republican. In the 2008 elections Pinellas (the county this district is in) Republicans won most open elections and defended all of their seats.
The only liberal areas are parts of St. Petersburg that are in this district (the very liberal sections are in district 11).

Also Republicans out numbered Democrats until the 2008 election. Also the Pinellas Republican party is a lot stronger than the local democrat party.

Here's an article about 2008 county elections:http://www2.tbo.com/content/2008/nov/05/na-republicans-sweep-pinellas/

yeah but the Democrats already have Charlie Justice, a top quality candidate, in the mix who will give Young a run for his money should he run again for his own district [not helped by the fact that Young has no money].

I'm not too worried. He has 438K cash on hand.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/scorecard/0409/Cue_the_Bill_Young_retirement_rumors.html

people who are taking their reelection seriously usually try and raise at least $1 in any given quarter, especially when faced with a legitimate challenger in a purple district

If Young was going to retire, why not retire in '06 or '08?  Why wait until now?

And the ACORN controversies provide another line of attack for Rubio

Maybe he has a sudden health problem?
