I would consider these to be the 25 most significant conflicts the United States of America has engaged in.

Various wars with individual Native American tribes didn't make the cut; neither did various interventions, or the American participation in the multinational coalition that put down the Boxer Rebellion.  In some cases I have wrapped various related minor wars with similar objectives together into one broader umbrella war.

Please vote in favor of the ones where you believe America was "the good guys", justified in entering the war based on our national interests and principles, or at least the war had a positive outcome.

More simply, if you were POTUS, would you have engaged militarily in the conflict?

The War of 1812 was cringe. Imagine invading Canada and losing.

The American Revolution was also cringe. Imagine invading Canada and losing.

I’m now supportive of the American war of independence. Wars I support historically have been the war against ISIL, WW2, the civil war, and the wars against pirates. What conflicts aren’t included here that I support is the Slave Squadron where we worked to defeat slavery in west Africa and liberation operations against the French in Mexico.

Of course Gmac would exclude such conflicts like the strike of 1877 and the post-independence rebellions.

I wanted to limit it to 25.  Which of my 25 would you remove to replace with the conflict you mentioned?

Nicaragua was probably the first cut candidate.  I picked it to be representative in general of our Banana Republic interventions and occupations.

I haven't voted on some of the Caribbean and Latin American interventions because I don't know enough about them. Voted for Revolution, Barbary pirates, 1812, Civil War, both world wars, Korea, Cold War, Gulf War and Somalia, Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and against ISIS.

The Barbary Wars and the War of 1812 were as necessary as the American Revolution. The former was essentially a series of police actions against Mediterranean pirates who saw American ships as easy pickings. The latter was a necessary fight if the US wanted a future in which it could hope for something more than existence as a British client state. The Quasi-War fits into this set of conflicts as well.

can someone explain not voting for the Revolution?  Did you not read the premise?  Is it pedantic reasons?  "there was no POTUS during the Rev War, so I can't vote for that"  That's an obviously lame reason, but it's the only excuse I can come up with for not voting for the Rev War that makes any sense.  Even if you yourself are like English or something it doesn't make any sense, the OP specifies that "you are POTUS, would you have engaged in the military action" not "do you want the US to participate in these wars", which is a very different question innit?

A number of blue avatars are refraining from this poll because they don't agree with the qualifier on #20.

I kinda get why some folks don't classify the American Revolution within the same moral set as, say, World War II, or supporting the Union cause during the Civil War.

They aren't really in the same ballpark.

Revolution, the Union, WW2, and Yugoslavia (though Clinton botched it like he did most things). I'd also say the US role in Syria was, is, and has always been more a war against Assad than ISIS.
