Finalist cities are Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, and Tokyo.  The decision will be announced October 2, 2009.

No effect.

I hope Chi-town wins, tho.  Madrid and Rio would be good picks, too.

What small effect Obama's presidency could possibly have will likely be negative.

The global lovefest for Obama and strange fascination the world has with him might have some effect.  Olympic bids are highly politically charged.  And it's not just a U.S. bid... it's Chicago's bid.

I doubt Obama's election will have any effect on the IOC's decision, but you never know.

Chicago will be tough because 2012 will be in London, and they might not want to hold the games in two consecutive English-speaking nations.

There's drawbacks to all candidates...

Madrid: two consecutive western European nations
Tokyo: 8 years after another Asian country, plus they might want the 2018 winter games in S. Korea
Rio: 2 years after the World Cup (although Atlanta '96 was 2 years after the World Cup) and the weakest infrastructure of all candidates

My money's on Rio.

No, but it would be cool way for him to leave the Presidency with the Olympics in his hometown.
