Is McCarthy wishing Bowman will come by and pull the fire alarm now?

12 pages!? Where the hell are we now?

Motion to table failed 208-218. We're nearing the end of an hour of debate on actually removing McCarthy, which is looking much, much, much more likely than not.

So they have him circling the drain.
Absolutely. This is a death march.

The fact is republicans don’t really have a house majority. It’s effectively a minority government situation where they are reliant on the “supply and confidence” of the tea party to have a house majority .

The main issue is there are no Snap House elections here

The contrast between this and the last congress couldn't be sharper. Nancy Pelosi had exactly the same number of seats and was pretty effective in getting stuff done. The Democrats should run on that in 2024 and make the case for retaking the majority in a second Biden term.
AOC and Omar where only 2, not enough to cause trouble.

So when is the vote going to start? The speaker pro tem said twelve minutes at some point, but that's like half an hour ago?

Dude I woulda loved it if he'd held up his phone and the Domino's app or Instagram was open.

The Democrats have no reason to save McCarthy. He made a mistake by going on TV and badmouthing them after they helped him keep the government open.

The nonsensical impeachment inquiry has not helped matters either.

Ironic that it only exists as a desperate play to save McCarthy.

There is no appeasing Gaetz and his followers. They just want chaos. They have no interest in governing. They never have and never will.

Stephanik says people should vote for McCarthy because “he goes to members’ weddings”. Odd to build the end of her speech around.

Given who is in this Congress, what does that even mean?

Lol, why on earth would they be responsible?

Dems have no reason to save McCarthy and help the GOP avoid this embarassment. McCarthy bent over backwards to appease Gaetz by running with the false impeachment inquiry, but it did nothing to save his job.

He hasn't asked the Democrats to save him. The ball is in his court.

Just another aside, maybe some German posters could give me a hand on this, is what a CDU-AFD coalition would look like?

It was a good idea from McCarthy's point, "Impeachment for Bills", but he couldn't form it or sell it properly.

Don't lay this at the Democrats doorstep. This is all the fault of the GOP who let the extremist wing run things.

I find it deeply ironic how many members are giving standing ovations to these speeches when they've sat idly by and watched the Gaetz caucus fester because they're afraid of even slightly upsetting the crazies.

Honestly I think Jeffries should've perhaps offered to have the Democrats vote Present as long as McCarthy met some demands (like dropping impeachment completely and additional Ukraine aid for a certain period), but they're under no obligation to bail him out if he doesn't give them anything in return.

The responsibility is on McCarthy for making a deal with Gaetz and the Qanon caucus to begin the legislative term.

But McCarthy said he wasn't open to comprising anything with Democrats.
