Wow, between the two, Jas is tied for second, 7-2-2! Perhaps we have a serious Atlasian upset on our hands?

Polnut is widely expected to win the primary, it's by how much that matters.

Really? I wouldntve imagined, although I guess Jas is a little more centrist. Youre right though.

I think its because of the fact that Polnut was an idiot last time around and actually dropped out once he lost the primary. People want to give him a chance and because they don't want him to be an idiot and drop out again they are voting for him in the primary. That and there is a general leftist base within the progressive primary that no centrist could win. Remember that I only won mostly because of my connections and support from the JCP.

There are also people out there who vote more for vice presidential than for presidential candidates. Jas won votes that wouldn't be accessible to either you or Mr Moderate in that segment. [/draws conclusions about others based on self]

I see. Your second point is more key than your first (which is entirely your theory). I withdrew from the race, because of the "endorsement" of the JCP for you meant I lost enough progressive base support, that I knew I couldn't possibly win.

Good to see that the JCP still exerts an influence in these troubled times.

Good for JCP members....but is it good for the rest of Atlasia? This is the million dollar question.

I don't see why it wouldn't be.  We haven't pushed anything out of the mainstream.

All the polling has showed Polnut ahead.

Polnut's a good guy (and heck I agree with him on most matters of policy) and he can run a campaign - I just don't get why his support is so high.

It seems I'm losing to a guy who was a Governor of a dying region a year ago;
has no experience of or even dealings with the federal government;
who has little or nothing to show as being more liberal than me on either social or economic positions of any relevance to the Presidency;
whose forum affairs stances are either unworkable (the budget) or simply tinkering with my own adopted proposals (citizen's initiative);
and has really only made occasional appearances in Atlasia to run unsuccessful election campaigns in the past year.

It's actually quite depressing.

I don't think it's vicious.
I also think I've said essentially the same things already at one point or other, and most importantly, I think it's all true.

I'm starting to think twice of my vote for you in the primary, I don't like personal attacks, and certainly not against a decent governor and intelligent person like PolNut.

It seems I'm losing to a guy who was a Governor of a dying region a year ago;
has no experience of or even dealings with the federal government;
Not only did he preside over the near-death, nay, death of the Mideast Region, he actively encouraged it with unconstitutional and anti-democratic actions - he failed to hold elections to the Governorship in January 2007, delaying by a month simply because he forgot to hold them. He essentially had installed himself as a dictator for a month.

(Before anybody accuses me of not mentioning this before, I have, but nobody listens to me anymore)

His proposals whilst Governor were utterly useless - they bore no relation to our existence as an online community, and he took absolutely no real action to help reverse the tide of Atlasia's decline other than to occassionally say:

"People - TWO votes apart from myself that is just not good enough."1

As though somehow it wasn't his job to encourage voter participation in elections - frankly I wouldn't have voted on that proposition had I been active at the time - it bears no relation to Atlasia as an online community and as an issue it was not likely to foster any debate or activism on the part of citizens.

He is the epitome of incompetence - and lets demonstrate it.

In May 2007, Governor Polnut proposed the Mideast Civil Partnership Proposition, which then passed into Law. Of course, to anybody with even a basic understanding of Atlasian affairs knows that all Law pertaining to civil partnerships/marriages is a federal matter. In other words, after having been Governor for 8 months, he didn't actually know what the division of power between the federal government and the Regions was.

He is an idiot. And its time he got called on it.

I meant nothing by it, it was merely a misunderstanding. I must say, Im far from impressed by your Clintonite "I deserve the presidency" tone here, Jas.

I think that comment is unfair. I don't believe that I deserve the Presidency, but I have spent too long in Atlasia and worked too hard to see it gifted to someone who I think isn't worthy of the office. The Presidency was never an office I've greatly aspired to. Were there a candidate I trusted; a candidate who I felt was competent; a candidate who would work hard for Atlasia; a candidate I felt could win then I simply wouldn't be in this race.

If I thought for one moment that Polnut would make a good President, I would not be in this contest. But his record in Atlasia strikes me as so lacklustre and so unproductive that I can't stand idly by. I care too much about Atlasia to simply roll over.

The idea that putting Polnut's record of office in Atlasia front and centre;
or criticising his only sometime interest in this nation;
or suggesting that those legislative plans he has put forward are seriously flawed;
the idea that any of these things is inappropriate for a campaign strikes me as utterly negligent.

This isn't a beauty contest, it's the Presidency of Atlasia - I (rightly or wrongly) take that seriously.
Atlasia should be fully aware of what the choices are, like it or not, Mr. Polnut's record is what it is and Atlasians should take strong note of it when they cast their ballots.

I think your awful VP pick has a lot to do with it, Jas.

Regrettably, agreed. You made the mistake of not consulting the people on the left who got Colin elected.

If true, then it's very unfortunate, but I stand by my choice.

Mr. Moderate is a commited Atlasian. He along with Verily have almost themselves alone kept the Northeast region afloat with discussion and voting on their initiatives in recent months. Mr. Moderate is a good Senator - he proposes legislation and amendments, he participates in debates - he is not a radical, he understands compromise. He is to my right politically, but he is as named, a moderate. And speaking as the Vice President, I don't envy anyone willing to take on this office trying to get something done - it's not easy - this office is far from the nexus of Atlasia's political universe.

I asked Mr. Moderate to consider joining the ticket, for one good reason. I know, that if something happened to me, he would be more than capable of handling the Presidency responsibly. He cares about Atlasia, he works hard for Atlasia - if the left can't see that Mr. Moderate is more Presidential than Mr. Polnut then frankly, they need to re-examine things.

This ticket offers experience, competence and credibility through and through. These things are very important to me, but if they're not important to the Atlasian left then so be it. The people will get the representatives they deserve.

There is hardly a record to your claim, as we have never elected a candidate that has less experience than you do now, so Im calling the point moot.
