Slashing pork & corporate welfare, reforming entitlements and instituting tax reform seems like the exact opposite of hating the working class to me.

I am. I fight for freedom against conservatives and socialists.

Straha fights freedom wherever it rears its ugly head.
Now now just because you guys lost WWII and couldn't exterminate everyone who wasn't aryan doesn't give you the right to be snippy towards your betters.

Not all of NDN's economic views are great, but Walter's just as bad on free trade, and he's a nanny statist while NDN isn't against unnecessary government interference in our lives like the government trying to alter people's diet, plus he supports the Bush foreign policy and domestic spying agenda which NDN opposes. So I'd vote NDN and he'd win on the war issue. NDN/NDN

i certainly dont give two craps about people's eating habits.

i am a big fan of voluntary taxation, however.

i think a fast food tax would be good.

Actually just cut out the pork, war on drugs, FCC censorship, entitlements(especially SS, welfare and Medicaid), subsidies, idiotic neocon/humanitarian foreign interventionism and corporate welfare you'd save ALOT of money. No need for yet more taxes.

If you want to impose an extremely regressive tax that mostly only affects the poor and lower middle class it would be.

the same could be said of taxes on tobacco, alcohol and gasoline

Uh, rich people drink, smoke and drive. But I guarantee that most people making six figure salaries don't stop at McDonald's that often.

The only one of those products I think is equivalent of the example though is alcohol, and I oppose taxes on alcohol. The purpose of taxes on gasoline is to pay for road construction and maintenance, and tobacco is a disgusting product with absolutely no health value whatsoever and is impossible to use regularly without addition. However fast food does have health value in the sense that crap food is still better than no food, there's no such thing as second-hand artery clogging, and one Big Mac a week isn't going to cause any significant harm to anyone, nor are they going to develop an addition where they must increase eating Big Macs to fight the equivalent of nicotine fits.

If you don't care about what people eat, then what's the whole point of your moronic idea? Which by the way, stands a snowball's chance in hell of passing in any state, can you imagine how mocked any state legislator would be for proposing it?

*sigh* BRTD, don't bother trying to use logic on do-gooder puritan/progressive(they come from the same strain of thought. Notice how a LARGE chunk of the far left supports various social engineering schemes like banning smoking/taxing cheeseburgers?) types. It won't work at all.

im sure some state legislator somewhere has proposed the idea at some time or another.

Minnesota State Rep. Phyllis Kahn once proposed a bill to lower the voting age to 12.

That doesn't mean it's not a laughably dumb idea, and that it has any remote possibility of ever happening.

WalterMitty, why do you favor policies which would put America down the road of becoming a larger, environmentally cleaner, more physically fit(compulsory exercise) clone of North Korea?

many cities have a 'meals tax'  and an occupancy tax on hotel rooms.

you all disagree with those too?

Yes. When I found out that Indiana had a hotel tax when reserving a room at a hostel there I thought it was one of the dumbest things I had heard of in a very long time.

Yes I disagree with both. We need to cut out all the little petty taxes which create mandates for ever more bureaucracy.
