Given the political, cultural, and lifestyle disconnect that exists between New York State, and New York City, would both entities be better served as being separate states from one another?

If the naming thing is an issue, just call New York City "New York" and rename New York state to "Albany."

I could write a short book about how many better names there are for the independent upstate than "Albany". They would include, but not be limited to: Hudson, Iroquois, Adirondack, Saratoga.

Also what would happen to Long Island? A third state, or part of New York? Because it can't be part of Hudson.

Long Island and Staten Island should join New Jersey to form bronz.

If I had the power too, I would gladly sell Staten Island to New Jersey, even at a bargain bin price. Problem is, Jersey wouldn't want them either.
