This bill provides money from our large surplus to fund border security and limits harmful foreign contraband.

There wasn't much debate time before this amendment vote. But, to answer your question, yes I have numerous issues with this proposal which I plan to bring up at the conclusion of this vote.

Most likely it'll fail anyway. But we don't need a needless dildo ban attached to a border bill of this sort regardless. The former is social over-regulation but the latter is a waste of taxpayer dollars at best.

Now that the amendment vote has ended, putting aside the total absurdity of Sections 2 and 3 of this bill, I'd be very interested in hearing from the sponsor on the supposed urgency of a $20 billion land acquisition project for a border wall with Mexico. I hope that the answer will speak to why the sponsor neglected to consult with, or even ask for an update from, the GM Team on the matter of border crossings.

Ooh, GMs mentioned!

For the record this appears to be the very last time our illustrious predecessors touched on the subject of illegal immigration and border crossings at all, in reference to the recently-passed Come Out of the Shadows Act.

Quote
Southwest border apprehensions spiked in the first two quarters of 2017 due to an influx of new migrants as the bill was being debated and immediately following its passage. The number of apprehensions has dropped as new migrants choose to avoid Atlasia due to increasing proportion of employers utilizing verification systems.

Quote

Over time, visa overstays have proven less likely to apply for the conditional nonimmigrant visa, and therefore the proportion of visa overstays relative to the total undocumented population has grown to 52% (from 41% in 2013).

Seeing as we have not yet received a response from the sponsor, and we have confirmation from Cao that the last update regarding immigration levels was five years ago, I believe there is no reason to continue debate on this legislation.

Motion to table.
