A vote against this, whether you like it or not and whether you think so or not, was a vote against the removal of regional senate seats.  The writing was on the wall and regionalists proved once again that we have fight inside of us.  We do not want change simply for the sake of change itself.

The regions would have lost power in the amendment process and its a great thing that that was stopped from happening

You keep proclaiming the same things Smiley

I still don't understand how regional seats have anything to do with regional sovereignity, legally speaking.

I'm not contesting that legality this amendment and regional senate seats have nothing to do with each other, but it does not erase the fact that practically they do

Again, that's not what I'm saying.

I'm asking why regional sovereignity would be affected by the manner in which the federal Senate is elected.

Constitutions are not supposed to be easy to change.

Yeah, getting a change approved by two-thirds of the Senate, three-fifths of voters and a majority of regions is definitely way too simple.
I'm glad we agree

Ohhh, gotcha Smiley

The regions may be artifical boundaries, but to many they are not.  For example, conservatives have long gathered in the Dirty South and liberals in the Pacific.  This allows each of these regions to represent a person who represents their beliefs in the senate.  Sometimes, an upset occurs but usually this holds true.  The regions represent certain ideological views and each one deserves a representative of that.  An all at-large senate means that the constituency represented in the regions may not hold true in the senate.

Alright, fair answer Wink, even if I may see it differently.

For example, conservatives have long gathered in the Dirty South and liberals in the Pacific.

Some of us might contend that in fact it's not that those groups have gathered there, but that others have left those regions which has solidified those particular 'regional identities' and that that in itself is a tellingly negative phenomenon.

I dont understand why people are allowed to move at all really. Rather than banning someone from moving for a time, why not ban them from being elected for a time after moving, IE not allowing anyone to be elected to any federal office 90 days after a move.

In the past when activity was almost dead there were instances when if a person didn't move to take a seat it would have been vacant. Well it doesn't seem possible now, we shouldn't constrict ourselves just in case.

Or you could just, you know, fix the circumstances that would lead to such a thing.

Having been rejected by the Northeast, Pacific and Southeast, the amendment has failed.

Overall Tally
Grin 36 (48%)
Angry 35 (46.7%)
Undecided 4   (5.3%)

Party Breakdown
Turnout Ĥ% in favour
DA55.6%100%
LNF75%88.9%
JCP28.6%80%
ARC50%16.7%
PCP51.9%7.4%

Comment:
Compared to the recent Presidential/Senatorial elections, JCP turnout collapsed everywhere outside the Northeast. RPP turnout was poor until the latter end of the campaign when that vote took a relatively sudden surge bringing it up to comparable levels of turnout as the recent elections. DA turnout held up in the Northeast but was down somewhat everywhere else. LNF turnout down marginally.

The RPP and JCP both exhibited regional differences of opinion within the party. A number of RPP votes were cast either for or abstaining on the amendment in the Mideast, but the party was uniformly opposed elsewhere. The JCP had a 50-50 split in the Pacific compared to 100% approval everywhere else for the party.

Turnout Table
Mideast24/3764.9%
Northeast24/5147.1%
Atlasia75/17243.6%
Southeast10/2441.7%
Midwest10/2835.7%
Pacific7/3221.9%

Notes:
1 Sturm is not a registered voter.
2 East Coast Republican has been banned from voting by Court Order. However, he cast this vote before the Order was issued, so not sure on it's validity. It is provisionally included in this count and was certified as a valid vote by Lt. Gov. Brandon H.
3 Turnout is primarily derived on the latest DoFA data on regional and party numbers.
4 Certified by Gov. AndrewCT as a 9-13 result, rather than 11-13 as indicated here. Following a re-check, this is presumed to be a typo in the certification.

Noted, however policy here is to classify according to status as and when the vote was cast, as may be noted from previous Tracker efforts.

Jas did you mistake the NE with ME in your analysis. Evry RPPer who turned out in the NE voted No.

lol that it didn't even reach 50% and Marokai though this would be a moral victory cause it had so many supporters at the beginning in the nationwide percentage.
