Maybe has potential for a Howard Beale moment.

I see you reference that 2-3 times a month but don't really know what it is

Ever seen Network?

If "no", then buy, beg, borrow or steal copy and watch it. Though maybe some of the Beale rants are on youtube.

Webb is one of those special rare people with no redeeming qualities.

Except that he apparently has some talent as a writer.

He was only in office for a little while, and, according to Reagan, when he left,

FF -I'm satisfied enough with him in office, and if he were to run for another term (particularly against George Allen), he would have my vote in a heart-beat.

It was over budget cuts regarding the 600 ship Navy strategic plan. Webb was against the cuts.

The last time we reduced our military significantly, we ended up in WWII.  I'd like to try and avoid that.

We're not heading towards WWII type conditions so we don't need one. Right now the big powers are consolidating and not really plotting against each other with the exception of india/pakistan which is different.

Maybe, but I'm just too paranoid to let our guard down.

After 9/11, a little paranoia when it comes to cutting the military is a good thing.

Half of the reason 9/11 even happened was because we intervened in Iraq and Afghanistan in the '80s-early '90s.

Certainly not. Look where the big military has gotten us. And what NDN said.
