I've said it before but it bears repeating: The Republican Party is entirely unfit to govern at the federal level.

Bring on an Alaska Senate-style coalition with the 10% of elected House Republicans who are actually sane and keep the lights on for the next year.

Obligatory "I'm still a Republican" disclaimer, but all of this hot air by Good kinda rings hollow when (1) the Republicans are in the majority and (2) when a vast majority of the GOP caucus doesn't want to be here right now.

Mind if I ask why? Genuine question; I don't think we've ever discussed this before.

He's taking McCarthy to the slaughterhouse over Biden's victory in the Debt Ceiling negotiations.

It was strike one for McCarthy back then, but given his small majority I foresaw that there wouldn't be a strike three.

You can't do "business as usual" with a majority that small.

Also something I just noticed, how often do we see members of a party speaking on the opposite side of the chamber? (As both Good and Gaetz are speaking on the Democratic side).

It's truly astonishing how the Republican Party has been able to survive into the 21st century. They've been a chaotic and ungovernable mess since the 80s.

What , this is untrue . The GOP of 1980-2008 was a machine and got a lot done regardless of your opinion of what they did .

It's amazing that their most competent speaker in my lifetime in terms of passing laws is the pedophile guy.

Anti-Establishment parties are always in a state of turbulance.

Democrats where considered dead in the late 80's.

Idk, maybe during the ‘80s when they never held a trifecta, but the Gingrich majority basically cannibalized itself as soon as it took power. Democrats have had one person as Speaker since the turn of the millennium, the Republicans have had 4.

I've just tuned in... this is hilarious. Republican dysfunction of full display. Jeffries made the right decision to bail out McCarthy without significant concessions.

Moreso Progressives are willing to be team players and have an agenda that actually involves getting stuff done.

At least Gaetz is semi-competent public speaker.  Biggs is just a rambling mess -- I'm so lost on what point he's trying to make.

Eh, the 104th and 105th congress got quite a lot done despite their being a democratic president. Newt was removed because :

- The Republicans became the first party since the era of Good Feelings to lose House seats during a 6th year itch

- Newt was caught having an affair at the same time the Republicans were trying to impeach Clinton.

Then the GOP house post newt was remarkable stable . Tom DeLay pretty much kept the entire caucus in line and this was doubly true during the Bush years when the Republicans pretty much bent the knee to the Bush WH and went along with his entire agenda . Things really started to change post Katrina when W lost his popularity and during the DeLay scandal which deprived the GOP of an extremely effective whip .
