Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Polk and Lincoln were all good.

I voted Lincoln.

I voted Lincoln, but Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Adams, Jackson, Polk, Hayes, Arthur, Cleveland, and McKinley were also good Presidents.

Depends on what you mean by great.  Lincoln was certainly one of our better Presidents, but he had the advantage of a crisis to accentuate his good points.  I voted Cleveland.

They all have had their flaws, But so far Lincoln is the only real unique one. Though he was lucky and had the Civil War to bounce off from.

Abraham Lincoln -and it's a pity he couldn't live to oversee the Reconstruction of the South after the Civil War ended.

The fact remains he totally deserved what was coming to him.

Jefferson by a long shot.  Lincoln and Buchanan were by far the worst.  It's a shame we've all been brainwashed to believe Lincoln was one of the best Presidents.

Not all of us. Wink

Lincoln is really the only option.

So, you think imprisoning opposition newspaper editors, destroying the Constitution, and inflicting genocide on Indians and Southerners is the only option?

I picked Cleveland, since he was a strong supporter of the gold standard and vetoed anything unconstitutional.

BTW, States' Rights, do you by any chance have Lincoln Unmasked, by Thomas J. DiLorenzo? If you don't I'd recommend purchasing it. You'd really enjoy it.

The fact remains that the south would have been a hell of a lot better off with the gracious guidance of Lincoln than with what we ended up with.

The Confederate traitors who were killed in battle deserved what was coming to them.    Its a shame that our Union boys didn't manage to shoot the rest of the traitors so that our part of the country wouldn't have to be a third-world backwater for the next 100 years.

Just in case people are still voting Lincoln, remember the execution of Indians he carried out and the only reason he stopped was to keep the British from getting in the war:

Even though the United States was founded on the idea of secession? Even though Sherman's army killed innocent civilians who wanted nothing to do with the war?

Virginia, Rhode Island, and New York were admitted to the Union under the pretext that they could secede at any time.
