Canada is well known for accepting large amounts of immigrants. Should the United States become more like them?

Yes, we need to get to #OneBillionAmericans to compete in the 21st century. We should also align our tax code and social safety net to provide more support for couples who want to have children but are concerned about the financial aspect of it.

Well Canada generally benefits heavily from having the US as their southern neighbor so I'm not sure becoming more like Canada is an option. We've got Mexico.

It actually seems hard to get into Canada. Even for a visit you have to have a legitimate reason to be there. People used to go back and forth across and to Canada with ease.

The only country that can conceivably compete with the United States on any level - China - won’t even have a billion people by the end of this century. We’ll be fine.

This is false. It's hard to IMMIGRATE to Canada (unless you're Indian or Chinese), but it's very easy to visit Canada as an American.

American visitors have six-month visa-free access to Canada (and vice versa for Canadian visitors to America). Hundreds of thousands of people travel between the US and Canada with ease every day.

It's much easier for someone with certain skills to immigrate to Canada than to most other first world countries.

I think a mix of the points/qualifications system with a tough border control and deporting all illegals who comit any crime would be good.

The "become the Third World" fear is basically the basis of the GOP's electability nowadays, the democrats shouldn´t support policies that sustain that fear.
